Heading over to Philly for mania XL and planning to hit axxess (or whatever it’s called), Wrestlecon, the major pod show (I know that’s controversial in some of these parts) and I wondered if people here had been before and wanted to share any advice or their experiences?
I don’t even own any paint pens, any advice on best ones to buy? Ones that are good for figures and belts as well as 8x10s? Anyone been to Wrestlecon before or a Major Pod live event? (I’ve no idea what VIP even gets me)
Anyone from Philly with any advice on best Walmarts and Targets to hit or any other figure stores? Any food recommendations for welcome too 👌🏻

I visited Philly this past december
There is a wrestling collectibles store called Suplex Vintage Wrestling that has any and all pro wrestling merchandise, figs, shirts, anything you can think of. Very nice store.
Gotta get a cheese steak from ginos too!
They do have a Wal-Mart and a target in downtown Philly but it had the same stuff I'm sure ur local Wal-Mart has, nothing new.
For nostalgic purposes you may wanna go and drive by the old ecw arena, now called the 2300 arena...if ur a big ecw fan
If ur making a couple day trip out of it or have extra time you can visit the rocky steps and rocky statue at the museum of art. These were the steps sly ran up in the rocky movie, and at the top of the steps you get a beautiful view of the Philly skyline.

You know I had a dream once that WWE bought the old ECW arena and the surrounding area and turned it into a physical Hall of Fame building. I doubt it would go over well IRL, but I still remember that dream.

I’m hoping to go see the Busted Open show on the Saturday with Mark Henry & Bubba Ray, they’re hosting it at the old ECW arena so that should be cool. I’m doing Thursday-Tuesday. Any ideas on the best paint pens anyone? Or any tips for making the most of Wrestlecon?

Any ideas on the best paint pens anyone? Or any tips for making the most of Wrestlecon? I use Sharpie brand oil-based medium-point paint pens for everything. They dry quickly and won't scratch off, unlike some other brands. You can find assorted 5-packs at Target or Staples or any color you want on Amazon/eBay. I think Staples also has white 2-packs. For reference: Sharpie paint pensAlso (I guess this is more of a personal preference), don't get clear plastic figure boxes signed in a color that will blend in with the figure attire! I always roll my eyes when I see someone get an all-yellow Hulk signed in yellow or an all-pink Bret in pink. You're better off picking an accent color like red for Hulk or white for Bret. Also don't get clear plastic surfaces signed in silver or gold. I have yet to see an example of this that looks good. But they look great on dark backgrounds, including belt straps.

Don’t waste your time with Pat’s or Gino’s. So many better options that aren’t tourist driven by namesake.
2300 Arena looks nothing like it once did. Corner entrance is gone, fully renovated inside. The logo mural near the bathrooms is cool for a backdrop for pictures, as would the street signs of Swanson and Ritner, but besides that… most of the nostalgia is gone.
Suplex is cool to look at things, but all extremely overpriced “collector shop” items. Unless you have lots of spare time, wouldn’t bother.
Targets/Walmarts are just like everywhere else. Very hit and miss. Northeast seems to get most things later than the west coast. If it’s in your travels, it’s worth popping in to see what’s on the shelves.

Also, for Wrestlecon, I would recommend preordering for anyone you know you're going to see. There should be links on the Wrestlecon site for anyone offering preorders. If you're going multiple days, make a plan for which people you are going to see which days. I am going on Friday and Saturday, and since Flair, Sid, and the Rougeau brothers are Saturday-only, I am going to plan to devote that day to them and see as many of the Friday/Saturday people on my list (Jake, Honky, Duggan, Sarge, DiBiase, etc.) as possible on Friday.

Awesome, thanks for the info - this brand good for belt straps and carded figures too? I don’t think he’s been announced yet but I’m hoping Bret will be at Wrestlecon or somewhere, I have some original Hitman shades I’d like him to sign, was thinking blue paint pen to pop - again, assume these sharpies would be good on those as they’re plastic.

Appreciate it - I guessed the ECW arena would be unrecognisable but I’ve been a big fan of the busted open shows since the Rock has returned so looking forward to that either way. Everyone seems to suggest different places for the ‘best’ cheesesteak have been told about Pat’s and Delassandros? Reading Market and Johns pork? Walmart wise I’m just hoping to pick up the Bret & Piper MNW UEs seeing as we won’t be getting them in the U.K.

Yes, they also work for carded figures and belts. I would use gold on belt straps. Bret usually signs his sunglasses in regular black sharpie or pink paint pen, both of which I think look good (the pink actually pops because it's much brighter than the background), but these paint pens would work for those too if you wanted to do a different color.

You are better off driving across to new jersey. I have had some success there at targets. Walmarts are the same though, only first come first serve wins out. Walmarts just dont stock much anymore. I too was curious as well about this as i too intend on going to both events for some signatures on my figures. So i found this article and it appears deco paint pens are best for window packages or for plastic in general. powerssportsmemorabilia.com/blogs/news/what-are-the-best-pens-for-autographs-watch-before-you-get-your-next-item-signed

Depending on how much time you have. Binghamton ny isn’t far (maybe and hour or 2?)from there. Sound go round is an amazing local comic, entertainment, gaming and figure store. They have a walmart and target that are fairly current and freshly stocked when i visit.

Since you're gonna be at the ECW Arena, gotta eat at John's Roast Pork right around the corner. To me it's the best cheesesteak spot in the city

It's still hotter than holy hell inside the 2300 during the summer, so that's one bit of nostalgia they're still hanging onto. But it's still pretty fun. I'm going to be there for the Stardom show that Thursday. Anyone have any info on signings for WWE World at WrestleMania? I saw they announced Charlotte for Saturday, but I haven't seen any other names listed.

Thursday: Cody Rhodes Friday: Seth Rollins Saturday: Charlotte Flair Sunday: CM Punk Monday: Bianca Belair WWE has been posting these somewhere, but I got them from the "MANIA CLUB" Facebook group, which has a very long WWE World discussion thread.

Not really figure related but seeing as we’re on a roll here…what’s the reality of the weather likely to be? Any locals or previous visitors who’ve been at the beginning of April?
