I think it’s fair to point out just how mindlessly many of us consume these figures. It’s something most aren’t even aware of, myself included, up until recently. Now that I’ve seen everything I have it actually makes me sick. Such a compulsive behaviour it becomes. I love the look of a neat and orderly collection. Looks great! It’s when you start having to pile figures on top of one another just to make room. That or stowaway the figures in boxes and containers. Certainly money that could be spent elsewhere. Experiences are worth much more to me now than a WWE figure that I’ll simply place on a shelf or hide away in a tomb. A lot of you guys need to give your heads a shake, man. It’s ridiculous to have as many figures as most of us do. I’ll never be one to get rid of everything, never have. The fomo and consumerism has really gotten out of control though. I was gifted my first wrestling figure at six years old. A TTL commissioner Foley action figure. I loved that thing, and it kickstarted a passion for pro wrestling and wrestling figures that will die with me whenever I do. So this isn’t some rant about “toys are bad and buy food instead”. It’s simply a revelation and realization that it’s just way too much of one thing. I love Ben and Jerry’s Iced Cream, and I could eat it everyday if I chose to. I would also crapmy colon out constantly and eventually drop like a fly. I love this hobby just as much as anyone, but it’s simply too much now.

Because they are becoming more and more sloppy/lazy as the months pass. Plenty of opportunity to change things on re-releases and they don't.....but while there's suckers out there that will buy them then why would they make changes. Only way to force change...affect what is going in Mattels pockets. Because buying toys makes people “suckers”. 🙄 Not the fact that maybe while it would be nice for a different mold to be made and if they do, great… but if they don’t, these figures are still worth collecting. Those that moan and still buy them are suckers, I'd love a Million Dollar Man, but not while he's a midget.

Any figures you don’t want, feel free to donate them to me. Kthnx No need to attempt to be some sort of “woke” martyr. We collect figures because we like to. Not due to blind consumerism or whatever. We like toys. Plain and simple.

I think I'm down to only considering the Austin. In theory, the Hall was the one I wanted most but that vest ruins the entire figure for me. Maybe I'll get it with the hope that threadhead or someone like that will make a good version of the vest. I just can't see myself paying eBay prices for these when I'm this disappointed already. The Undertaker I could live with if the goatee wasn't bad but holy shit...

You're not wrong with some overall societal points, but the idea that everyone here just blindly consumes is a massive over-simplification, and frankly is often simply thrown at as "You bought a figure I feel is below par, so clearly you're a blind consumer!" as opposed to the much more sensical observation. that different people have different "lines" in what they'll "accept" from a toy.

If this was the only choice and they knew full well the scale wouldn’t work, they should have scrapped Hall and either moved him to later in the series where they could invest the money into making it properly or scrapped it all together and do a UE down the line. He’s going to look ridiculous next to the Nash that’s coming in series 2. It’s a store exclusive they aren’t investing in new molds. It was always going to be figures using existing parts with new paint decos and maybe a new head. The cost was always going to be the bare minimum. I didn’t know store exclusives always just meant no investment and only re-used molds, can I ask what the rationale is for that? Either way, my point stands, they shouldn’t have done the figure in full knowledge they couldn’t or wouldn’t execute it properly.

They aren’t going to give a lone big box retailer new molds for one off’s. They are going to give them previous figures/parts in a new deco. And save the new molds for all of mass retail to get their money out of the molds. Why wouldn’t they? Walmart asked for an exclusive to generate more traffic to their store/website. They (the retailer) don’t care what they look like, because it’s such an irrelevant item to them and they know most people will buy other items once in the store. So Mattel basic gives them repaints to keep their production cost down and profit up.

Under that rationalization though the 1990 Undertaker & Gobbledy Gooker Ultimate 2 pack that is exclusive to Amazon would not exist. Gooker is most definitely a new mold for a 1 off purpose while Undertaker is also new one albiet his can now be used for future ultimate edition Takers going forward. Store exclusives most definitely have a working budget that can be used on new tooling if it is seen as necessary for a figure, key word there being "necessary". I'd be much more likely to take it as Mattel just not seeing the height as being that big of an issue to put money towards fixing it in this case.

Gooker they had the mold since 2010 or 2011 when they showed it at SDCC as a prop. They just weren’t planning on releasing it. It was a prop for the comic con along with the statue of Orton hitting the RKO on Punk and the Beth Phoenix doll with rooted hair. But people kept asking for the Gooker that they finally used the mold and released it. If it weren’t for that I doubt we would have gotten that 2-pack with Gooker.

See, to me that makes even more of a case that a store exclusive line would still have a new tooling budget of some sort if needed. In your example, they were willing to spend money on a brand new, 1 off tooling, for a Gooker to be used soley in a SDCC display with no plans of retail or way to recoup said tooling costs. Would they not be willing to do the same for a line going to retail, even limited retail, with the added advantage of customer purchases to offset those same costs? That just seems like bad business.

There’s no profit for Mattel when you or I buy a figure at mass retail. Mattel made their money when the retailer’s buyers put in their orders to Mattel. We aren’t Mattel’s customers the retailers are. As for Gooker it was the first year they had the license everything was new and those pieces were made to show what they could do as it would pay off in the long run. A store like Target or WalMart toys aren’t the store’s focus for sales. That’s why with every department reset they just put everything on clearance. They just want something on the pegs to get more customers in the store. So the retailer’s buyers just ask Mattel for exclusives and Mattel sells them repaints. Especially for this MNW set. Unlike the Target Legends line which has no end in sight the MNW line is a short term line. They (MNW) are basically an evergreen line so it’s a no frills line. These big chain retailers aren’t like RSC who actually work with Mattel for what they want.

It’s like the superbowl commercials or Christmas adverts a lot of time and cost etc will go into it because it’s their single biggest advert with most eyes on the product. Case in point when they did that amazing huge entrance way at SDCC

I think Mattel do a fantastic job but there are times they seriously drop the ball. MNW series 1 is one of those times. Not one of those figures from series 1 is must-have top tier. They keep giving Austin and Hall those crack head arms, they can’t decide what skin tone to give Hogan now that there are 3, and they reused that terrible Taker body mold. The only one I was seriously interested in was Hall and now I’m going to have to buy another figure with bigger arms to swap (so there’s more money right there) and completely repaint the vest (time lost there).

So these will hit stores in February? We were officially told that these were "on the new planogram in April" for Walmart. These will most likely start trickling out though sooner than that, most likely as part of the Wrestlemania displays. I would think since others have had these already that we will see these maybe trickling out in later February, then in displays in March, then on pegs as part of the planogram in April-ish.

I just wish everyone would quit calling Luger’s top a “puffy shirt.” It’s just a collarless dress shirt that everyone was wearing at the time. It’s not a puffy shirt.
