Neither. He surrenders it the night after Mania when he defeats Brock Lesnar for the Universal title after he earned his shot by winning the Rumble.
Brock beats Rollins at the RR for the strap.

So the World title, not Universal? Not fully against this though I think GUNTHER/Seth is the way to go for Mania. |

They should just retire the belt after his reign they have enough titles as is. No need for it or the US title, they should ditch them both

Giving up the belt would be such a waste of the time and resources spent building him to the spot he's currently in. Besides he's a heel and he's never going to be a top babyface so let somebody get the rub for beating him for it. Preferably a babyface. Cody wouldn't be a bad choice. Gable or Knight either.

What if Gunther decides that he is too good for the IC title now and it is beneath him? It can get it off of him without losing it and he can really play up the heel side of it as well.

Even if he was forced to I wouldn't be a fan tbh. Someone could benefit from massively from dethroning him. He called it "The most important championship in this sport" on Raw, would make no sense for him to then relinquish it. He's done such a fantastic job raising the prestige of the title, it would seem like an afterthought again if he decided he didn't want it anymore. Gunther vs Brock on the other hand, under any circumstance, is probably my biggest possible dream match in wrestling so yes please on that. |

Gunther vs LA Knight at WM40 for the belt would be amazing. I'd let Knight win and then let Gunther eventually win the World Title.

Maybe loses it to Bron at Rumble - then he wins the Rumble on the same night

Losing clean to Corbin and getting 45 seconds of promo time isn't going to help him get over. |
