If the Coliseum 2-packs aren't selling as much as they anticipated they should consider selling them as singles going forward.

It's pretty obvious that WWE is not Mattel's top priority these days. Nothing wrong with that either. We're lucky to even get decent figures for "wrasslin". But Barbie, Hot Wheels, and MOTU are all getting more budget than WWE is.

I can't be surprised when we haven't had new basics in retail in forever. It's a miracle they got Superstars and RA Elites/Ultimates out to retail finally, but those sell pretty quickly I feel like. You're getting a random draw of Basic 130-136 at retailers right now and most are still sitting there.
I don't really ever recall seeing the WM basics out at retail (except Big Lots), but I'm never really hunting for them by the time they hit pegs.

I’m gonna go ahead and start this conspiracy theory. SDCC Ali not selling out caused them to push back CC Piper/Steele and cancel WM40 basics. They have too much inventory at Mattel Creations to launch another set of UE two packs and they don’t want a basic Ali option preventing people from buying the UE. For a conspiracy pulled out from nothing, this is probably closer to the truth than “TKO has ruined everything”. I know when they announced this basic line I was like “uhhh, did I miss something? Have we even seen these? Also wow, you’re just going to do ref Ali for $10?” I won’t pretend that this hasn’t been a rough year for Mattel though. Two failed crowdfunding projects, pricey exclusive not selling as well as previous ones, cancelled figures lines, MOTU Origins all but dead at retail for over a year. The list goes on and on. Pretty sure Steve said they made more - and have sold more - of the Ali 2-pack than any previous SDCC exclusive. Just because it hasn't sold-out doesn't mean it wasn't successful.

Made more which meant they spent more to make them. They may have sold more, but how much of a bath have they taken on the remaining stock though? For the record, I just want to stress this again: I am not trying to “doom and gloom” here. But people act like 2023 has been a stellar year and it just hasn’t. And it’s not just this line.

As someone who purchased the Ali set largely for the novelty of having a referee Ali, I can't say I'm too unhappy about a Basic version of the figure being cancelled (for now).
An Ali Basic as a boxer in different colors would make more sense and probably sell more units.

I was just pointing out that the Ali set has actually sold very well/more than any other SDDC exclusive (when you said it hadn't sold as well)... That's all.

Marvel's kind of a holding pattern because the content's been getting delayed. I think people are being kinda ridiculous here when WWE has been getting more product every year. Like the idea that MOTU has a higher budget is ridiculous; there's just no way, based on volume alone.

I know we as wrestling fans live in a bubble, but there's no way on earth MOTU is higher in terms of demand or popularity, than WWE in the year of our lord 2023. The last relevant thing MOTU had was a failed Netflix series a couple of years ago and before that it was like a decade of nothing.

Masterverse seems like it flopped as a line, although the Origins line looks healthy. It's a solid niche line at a friendly price point that's always getting new product. I mean, they've got a Snake Mountain out now; you don't do a high-end playset for a line that's failing.
But even so, WWE is obviously a bigger property with much more product being released. Like, as a company they're moving merch numbers right now that are reportedly Attitude Era level or beyond that. I doubt anyone at Mattel is worried about the figures or has cause to.

I'm sure it's moving merch brother, I meant between MOTU and WWE, it's clear WWE is an established main eventer while MOTU is more like a fan favorite upper mid-carder.
