I was really wanting both but what the family wants is the most important thing in all this. I'm just gonna put it on a shelf,so now or next year at this time is fine with me. If the family needs time, this is the right and only decision

Selfishly I’m bummed as that Ultimate was one of my most wanted figures.
But if that’s what the family wants or if this ensures the family gets the proceeds for the figure that of course comes first. I hope we still get these down the line, which it sounds like will be the case.

is it Mattel doing this out of “respect” or is it that his contract ended when he passed, and they’ll have to do a Legends contract instead

To everyone questioning this....
You all know if they released these figures anytime soon there would be crying that Mattel is trying to profit off his memory. It's just too soon to be releasing new toys since he died so recently and suddenly. It would be bad optics on Mattel to rush them right out - and appear to be profiting off his death.
They're handling this perfectly, just giving a little bit of time to pass and then they will bring them out, with money going to the family and the loss isn't so fresh in people's minds.

I don’t think anyone would complain or assume they’re cashing in on his death considering these were put into production several months before his death & officially announced at SDCC a couple months ago. I mean they didn’t hit the breaks on Macho Man or Ultimate Warrior figs when they passed and no one cared. I personally couldn’t care less if these figs come out or not but I don’t think it’ll be a big deal if they release them as scheduled.

From what i heard the family will be profiting from any sales - so you would think now would be a good time to keep selling. For them. Also - im still feeling the loss of this guy. What a true legend he was.

Don't get me wrong, I would have had no issue with them keeping the schedule as it was originally planned.... But today's "cancel culture" everyone wants to jump all over any corporation or entity that acts in any way that they deem inappropriate, and rake said corporation/entity over the coals if they feel a certain way. It's a no-win situation these days - they're damned if they do, and they're damned if they don't..... I think Mattel playing it conservatively - giving some time for healing.... then bringing the figures out...... was likely the right move in 2023 society.

Funk died around the same time & has a figure coming out in one of the exact same lines as Bray but his fig didn’t get pulled. I think this is more of a contract issue disguised as them taking the high ground.

I really don't think "cancel culture" played a part. The more logical explanation is that Bray no longer has a contract that allows WWE and Mattel to release new merchandise (that isn't already available for sale) or the family requested that they hold off (which I think is less likely the reason). If you read between the lines, the statement says they are giving them space (aka WWE isn't going to push them signing deals while they are grieving). We also don't know anything about the estate. It could take months/years for that to be ironed out before the estate is allowed to sign new contracts. Not saying that will happen here, but I've seen it for people that have passed and made a lot less money than Bray. If Mattel could still legally release them, I believe they would (these figures were planned so it's not like when Dusty passed and people were bugging Mattel to release Dusty figures right away that weren't planned at the time). They've spent time/money and are going to have to spend more to remove them and make changes to production/shipment (probably will also mess up the budget since they spread that across the lineup). I really don't think they would cancel them unless it was a contract or estate issue. JMO

For whatever reason this is happening, be it legal estate/contract issues, giving the family their privacy, or for PR reasons, this was absolutely the right call. Also an expected one. When GH3 went up for preorder, I was shocked because I figured it would have been pulled immediately. Also still really side-eying how it was priced above every other figure posted that day, although the last time that I went back and looked before it was removed, the price had been dropped down to a more reasonable point, so it might have been an error rather than intentional. Doesn't matter now.
Point is that this was what needed to happen and I am looking forward to opportunities down the line to acquire these or any other bray figures which might be released in his memory. And I do appreciate Ringside/Mattel addressing this directly. So much is heard through back channels and dirt sheets these days, it's refreshing to see something presented with this level of transparency. Good form on this one.
This whole situation still sucks. Not the figure, I mean Bray. It's still hard to believe he's gone. Still hurts. Probably going to for a long time.

There is a response to this that I could make that would be 100% truthful but still in really bad taste for a thread about Bray Wyatt so all I'm gonna say is COVID sucks and I never got the figure and leave it at that.
