Are ECW figures going to sell that much more than toys of their current AEW talent that its worth a potential legal headache? Would a Sandman or a Masato Tanaka sell? Probably. Would it sell more than someone AEW feature on TV every other week? Debatable. Would they sell so much more that it's worth paying someone who isn't already under contract for a merchandising deal, AND cover any potential legal difficulties? Clearly not, or they'd be doing it.
Small companies probably get away with it because they're small. Tiny indy promotions use their favourite songs as entrance music without fear, but if a televised promotion did it the record labels will be coming in for their cut. Size can matter. Might also be choice. Chella don't have an existing deal with a constantly growing roster of talent they can pick and choose from. They need to get crafty.

If WWE didn’t want these smaller companies to make figs of WWE/WCW/ECW guys all it would take is a cease and desist letter and they would all be shut down, it’s either something we don’t know on Jazwares part or incompetence Very true, let's hope someone can ask the Jazwares team regarding this. They’ve already answered it we’re not getting WWE/WCW/ECW attires

They could do Double or Nothing 2021 Sting and you can put a Mattel head on it

Doesn't Sting own his likeness? He has basically wore that same crow attire since late 1998 till now. Just add longer hair and remove the goatee.

WCWThunderRosa The head might not fit and you'll also have to pick from two Mattel Sting heads which might be a little expensive. The only 1998 option we have is from the basic we got, which was decent. I don't love the hair piece on that figure though. A brand new headscan reflecting that time period would be ideal. Ministry of Darkness I'm sure he does. He wore that attire many different times in the past. That's why if there is some issue with IP they could use my idea as a loophole. They would have to create a new taller boot mold to match his look from that era though. Give us a Sting with a modern head and the retro Crow Sting heads on the side of the package. It wouldn't be so obvious and the average consumer wouldn't even know it's from his WCW days. With a pleather coat on top, we'd be golden imo. I remember Jeremy putting up a poll on Twitter a while back asking us which Sting looks we wanted. Why do it in the first place if we wouldn't be able to get them?

I think Sting might be a special case where he retains more ownership over his gimmick than a lot of other wrestlers, isn't he? I'm not sure what's achievable with him, though.
It would be cool to see more legends show up in this line, but people seem to be wanting this to be something other than an AEW line.

Agreed and Jazwares would be stupid not to make any retro Stings while he is under contract. Make it happen Jeremy.

The only one I thought was great was the wolfpac sting. But still not perfect. Hopefully jazwares can make early stings and nail it where mattel I think failed.

I like the defining moments Sting but I do agree Jazwares has the perfect opportunity to make the best Sting figure.

I decided to sell them a while ago. Now looking at the prices they go for i feel abit of regret selling them all.

I decided to sell them a while ago. Now looking at the prices they go for i feel abit of regret selling them all. The irony is that I thought the Wolfpac version was one of Mattel's worst attempts (besides the gorilla torso Surfer versions). The torso doesn't even fit the legs proportion wise and makes the head look like a bobble head. Then the head had missing painted details, inaccurate placement of nWo logo and no flesh on the forehead/lower face. I sold mine recently, but will not be selling my DM, or elite fixup. I really love the DM Crow Sting, one of my favorite Sting figures of all time regardless of some of the inaccuracies. Then again, I'm a little biased towards Sting because he's my favorite of all time. Can someone tweet Jeremiah and ask him about retro Crow Sting? I don't use Twitter.

Make it all surfers and I couldn't get my money out fast enough 5 pack surfer 5 pack crow variations GIVE ME EVERYTHING. My only gripes about AEW figures are that they look weird proportionally. The figures look like they're wearing diapers.

I’m shocked Sting wasn’t one of the first names announced for the Surpeme line. Give him two upper-torsos, one in his current t-shirt look, and one with his singlet look. Throw in a modern head and two heads with longer hair and it would sell like bananas.

With WWE holding the copyright to people looks from WWF, WWE, WCW, ECW etc and Jazwares obviously not being able to release figs of wrestlers from any events from those companies, is the Terry Funk Retirement show from 1997 that was featured on Beyond the Mat, the loophole Jazwares can use to get ECW guys made On that show it featured Taz, Chris Candido, Balls Mahoney, Sandman, Dreamer, Beulah McGillicutty, RVD, Sabu, Hakushi, Hayabusa, Masato Tanaka and Terry Funk Was this show considered an independent show that Jazwares can use to get figs made of these ECW guys and also could the Brian Pillman Memorial Show be something else they can use to get WWF, ECW and WCW guys made? Jazwares actually could get away with some of these. Chris Candido, Hayabusa, and Masato Tanaka specifically. If the attire was worn by the performer before they where under contract to WWE or ECW, they could use them legally. But, the performer, or their estate, would have to own the rights to their name and likeness. Jazwares would then have to make a deal with the talent or their estate because none of these people have AEW contracts. I think it comes down to it not being profitable enough for Jazwares to do. Terry Funk is under a WWE legends contract for action figures so they could absolutely not make him.
