I just don't even bother trying to hunt down the figures with the "1 of" stickers on the box . More fun to just enjoy what I can get, I guess. I snagged the Punk Exclusive right after seeing the pictures of it. The ice cream bar hand was too cool to pass up!

Damn, I thought Jazwares was going to show some stuff. At this rate, we'll never get a flashback Sting.

Quite surprised these guys were willing to be so underwhelming rather than go toe to toe with Mattel. Really thought they would come in firing.

Quite surprised these guys were willing to be so underwhelming rather than go toe to toe with Mattel. Really thought they would come in firing. They just showed a lot of content not that long ago, to be fair. But you'd think if you have the floor space at the biggest collector event of the year you'd have something up your sleeve beyond a figure that just seemed to rile up your collector base. This is a much, much bigger platform than a session inside a dingy looking hotel ballroom. I love the AEW line. But to some degree or another, there are only so many collecting dollars to go around. Mattel hit a grand slam for me, and it's looking like I'll be buying more Mattel figures in the next 6-9 months than I have in the past year and a half combined. And I think it was a big mistake for Jazwares to sit on their hands this weekend beyond the Punk figure.

I thought that too, but then I looked at my preorders from the week and AEW came out swinging with a new exclusive Punk and they dropped the preorder for the first Owen Hart in ages.

Just to play devil's advocate - yes. And look how much attention they're garnering. This board and thread have been pretty quiet since the Brody reveal. The Punk is the 4th they've shown. And I've been pretty surprised overall at how muted the response to Owen figures have been. I'm really interested to see RSC's top 10 next week. The AEW fan/buyer base is much smaller than WWE's obviously. But Mattel has been generating a ton of buzz. Jeremy tried to go back to the well on an outdated limited edition, convention only model and people have metaphorically walked right on by.

This is just my opinion but Jazzwares can’t go toe to toe with Mattel. They don’t have the star power to do so

I said this a few months ago, but I stand by it. I don't understand the "Limited to a number" approach. Mattel do great with their Chases and they're mostly readily available, why can't they do that with the AEW line? Exactly this! I collect WCW figures in the Mattel line. I'm honestly not too worried about finding an orange trunks Lex Luger in Legends 15 due to how Mattel does their chases. There's good odds I'll find one in stores, and if I don't, I'll probably pay at most $15-20 more on Ebay than a normal figure. With AEW, I've only ever seen one chase and that's because I got it sent to me by Ringside. There's people I like to try to buy every figure released of, and I had thought of doing that with Hangman, but the moment they announced a chase of him, I knew there was no reason in even trying. I’ve done the same,it was lots of guys and girls I planned on buying every figure of but then soon as those same people had a chase announced I started getting more selective on which ones I pick up. I know the 20 or 25 figures I haven’t bought hasn’t effected Jazwares at all but if to many collectors does the same thing we might start seeing more then just the handful of pegwarmers staying on the shelf for long periods of time.

It should not be surprising that mattel/wwe can pull from like 60 years and 5-6 different promotions' histories to make figures compared to jazwares/aew's 3 year history and an owen hart deal and whatever non-wwe owned likenesses of legends they can work with. I've already said that jazwares could have still had a better "big" exclusive offering but like, I don't see how they could go "toe-to-toe" with mattel.
Jazwares can only do the best with what is available and they flopped big time. That's what the discussion should be. Taking what would be a low-tier RSC exclusive and pulling a rarity stunt with it is absolutely embarrassing and all it has done is make people angry with the line and it's future. I don't know if it was a desperation move and something else didn't time up right so they just did this whatever brodie fig, but either way, a con-only exclusive is the bigger issue.
Maybe next year they'll will have something more to offer, Paul Wight has been talking about how Tony Khan got the rights to the Captain Insano character, the ROH purchase went through officially pretty recently, so I think ROH versions of wrestlers should be fair game now. They're stuck on the whole luminaries looks and are forced to pull from whatever WWE doesnt own, so that's another thing that isnt available.
Not sure if Jazwares needs to start holding onto announcements so they can come off better at SDCC or something, but I'm just saying that expecting them to go toe-to-toe with mattel probably isn't the right way to think about this.

This is just my opinion but Jazzwares can’t go toe to toe with Mattel. They don’t have the star power to do so This is accurate, but what they have is newness. Even this deep into the line, the waves regularly have not only line debuts, but often the first action figures that wrestlers have ever received. If they had held off that last big reveal dump for SDCC, they would've had something of a competitive showing.

This is just my opinion but Jazzwares can’t go toe to toe with Mattel. They don’t have the star power to do so Their roster is so much more stacked than WWE right now, all WWE’s star power is in Legends from 15+ years ago so that’s only the case for legends collectors

No one said anything about current roster Yeah the toys of the people on the roster, like wut? 🥴 They have a better roster, their toys are more desirable because of it. WWE relies on their legends to get most of their interest, that’s why there was 7 Hogans and 5 Rocks
