If the option to review results of completed shows is in there, I haven't been able to find it. I think a stream just ends and it goes away, like I don't see archives anywhere. Oh wow. That’s a shame. Be good to be able to re-watch or at least see sales figures even if you can’t rewatch I assume archiving the video would be suuuuuuuper expensive, and that's why they're not doing it. Some sellers have shows like every day.

From what I've heard online the sellers are the only ones to see past sells but I think they're trying to come up with programming where you can see past sells but its gonna take some time.
I think the Poppin Duo or Professor Josh(Funko You Tubers) can't remember for sure which one had the guys that runs it on a live and he was talking about all of this if anybody is interested.

DO you have to give any personal info when you sign up to watch? I think so, otherwise I'd be interested just to look and see....

Some sellers have shows like every day. True. But they’re all over the place at the minute. Franchise Kicks who does a lot of funko stuff, some wrestling crate unboxings etc has whatnot ads and sponsored sales Major pod advertise it all the time snd again fo the sponsored sales on there Pat nes punk advertises it on his podcast There’s just 3 examples where they are advertising on pretty big podcasts / YouTube shows which won’t be cheap and across different genres so I’m guessing they must have a decent amount with all the sponsorships they do Presumably they make their money by taking a % of the sale like eBay?

From talking to a buddy that has sold on there, it sounds like Whatnot just waives fees/gives the big name sellers "free shows" to get them on there selling and promoting the app. So Whatnot may not be really "paying" them anything out of pocket for promotion, if that makes sense? And yeah, I think Whatnot gets their cut of each sale. And most sellers have to pay a fee to host a show.

Ah gotcha 👍 People complain about ebay fees, it’d be interesting to know how much they take + charging for ‘shows’…not sure I like that? eBay doesn’t charge to sell (yeah occasionally depending on your criteria there may be listing fees but not always). Whenever you listen to the ads you hear “it’s like Instagram live meets ebay” and how simple it is etc - you don’t have to pay to go ‘live’ on Instagram. The more I hear the more I’m not a fan of the app before even looking at it. It’s a shame because we need a real alternative to eBay

Whatnot definitely has benefits and drawbacks. I reckon live engagement is a benefit, although bidders can get drawn into bidding wars if FOMO kicks in.
But also, with everything being live, if you're not there live you miss out. If there's one item you want to bid on, you may have to wait for 80 others to sell first. Some sellers just talk and talk and talk. And some shows run 3-4 hours.
There's also not much time to ask questions, get more pictures of condition, etc.
For me, Whatnot is more entertaining than it is a way to really collect or shop. It's sort of like watching a live Twitch stream if you've got an entertaining host.

I had never heard of Whatnot until the Major Pod starting promoting it, but I get the feeling it's more of a live stream like Twitch and a lot of people are there for the extra entertainment from the hosts they like. Like "there's nothing on, I'll just tune into this for an hour" without actually being interested in the items being sold. I get it being a good way to sell, just like going to an auction house. But if you don't have the time or opportunity to ask questions and see condition/backstory then it would be a big gamble. That's where it loses me.

Did anyone watch this? What did the Undertaker and Tzzz Bend-em go for? They said on the podcast last week that the Taker didn't sell.

That's where it loses me. 95% of the auctions I've been involved in does a good job with questions, showing condition etc,so I think it just comes down to what you feel comfortable with. And yes,its 75% entertainment 25% wanting to buy stuff most of the time. Its worth a chance for anybody that hasn't been involved and curious, I've had a great time on there plenty of times but ngl it can get toxic pretty quick.

Maybe toxic is a strong word but just like you see with any fans of sudden things/people,you get some that gets carried away and makes a a$$ out of theirselves when others don't agree with it but you see that everywhere on social media.

I read one of Lloyd Kaufman’s books and met him a few years later. Nice, weird dude. Felt extra strange after having just watched a movie with him naked in it.
