Japanese toy company who did figures in the early 80s - maybe before awa remcos? I believe they did hogans rookie figure and other Japanese wrestlers and usa wrestlers who spent time in Japan like Harley race, funks, andre, backlund, hansen etc Come with a card too I believe Definitely before Remco, LJN and even before Appleworks who released Hulk Hogan as Thunderlips as well as his wrestling ring for the Rocky III toyline. Appleworks? Don't you mean Phoenix Toys?

I could never understand the playability aspects of Popy, the light, hollow plastic coupled with the way they were moulded into that superhero pose... But I get the attraction for other collectors, especially for display. I chose OSFTM, simply because nobody else did and I wanted to show my appreciation for the company. From the LJN style WCW figures,of which Vader remains one of my favourite figures, to the CMLL line that brought us the likes of Ultimo Dragon and Vampiro, right up to the ECW line that I adored. Vibrating WCW figures not withstanding. Well LJN, OSFTM rubber figures or Galoob had less playability... I never understood why LJN chose that style for their WWF figures, why not their Advanced Dungeons & Dragons style? No, very true. For me personally, though, Galoob's smaller size coupled with the various types of poses meant that the playability was pretty good for me. OSFTM were a bit more difficult but the Vader, in particular, was made better by this for me, as he was like a tank when pitted against smaller guys, especially BCA figures. I think it had more to do with the size/weight and pose rather than articulation for me, personally. Popy didn't catch on with me, play-wise, due to those factors, but that's just me. I was never a big LJN guy, I only ever had Steamboat. It was definitely a strange choice, but they do have their charm, I guess. OSFTM definitely went with that style simply because of LJN.

Did Phoenix Toys turn into Appleworks at some point? Was Thunderlips a post-83 release? I remember there were catalog pics for a ring and Ivan Drago, which I guess was 85 so maybe that was Appleworks by then.

I think this was the main attraction for hasbros While some are far from perfect (the rude, 123 kid, flair sculpt) playability was much better than any figures before They were built like tanks too (apart from the pull back punch mechanism - that’s the only one my kids have broke) The ring is trademarked 89 I believe and I had it from a kid, my sons (8 and 6 now) have both played with it, stood in it, sat in it etc since they were about 2 and my daughter who’s now 2 turns it upside down and sits in it, jumps in it and generally terrorises it and apart from replacement elastic for ropes a couple of times no repair work needed.

Best or favorite? They are very different. I believe Mattel has the best figures, but Jazwares is my favorite right now.

In 1986 Phoenix Toys released a stuffed Rocky doll for Rocky IV, so they were still around.

Jakks is what I grew up with the most and honestly will always be the best out there. Between the different lines that they put out, none of which were as silly as some of the stuff that Mattel has created, and the different sets made there is so much out there to make an awesome collection. Not to mention Jakks gave us so many figures of guys that will NEVER be made now for one reason or another, as well as their scale rings actually being to correct scale to a real ring. Jakks can never possibly be dethroned.

I voted for Jakks….the era of the Classic Superstars is unmatched, the vast roster of legends in this series is unsurpassed….I have great memories of figure hunting at Toys R Us, Kay Bee Toys & K-Mart among others during that time, it was fun …..Mattel does amazing with their figures but they’ll never touch Jakks with the amount of legends they produce, there’s just far too much red tape legal mumbo jumbo along with we have to do this, that & the other before we can make a simple toy these days….Jakks wasn’t ever like that & it shows
