I am not going to make this political or a economic debate?
With all the talks of prices going up; based on your lifestyle/profession how bad is the rise in prices impacting you and your family? Lately; I been actually forced to change back to my prior job in Law Enforcement as Correction Officer over working for the Sheriffs Office as Animal Services Deputy. Due to the overtime at the jail I actually make much more then anyone on the Sheriffs Office where I live. Unless; they in turn are say a Detective and get incentive pay or something of that nature. I can't deny being very unhappy with the situation and not seeing it sustainable for my mental health. However; due to my girlfriend taking Human Resources job with her company which will be great for her advacement in the company; she does loose pay since shes almost pure salary. I can't deny I feel the price increase very drastically and damn it hurts.
And lately that's been all the talk; so I been wanting to see if it's been as bad as what others are saying?

They've noticeably gone up here in New Zealand, mainly fuel and groceries. Theres also housing too but thats been an ongoing issue here for years now. Supermarkets have blamed the increases on Covid, although thats just a convenient excuse at this point. Going through the 12 items or less aisle will almost cost me what a week's worth would cost say three years ago. Thats not buying anything outlandish either. Normally I wouldn't really look at a price when buying something, I'd just chuck it in the trolley. Those days are slowly on their way out. Fuel costs are outrageous now though, and its an international thing too. I know political chat is (stupidly) against the rules here but I'll quickly say that it doesn't help that our wit Prime Minister is telling people that the cost of fuel will continue to rise, which to me gives them an excuse to increase it, while getting ready to further tax diesel vehicles in the next month in order to push a green agenda. Diesel has more than doubled in the last couple of years. I couldn't believe that it hit $2 a litre last month and its already gone up to $2.30, and rising. Diesel being cheaper than petrol was my main reason for choosing a truck over a car but now diesel has matched the price of petrol from around 2018. Back then it would cost around $85 to fill my truck up and that would get me around 8-900km, nowadays its easily around $130 to fill it. But what can you do though? People gotta eat and travel. I think most people are past their breaking point too.

It definitely hurts. I can absorb the blow for awhile, which is especially rough driving a car that takes only premium at 40-80 cents more a galon, but at 1 hr in car each day, it really cuts into savings per month. I do not buy much other than food, so with that increase too, I don't get to put nearly as much back as I should, which is scary. At some point, I may have to take a lower paying job closer to home to actually bring in more money, as odd as that thought is.

considering it was almost 1$ for gas a year and a half ago...
My stepdaughter goes to her dad's every weekend and it's about an hour's drive each way. Gas is now almost 4$ and we are having to now seriously have talks about when and how we can meet to make it easier on both sides to save money. If its gets up to 5$ she may have to go every other week.
This week alone it went from $3.29 to $3.90

Honestly, I haven’t really noticed. I work at a pizza place and obviously our prices have gone up but I eat for free and the other places I usually eat have stayed the same. I know gas has gone up but I’ve never paid attention to gas prices as I just fill up and go. My bills have stayed the same. Price of figures might have gone up but I’m used to secondary markets so doesn’t mean much to me. I don’t follow the news and only really use Instagram to post photos about places I travel to, so life is pretty much just the same for me. I make really good money which helps.

You know it's bad when you're chippy is putting prices up for the first time in years. Seriously though, it's the price of food that I've noticed the most. Everything is getting dearer to the point we're seriously limiting what we actually buy. I don't drive, but my Papa has been complaining about the cost that petrol has went up to, again to the point that he's using the car less and less. During Covids early days, the prices of collectables was through the roof (figures. cards etc.), I was selling a full collection a few months after I moved and I was getting like £40-50 for the most common figures which has since took an absolute nose dive. The world is just getting more and more expensive to live in and enjoy things without being skint as hell. It sucks!

Gas prices are nearly $5/gallon here in Chicago. Thankfully, we aren’t struggling because we’ve always been good with our money, but it’s definitely an inconvenience with no end is sight.

I already work 6 days a week with a 40 mile round-trip commute. Looks like I'll be needing a part time job just to pay for gas.

I just paid $4.19 a gallon for gas in a small town in KY.
Only got $10 so not even 2.5 gallons.
This is getting absolutely ridiculous.

It's fore sure concerning since by every stretch we've hit 2008 levels of inflation. It's going to be rough year or two. Hopefully god willing we can shake off the fog of this decade in two years; with covid and the current world events I won't comment on. But it seems like it'll be little hard getting out the woodworks.
It's really been tough on my girlfriend and I as I mentioned before. I get really frustrated as a first responder; I don't think any of us expected to be rich out of this work. But I don't think per my profession I should EVER have to worry about money. My girlfriend's HR job is good for her; she's been working in the field for her company (New Mexican/Texa/Colorado Pizza chain called Dions). She got her degree; and was promoted to a shift manager last year. Which she made great money; but it stressed her to her core. She's been with the company 5 1/2 years. And has worked her ass off since she was 17 years old with the company. And I have seen her move her way up the company since I been with her for almost 4 years. Her schedule and job is way more fun and stress free; she gets to go to hiring fairs; reach out to high school kids; etc. It's more of a investment for her. Because; her superiors are in the $80-100,000 a year range. And she's gotten this far in the company at 23 years old. But she lost that pay. And I support her; I can't do public service. My job does allow me to say no to people sometimes. Which is a liberty I do like. But;
But that loss of pay f'n hurts. I commute a hour away to work. I took a job with the Sheriffs Office and left Corrections last December. I became Animal Service Deputy. So I investigated animal abuse; did warrants in relation to hoarding/cruelty; then the less glamourous work of picking up the mangled bodies off highways. I took huge pay cut I could of handled if we were not in such a economic turmoil. But; that quickly caught up with me. I was going to wait it out and become regular Deputy since they made more; but I had high hopes in trying to bring some justice to animal abusers. And wanted to learn the Sheriffs Office very clearly before I hopped onto the main beat. But; that money I could not survive off with her paycut. Or I would foresure be very nickle and dime. And you got to live your life. I don't like running the question of my pants ripped at work; is it rent or do I buy new uniform pants at work. I'd rather afford both lol. And luckily the last Jail I was at is the highest paying department in my state. those lol. So I went back to the jail; which I can't say I am happy about. Hopefully I can just sit out this mess; or find a promotion in the jail as investigator. I was burnt out when I had left. So my girlfriend will owe me when she gets promoted in HR to a big shot lol. Or I can hopefully find new job in Law Enforcement that is equal in pay.
But, I get nailed on gas. Foods a sob too. Were moving into apartment; which I had strong reservations against due to the state of the world. She found us a decent deal. Emphasis decent. But I would of rather of waited; but she jumped on it. And I decided to roll it out; we signed a one year lease. But our plans were to buy a house. But the market is ruthless right now. So I really regret the apartment lease.

I just hope the dollar doesn’t crash. I’m also not too fond of where we’re headed with all this digital currency/virtual reality stuff. So far, it’s a bit absurd. I go to a local supermarket that does not sell organic produce and basil is now $2.50 and it’s not even fresh. Times like these makes me wish I had my own home and could produce my own food.

Obviously it's a strain on the wallet, but nothing too serious yet.

It's not even inflation. It's straight up price gouging.

I just bought 2 gallons of Lactaid milk, a big bottle of coffee creamer, 8 Portugese rolls, a blueberry pie & some apple turnovers.
Cost me $41.23.

Inflation is going out of control. My job bumped up pay awhile back which helped a lot, but watching all the extra money come out of the bank account is rough. I am even feeling it with shipping costs, which I was utilizing buying online to save on gas. woof.
