Thinking about hasbros I find it strange dibiase got 3.
Off the top of my head the only others with 3 in the main line was hogan, warrior and macho (actually counting different figures - not counting macho king / man separate or slight variances like pink/purple bret etc)
I understand having in entrance and in ring, and around mania 4 dibiase was obviously a main eventer but not to the extent of a hogan, warrior or macho.
Also Skinner had a very short run and while he had a couple of high profile matches (v Owen at mania, bret at This Tuesday in Texas) I imagine his unique tooling would’ve made him a very high cost to return ratio since we’re talking kids playing and not the era of collectors getting every single figure
There’s some interesting choices in the line

Series 5 (the Skinner wave) and series 6 both hit the "gimmick" heels pretty hard: Skinner, Warlord, IRS, Mountie in 5, and Papa Shango, Repo Man, Berzerker in 6. Definitely some interesting choices, although I think they did a good job making most guys who were around in 1992-93.
They made everyone who appeared on the WM8 main card except the Beverly Bros, and everyone from WM9 except Bob Backlund. Pretty thorough return for the period where many toy lines skipped lots of characters.

Wow -- I didn't realize WN8 and WM9 were that complete!

I didn’t realise these manias were so fully covered - makes me think I need to get to work on some customs of the Beverlys & a WN9 Backlund! When you look back, while those gimmick heels were probably the toys I played with least as a kid, they are really good additions & look pretty toyetic. But I’ve always wondered why the went with Duggan’s body for the Berzerker when it was originally designed with a Texas Tornado body. I imagine it’s to do with cost, but can’t imagine it would’ve been much more expensive. 🤷🏻♂️ I think the Tornado body would probably have been much better.

Some of the guys who snuck in later were defiant lucky Star power shrunk. To have skinner yet no Haku or Dino bravo for example.
Two sets of bushwhackers was a funny one too. Like give me almost any other team instead.

Like give me almost any other team instead. Bushwackers having two releases each I always find a bit odd, considering the tag teams of that era. They did Anvil and Bret seperate, could we not have had a Hart Foundation? I know they were broke up as a team but it still feels like a huge gap not doing them as a tag team. Haku to go with Andre should have happened, and if anyone got more than one release it should have been Earthquake or Jake the Snake. They had so many attire choices with those two. To only get one of each is disappointing looking back.

The key ingredient here is how much of a state of flux the WWE roster was in from late 91 through 93. Hogan was in and out before leaving for good, Warrior was gone, back, gone, etc. which I think led to a couple of things. First off, comparatively lower card gimmicks got figures. Secondly, a few wrestlers who were solidly around got more releases than their spot on the card likely merited (Bushwhackers). Dibiase is an interesting one. He was main event/upper mid-card/tag team champion for pretty much the entirety of his run. Plus, since his first figure was a mold that really couldn't be repurposed, so it made sense that it got the green repaint. The trunks figure is a little more vexing, but in context it makes sense that he was a guy that at the time wasn't going anywhere and Hasbro could reuse the trunks Hogan body for him.

Series 2 Dibiase was pretty obsolete; the green attire was from 1989. It would've been better had we gotten Bad News Brown, Haku or Dino Bravo in series 2. Another Roberts would've been nice, but only with the suplex action (e.g. what Mr. Perfect had).
Skinner is actually one of my favorite Hasbros! I think it's great Hasbro released lower to mid-card guys like Virgil, Repo-Man, Koko or Skinner.

It still kills me we didn’t get Bravo, Haku and Bad News in series 2. Like mentioned , one of them should of replaced the Dibiase and honestly I would of bumped Snuka as well. He was really low on the card by 89/90. Thankfully 2/3 are being released as Retros with Zombie and Chella.
By the time series 3 rolled around it was too late for a lot of guys from the 89/90 roster, which is probably my favorite of all time . They could of done 3 series just from that era alone

The sculpt is fantastic, I'm just surprised they spent so much on him, I assume he is all unique tooling and not used again? Others had the stomp mechanism but the leg moulding is different - warrior and Gonzales? Virgil is another interesting one, he didn’t wear shorts often and was more familiar for the long tights

Crush also got 3, with each of his key gimmicks getting a figure.

Evil crush was a repaint, i’m talking 3 different sculpts / mechanisms etc. Green m$m wasn’t a straight repaint of the black But yeah crush did technically have 3 but evil crush was very lazy, down to using kona crush on the card design

Come to think of it: it's Skinner and Virgil from their King of the Ring 1991 match.

Yeah, I remember seeing the drawings of Berzerker in the Texas Tornado mold. I wonder if the change to Tatanka had anything to do with it. He was originally going to be a jumper in his WM8 gear but was changed after his wrestling gear changed as well. I wonder if they gave Tatanka the Texas Tornado mold because Tatanka also wore tassels on his boots and Berzerker did not. Some of the guys who snuck in later were defiant lucky Star power shrunk. To have skinner yet no Haku or Dino bravo for example. Two sets of bushwhackers was a funny one too. Like give me almost any other team instead. It's also strange that the Bushwackers, and the Rhythm and Blues too, were slated for the tag team series with the Rockers and Demolition (Crush and Smash). Especially since the Hart Foundation hadn't gotten one, and they were tag team champions at the time. Though, it was rumored that the Hart Foundation was going to be in the 2nd tag team series wave with the Nasty Boys and LOD (can't remember if there was a fourth team in the wave). But, by the time that series 4 was released the Hart Foundation had already broken up. And, yes, Jake should have gotten another release. A heel Jake to go in Series 5 would have been great. I would have been okay if it was just rerelease of the same mold with just an update paint job. A king cobra would have been a nice accessory. It still kills me we didn’t get Bravo, Haku and Bad News in series 2. Like mentioned, one of them should of replaced the Dibiase and honestly, I would of bumped Snuka as well. They could of done 3 series just from that era alone Yeah, Haku, Bravo and Bad News would have been great. I wonder if Bravo was considered for Series 3. It was around the time he was in the program with Hogan/Quake/Tugboat. And all three of those were slated for that wave. Tugboat was removed because when Series 3 came out Tugboat was no longer, and the Natural Disasters were. Virgil is another interesting one, he didn’t wear shorts often and was more familiar for the long tights I imagine the reason Virgil was released in the trunks (and I'm glad he was as I never liked the long tights candy striper look) must have been because when they were designing the Virgil figure, he was mainly wearing the boxer trunks. He wore them for most of 1991 and at times in 1992. Also, I always liked the Virgil Hasbro mold, I wish they would have used that one more. I especially wish they would have released the HBK in that mold, the one they showed in the WWF magazine.

I LOVED Skinner and some of the other villains like IRS. Used them every single time I played.
Also remember that figures like Skinner are incredibly toyetic.

The 1990 Hasbro, I think catalog, has pictures of the 12 guys from Series 1-the prototypes but also has drawings of them with their actions. The action version of Dibiase is him doing the stomp feature so I think the green suit was first slated for series 1 but since he had been wearing the black for so long I think they scrapped the green suit and made the black suit and then just released green suit in series 2. A Dibiase would be a better seller than some of the guys mentioned, though they may have been cooler looking.
The Bushwhackers in 1994 does not make a lot of sense. First, they were poor sellers in the tag set but also their outfits were tan on the figures while they normally wore light grey or black tops. I personally think maybe someone else was slated, perhaps Beverly Brothers (since they did the photo of them in late 1991) and singles Beverly's wouldn't make sense in the 1993 series. Even though there's always so much coming out about Hasbro WWF, there's still so much we will never know.
