I love slashers, good and bad, and Thanksgiving falls somewhere in between for me. More good than bad, for sure. The best parts of the movie are the kills, without question. There are enough to get you through and make you feel like you get your money’s worth. Because there are so many characters presented, you’re never really sure where they’re going to come from next. The same could be said of the “Whodunit?” plot line - you may have your suspicions, but you won’t really know who did it until late in the story.
Very cool use of practical effects - blood and guts, and all of that - and the staging of certain sequences do offer a fair bit of tension. Jump scares are not overdone for a movie of this nature. I couldn’t really relate to any of the characters, so in that way it acts as a typical slasher comprised mostly of disposable bodies. Casting felt like a modern Scream sequel, but without the star power. The setting and theme around Thanksgiving was used well.
I must say that I’m probably in the minority as far as folks who weren’t overly impressed with the Black Friday scene. It straddles the line between comedy and drama and doesn’t really do either justice. Comes off more like schlocky, made-for-SyFy fare than I would expect of a theatrical release. It wasn’t the tone setter that I’d hoped it would be. For the most part, the characters come across as one-dimensional. The big reveal at the end falls a bit flat, too. Not so much because of the character, but the final chase feels rushed.
It’s good for a surface level popcorn movie, or especially if you like gory slashers. Has similarities to Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, My Bloody Valentine, and Final Destination (kills), as well as some obvious nods to classics like Halloween. I paid a discounted price to see it, and I’ll more than likely pick it up when it comes out on home video.

It reminded me oh so much of the insanity surrounding all of it and people being ing greedy over crapthey really don't need and just being bungholes to each other which often escalated to violence. The opening just turned that aspect to 11 and I loved it. I admit it, I used to go out to stores after Thanksgiving dinner to see what kind of deals I could get (mostly on DVD, blurays, etc.) and have witnessed first hand people being outright nasty to each other over saving $100 bucks on a goddamn TV.

Yeah, I prefer to avoid big crowds like that if at all possible. There’s nothing I want badly enough that I would subject myself to it. As far as the scene goes, I think a second viewing might help. It just didn’t all the way land for me. There wasn’t enough emotional weight to it, which I think was needed for it to be the catalyst for events that took place later in the movie. I was hoping it would give me reasons to want to care about the characters right from the jump, but because they’re all indistinguishable by that point and there’s so much going on around them, the concern I would have had for them got lost in all of the chaos and comedy.

I hope it's better than the last one. Plus Santa Art is creepy as hell!

Finally caught the Last Voyage Of The Demeter and enjoyed it. One or two minor complaints but a fun and gory time.

Here’s my up to date horror collection. All of the Myers masks are signed by the actors that wore them, except the Ends mask is signed by Corey’s actor because that’s funny to me. Ghostface mask signed by Billy’s actor. Couple signed Jason masks. Robert Englund signed Freddy glove. Halloween figure signed by Tom Aktins. Been loving the hobby.

Neve is back as Sidney in Scream 7 but at this point I’m so burnt out on Scream as a franchise that I’m just acknowledging the original and avoiding all sequels from here on out.

Anyone catch Late Night with the Devil?? So dope. As of right now I’m hoping to see it Saturday. I’ve avoided everything when it comes to trailers so I’m going in pretty blind.
