Couldn’t be more blatant that the design team are pushing stuff they themselves personally want too. RA era is criminally underrepresented in this line and they’re making all this stuff for a period people hated I agree. No offense to anyone out there that likes new gen stuff, but figures from the Monday Night Wars would out sell them. We still haven’t gotten a WCW ponytail Lex Luger, proper WCW Bret Hart, jeans DDP, Billy Kidman (although he’s not under a contract). One of the reasons why these lines keep dying is because of the selection of characters. No idea who wants a Ultimate Edition Tatanka imo. Then what ultimate do you want? You say the lines die because the selection of characters. When Mattel makes their 467th Warrior, we hear whining from everybody about repaints, but when they make somebody who has like 2 figures out, we see nothing but whining. The thing with running a business is, you can’t win for losing. And at this point it doesn’t matter what Mattel does, because somebody is gonna whine about it. Everybody keeps bringing up this guy should Be made over this guy, but that guy obviously isn’t under a contract or he would likely be made, I mean you or the next guy probably won’t buy a Tatanka, but I will, and I’m sure there’s a lot of others who will also.

Nitro era Luger and Flair are big gaps (and no chance of getting a Flair right now) as well as never getting that Cruiserweight Jericho a lot of people asked for forever.

It wasn't one of my 1st 50 choices but, if they make one and it turns out great, then I'll buy it. I'm sure that the Monday Night Wars era figures would sell well but you would probably hear people complain about those releases (why can't they make this guy or why did they make another one of him so soon, etc.)

It’s not in anybody’s top 50. The issue people have isn’t Tatanka getting an ultimate, it’s Tatanka getting an ultimate when there’s other things that could be done first

Fwiw, if we’re looking ahead at potential New Gen’s for the Ultimates line, I’d take a Yokozuna and Hakushi pairing
1993 Jannetty had a good look too

I think you under estimate the power that era really has in merch.

I dunno the Monday night wars and RA eras were popular but the attires were certainly much less toyetic. A new gen mid carder like Tatanka will pop off the retail shelf way more than an AE midcarder like Marc Mero would. I’d have to see data on RA/MNW figs outselling New Gen as frankly these new Gen ultimates so far haven’t had trouble selling and The creations crowdfund was a massive success.

I think as Ultimates are doing really well, I wouldn’t be surprised if every legend signed gets one eventually now that there is a dedicated legend ultimates line.
I agree with many on here that the main line should be kept as top tier talent. Before, the new gen arena I probably would have passed on a Tatanka but now that we’ve got Diesel and Doink, I’d definitely pick him up. Especially if they do that headdress.

The era isn’t the issue for me, it’s the lack of new characters. Understand there might not be much that can be done about it, but I’d take new characters from golden era, new gen or attitude era. Wcw and ecw too.

I'd love to finally get an UE Mick Foley in really any form at this point, just so I can stop thinking about it and complete my collection. Seems like a golden opportunity for a first time in the line with the next Mattel Creations if they do Hell in a Cell. I love you. And perhaps an accurate Undertaker…

And perhaps an accurate Undertaker… Ultimate Undertaker is heartbreakingly disappointing. And yet I still ordered it 🤦♂️ I love you. I did as well unfortunately. I dont have high hopes given the track record with Taker we’d see another anytime soon. Ive seen this board ask for both 98/Mania 14 Taker and ABA 2000 Taker for probably about a combined 15 years now. And they botched both. If I dont buy this one I dont see us getting another, and then when push comes to shove I could have the option later to pay 100+ for a figure thats pretty garbage and suck that much more as a collector.

I dunno maybe the ratings and pop culture visibility lmao, how is this even a question New Gen had more color sure but in no world does it outsell Attitude or even Ruthless stuff

I think you under estimate the power that era really has in merch. Just a general basis, the Monday Night Wars era (1997-1999) was a more popular era than the New Generation Era of the WWF (1993-1996). I’ll take an all pink Bret ultimate thanks Me too. Survivor Series 1995 would be my top choice but, WM8 or WM9 would be great too. Fwiw, if we’re looking ahead at potential New Gen’s for the Ultimates line, I’d take a Yokozuna and Hakushi pairing 1993 Jannetty had a good look too I loved Jannetty's New Gen look. The black with all the colors really popped. Definitely would be thrilled to get that look. A 1993 Jannetty would be great, I liked the look when he beat HBK on Raw for the IC title. Throw in the white-strap IC title too. Doesn't have to be an ultimate edition figure, could be just a regular elite. I also wouldn't mind his attire from late 1995 and Survivor Series 95. Very colorful, that would make a great UE figure.
