Honestly, it felt much shorter, mainly due to the years going by so quickly. But when they want to, they can have someone out quickly. AJ took less than a year (debut at the end of January, figure came Dec. of that year) which was quick. If Cody has a successful run and is immediately popular like AJ (which seems to be the case, he’s already a top merch seller reportedly) then we should see one by early next year if I had to guess. oh yeah I forgot AJ was less than a year (to get to RSC) Cody I feel we’ll have by the end of the year early next year(Q1) you think he’ll get the ultimate treatment with his mania gear? I sure hope so, if any of the current guys have a look for Ultimates, it’s Cody. His gear just pops and the jackets he wears may be too detailed for the elite line. Really hope we get a few Ultimates because he has a lot of good attires. I just hope for whatever they do, they somehow make versions of him without that awful tattoo.

Ah, I see. I can kinda understand with Strongbow, but that RVD situation was definitely blown out of proportion I understood the rvd situation more than strongbow...there's no problem with yoko or razor figures, and I'm sure there's more...it's wrestling, they play characters lol Still hate that they canceled strongbow...I wish they would figure out a way to get him out to people.. The thing about Strongbow was that they thought they could even make him now.
Yokozuna is ehhh, a Pacific Islander being passed off as Japanese probably isn't the worst thing ever. But they would never make Tensai now.
Razor, ehhh, again, not the worst thing in the world. There are white people in Cuba. But I'm telling you now we will never see an El Generico figure from any company outside of the PWTees one.
And if anyone at Mattel HQ even sniffed in the direction of the Bad News Brown Piper figure, they'd probably be fired.
So why in the hecking heck they even put Strongbow up as a potential figure is a mystery to me.
This isn't 2008. It's certainly not 1998. And we are way WAY past 1988. Times have changed, society has changed and whether you like it or not, it's just how things are. You can't make 'problematic' figures anymore. It's just how it is. So we best all be getting used to it. Personally, I'm wondering what will happen if they ever try to make a Tony D'Angelo figure because I can see that one going over so so well. /sarcasm

I will paint match it and get rid of it. It's so dang ugly I hate it.

It does seem a bit strange that with Strongbow and the cancelled RVD, they were so far along with the figures in the first place, before any problems arise... surely there would be people in marketing (or wherever) that should tell or advise them not to make these figures in the first place?

It just looks out of place. I personally feel like it doesn’t suit his style.

I'm guessing its almost a guarantee now Cody will be the first to have a Ultimate and Supreme (as long as that doesn't get cancelled) They gonna look really nice together.

I think that is what gets people more upset, that the figure made it all the way to production, and some even made it to people, then all of a sudden it gets discontinued. And there was never an explanation given as to why it was discontinued, which leaves everything up to speculation. How did it make it all the way to production? It's not like everyone didn't know that he wasn't actually Native American for some time now. Did it get pulled because people were offended and made complaints to Mattel? How many people complained? Or did someone at Mattel think that it might offend someone/groups of people and they decided to pull the plug on the figure without ever receiving any complaints? Or were the buyers (Target) not wanting to purchase the figures because they feared there would be complaints? Lot of questions.

The Fiend has to be up there as far as quick turnarounds, right?

Yeah when Strongbow was first leaked my very first instinct was that the leak was fake because there’s no way they’re making that figure in 2022. It really was surprising to find out it was true. How it got fully produced without anyone realizing that the cultural appropriation of Native Americans is a hot button issue is astounding.

And between the facts that some figures somehow made it to the public, the "big name collectors" managed to get the figure, and the continued radio silence on it is such a huge slap in the face, it's making me consider walking away from a hobby I've been into for over 20 years.

It’s literally just wasted money to make a figure, have it ready to be shipped to retail, then cancel it and let them sit God knows where and rot. Unless they melt the plastic down and reuse it, but there’s still all the production costs and everything. They already act like the budget is so limited, we don’t need it to be affected by the design team making bad decisions and wasting money. As PC as the US is now, it’s crazy that this stuff makes it this far THEN they decide “Wait, maybe we shouldn’t release this.” and cancel it.

Yeah, the fact that it made it all the way to production, and they still scrapped it, seems odd. To me, that is what I like about the open-market, put the figure out there, if people like/want it, they will buy it. If people don't like it/don't want it, they won't and don't have to buy it.

Perhaps if they didn't put Strongbow over as "the greatest Native American ever to lace up a pair of boots" on the back of the card...

What if they repackage it as Joe Scarpa and hide the headdress and tomahawk in the box and make no mention of his character in the copy and sell it on Mattel Creations? Could they get by with doing it that way? If so, would anyone want it? It was already a niche figure to begin with.

I wasn't interested in Strongbow but it's just a shame they were worried about the three snowflakes on Twitter who were making a big deal out of this because clearly WWE and the staff at Mattel were fine with it.
