Just recently noticed I hit the 13-year anniversary of earning my driver’s license. When did you earn yours? Did you have any trouble? I actually failed my written test twice and my driving test once, haha. Practice makes perfect.

It’s been over 15 years since I got mine. It was easy for me and I’ve always been a pretty good driver. I’m actually studying to get my CDL right now and will be going to truck driving school next month.

Interesting story...
I was 24 years old. I had bought my car not even having a license yet, I only had my permit. A friend from work was letting me practice in his car on the way home from work and in my car during the weekend until I felt ready to take the driving test. It was time and my friend went with me in my car. I got there and they would not allow me to use my car because it still had the dealer plates. We had to go back and use his car. I thought no problem, and as luck had it, the instructor was another friend's father who was a state trooper. When you first get ready, they ask you to turn on the lights, wipers, etc. Well his car was much different than mine and I had never even used the wipers or lights on his car and I did not know where anything was. I knew in mine but not his and stupid me never even thought of asking. Eventually I found them but man I think I should have failed the test just on that but since it was my friend's father his was ok with it because the driving part was a breeze for me. I know if it was not him I would have easily failed because of that.

Timely. I just sat at the DMV for close to two hours today to get my checks notes fourth renewal, which means I'm officially hitting my 20th year of licensed driving this fall. I started driver's ed on September 11, 2001 and I got my license the first day I was eligible that November. Passed the written and the road test on my first crack at it.

My sympathies to anyone who has to wait at the DMV for any significant period of time. My DMV made some major changes about seven or eight years ago so as to push things along more rapidly, and it still takes forever; you can imagine how bad it was in 2007 and 2008.

1988. I took the driver's education class in high school. I failed the written test 7 times. 7 TIMES. I eventually had to go to the grange hall a few towns over to take the test. After my last failed attempt (by missing 1 question), the instructor (who was probably tired of seeing me there for the 4th time) drew a quick diagram on a piece of scrap paper. He said "You're on a 4 lane highway. If you want to make a left turn, what do you do?" I answered correctly. He says "Congratulations. You passed." He made it easier to understand. Guess I just needed a visual along with the question. If the rest of high school was like that, I would have done much better. Passed my driver's test on the first try. Haven't had an accident, either.

a few days after i turned 17, so a long time ago lol.
but no i didn't have any trouble with the test. since i was under 18, i was required to have a temp license for 6 months + mandatory driver's ed training, so i was more than prepared. the written exam was super easy and i scored perfectly on my driving exam. i just had to complete a maneuverability test by pulling forward between some cones and reversing backwards without hitting any of the cones. after that part of the exam, i just had to drive the guy around for about 5 minutes while doing all the right things (using turn signals, making full stops at stop signs, stopping + listening at railroad tracks, etc.). it was very, very easy.

I had a permit when I was 22. I moved into an apartment complex that charged $250 a month or $400 for two cars. My ex and I both stopped driving for awhile…in my case, over 10 years. After I get an eye exam and deal with my astigmatism, I plan to look into getting my license. Driving in Chicago is just terrible.

Ha, yeah, the driving test here was a breeze as well. I can't believe how many people blew it on their first few tries. They literally go out with you in your own car, basically doing residential area driving and following the basic rules of the road, then they bring you back to the DMV and have you back into a parking spot. Me and my 1992 Ford Tempo killed it.

Hah well if I could have afforded a horse and buggy I would have opted for that until I could afford to drive but I could not have afforded either until then. I didn't have it so easy way back in 1901

I failed it a few times tbh. I used to have really bad anxiety driving, especially when other people were in the car. I also am terrible with directions. I’ll gps places that are 10 miles away.

This October hopefully! I wish I did it when I was a teenager in hindsight, but with moving to a big city for University I never felt the need to drive because I had all I could possibly want in easy walking distance. Since moving back to my old hometown though, I absolutely regret never getting it.
It's been a b*tch trying to learn with Covid making things so difficult. I passed the theory test in November 2020 and the earliest practical test I could get was 11 months after that. I'm determined to pass though, I hate having to rely on trains every day to get to and from work.

At the appropriate age. State has the graduated license process, so took written portion to get permit (missed three Q's, more than enough to pass first try). Then went through Driver's Ed class 2nd semester of sophomore year to get practical certification. Glad I did that: area around county's Driver's License building has terrible roads. Busy a** highway, one-way streets, tricky stoplights, plenty of foot traffic and curbside parking, ick.
As is the norm in my life for a typically momentous or joyful occasion, the process was absolutely miserable. But I do remember walking into class after obtaining my permit, thinking how it would improve my chances with the ladies lmao.

1994 ….I was 19 & had just graduated high school three months prior …..I failed the written test once but passed the driving part the first time because ironically enough when we got there that day my dad knew the fella giving me the test so he let dad ride along with us in the backseat because it was raining….the guy giving me the test barely paid any attention to my driving because they were talking the entire time …..easiest test I’ve ever passed …. LoL
