Sad news Sad to hear. I got to meet him a few years back, maybe a year or two before Covid. (for anyone from the CT/MA area, he was at the Big E one day, unannounced.) I'm there with my parents and we're walking through one of the buildings and I see this one table set up in the distance, no sign or anything, but I see people getting pictures taken. I think it's Backlund, but I blow it off at first, but then as we got closer I realize it was him. So we keep going, and after we stop for some food, while my mom is still eating, my dad and I double back so I could get a picture with him. He couldn't have been a nicer guy. He's play up the Mr. Backlund character in the picture with you, the guy in front wanted him to put him in the Chicken Wing, and he did it. But then he'd switch right off into normal mode. As he was signing this poster he had at the table, my dad mentioned how when I was younger we used to see him wrestle (the Mr. Backlund run) and he asked where we saw the shows, where we were from. Came off like he was down to earth, and actually cared about the fans he met. |
