For me unfortunately, yes. It probably has to do with my age and where I’m at in life atm. I believe to an extent I’m outgrowing the hobby, but it’s also the lack of characters that I want. I also don’t have a lot of free time anymore. I’m currently cherry picking the line for guys who I like (Reigns, Hardy, Rollins and Mysterio mid 90s WCW and WWF guys). Most of the guys on the roster don’t interest me and most of my favorite wrestlers are gone. Another reason is just thinking of time and it’s nostalgic factor. It does bring happiness, but it also makes me sad knowing that the past is gone. The likes of KB Toys, Toysrus and my childhood were more than a decade ago.

I wouldn't say the thrill has gone, but we're in a pandemic with no end in sight. It's hard to maintain that thrill right now.
Secondly, Mattel and retail partners in general have done a terrible job of getting the new figures to the masses. They are TOO hard to find especially during a pandemic and lockdowns when I can't really go out galavanting for figures.

Man I couldn't have said it better myself. I have twelve targets within reasonable driving distance. In the last three weeks or so I have visited six of them often a few times a week and called others. In one occasion I got a back in stock email and called right away. They said they see they see they received it but couldn't locate the box. They ended up selling that night and I never saw it. Twelve targets. Someone like me actively trying to purchase one toy over three weeks and no luck? Thats not right. I cant set up a cot at a target until the inventory arrives and someone stocks the shelf at a random time. I cant keep calling and asking employees. Either these aren't made in high enough quantity for demand or they should be available to purchase preorder or on rsc. Steamboat fan takeover also being sketchy to find with no good explanation or announcement from mattel regarding amazon. Walmart canceling and mismanaging preorders for decade of domination and motwu. It all sucks and it makes collecting a nightmare. Not fun. I have a full time job and a family and I cant stalk stores for these elusive figures. Somethings gotta give or it will lose a ton of true blue collectors. I'm with you on all fronts. Steamboat is a good example, too. I know it's new and at least not exclusive to Target, but it has 'nightmare fig' written all over it. I work and have a family, too, so I'm in the same boat. I go to Target on my lunch break or early Saturday morning, and every trip (15 or 20 the last few weeks) was wasted. It makes me feel foolish even saying it. I swear I'm not obsessed. haha
I really agree with this and stc13 -- it makes us feel stupid to keep going there and the shelves are empty. And to think of all the better uses we could be having with our time. At some point, if you keep getting no results and something makes you unhappy, you're going to stop.
I think sales will stay up on a lot, because scalpers will buy, but I really think people like us will be chased away. I went from checking stores 10 times a week -- to never. I only go to stores when I need something else like groceries. Every other time I have an urge to go, I remind myself that in the last 15-20 trips, I've seen maybe 2-3 figures worth seeing...

I have not lost the thrill of collecting, although I am not thrilled about the money I’m spending lately thanks to the AEW line.
The thrill of hunting, now that is gone for me right now. The combination of pandemic/not going looking often, distribution/no stock, and ordering most things online is why. I did find a nearly full SSeries/DOD shipper a couple months ago, and don’t get me wrong it was fun and thrilling to see that and take home 5 or 6 figures, but one good day doesn’t take away how lackluster the rest of the year was. Hopefully there’s another good day in the near future when the WM shipper hits.

I still love going to the stores and checking out the toy section. Even more, I love finding toys I want in clearance. Or, going into a flea market and finding something considerably less than secondary market value.
Like some of the others here, I started with WWE. However, over time, I ventured into different brands and properties to help define my collection.
I suppose that the difference between collecting now and ten years ago is that I am overwhelmed with the sheer amount of figures I own. Deciding what to display and what to store is fun, but daunting as well.

Pre-order everything that isn't an exclusive on Ringside. I get all of the stuff before everyone else on my front steps and it always ends up around $30 apiece. I've never had to pay a crazy amount for a current figure thanks to RSC. $30 is still more than we’d pay at Walmart IF they would ever actually stock anything....all I ever see are empty pegs for months now & its very annoying I hear ya. That's why I absolutely factor gas money + time wasted + stress into all of that. For me the thrill of the hunt 100 percent died when TRU died. The peace of mind I've gotten for a few more lousy bucks has been sooooooo worth it.

Majors are practically killing it for me personally. Inflating the value of things otherwise worth Jack nothing...

It's not the figures, but the dang scalpers. Literally every retail toy line worth collecting these days is just impossible to find, unless you're at the door at opening, and everything is picked over in three minutes flat.
I just don't have the time or energy to have to compete with other grown men to race to the toy aisle on a random Tuesday.
So while the figures are as cool as they've ever been, I just don't care anymore.

the only thrill i get now is when i actually see something on the pegs in a store.
it used to be finding a jakks 1/500 or maybe getting to the store on a truck day and being able to pick through a boatload of new figures to get what i want....because stores would actually get a lot of stuff at one time
for me the thrill is just finding stuff. which happens rarely. so in the end its nothing like it used to be

I don’t think the thrill is gone but more my buying habits have changed. I’ve basically decided just to focus on new characters or first time in the line instead of that and repaints of guys I already have. Unless someone comes out with cool gear or really changes up their look, I’m going to avoid guys I already have. I think that’s why I’ve gravitated towards the AEW line, it’s basically all new people I don’t have.

I’d be happy to preorder everything. I shouldn’t have to work to buy someone’s product in my opinion.

Pretty much the whole main roster has been on the major brands or in NXT for years without a whole lot of changes in gear or even character. I love Adam Cole, but have zero need to buy his second or third Elites because they're almost identical to the first.

I know we're talking about figures, but what you said about the roster being consistent is the biggest problem I have with the current TV product. Go back 5 years, and the roster is basically the same. Yes, you have some lower card guys that have come and gone, by the main event scene is almost exactly the same as 5 years ago. Rollins, Reigns, Owens, Orton, Styles, Goldberg, Lesnar, the New Day. It's old and makes the show feel stale. Compare 1995 to 2000 or 2000 to 2005. The products completely changed in those 5 years. It's just stale.

I love Cole too and I feel the same way (passing on the Fan Takeover) but I will definitely get the eventual camo version to match up with all the other UE guys. Hopefully when that comes out, they will have a good head scan for him.

I just went to WalMart and found 10 B111 Bray Wyatts and not a single Elite. Plus, somehow, they had BP 67 which is hilarious.
Gotta tell you, it wasn't very thrilling.
