No major breaking news, but it is definitely worth a listen if you have half an hour. Just a few notes and takeaways:
-Magic was the basic designer for Mattel from S89-100. That's the first time I've heard specifically which sets he worked on, and I didn't realize his time at Mattel was so recent. -There's a lot of focus on having attires represent specific events, and using reference photos and packaging photos from those dates. So no "Magic Mashups" -Easily swappable heads and hands was by design, but the pop on torsos was a happy accident -Magic takes design inspiration from everything in the industry - McFarlane, NECA, etc to try to satisfy all sub-groups - kids, collectors, figure photography -Reading between the lines, it's pretty obvious that they are trying really hard to separate their line from Mattel - focusing budget on specific accessories rather than making sure everybody has "stuff," modern articulation, consistent packaging, event accurate attires
On a side note, I was a little surprised by how much shade was thrown at Mattel by the Major Bros. I know they have the whole make Bill sweat gimmick, but as somebody who doesn't pay much attention to their show, that was a little unexpected.

I’m a huge fan of event specific attire. Especially combined with the package displaying said attire with dates. Feels a little more special when you buy that figure.

-Another thing to add for MOC collectors, Magic said there was running change on Orange Cassidy to make the face covering less hideous
As for the Bros shading Mattel, it’s really not surprising to me. They were talking to the competition. And if you read between the lines of how they’ve been in the last year and a half, it’s apparent that they wanted to drag Mattel over the fire for a long time. Now that they don’t work for WWE they have no reason to play nice about every single thing.

Yeah, I really only tune in if there are reveals or news that they have, and even then I just fast forward to the relevant bits. I watched part of their interview with Steve and Rob earlier this week and it was the usual chummy softball questions, so it was just a little surprising. But their criticisms were all spot on imo, and issues that many of us have brought up countless times. Some of the jabs on constantly changing the packaging had me laughing.

You win the tag titles at Mania and can’t get a battle pack. That’s ed. But Chelsea Green gets a figure after 10 mins of tv time in two years.

I like The Major Bros a lot but them trying to sell the fact that you can’t find AEW figures in the store as a positive was eye-roll inducing.

Jeremy said series 1 was a test at retail. Meaning because Walmart, and now Target with series 2, can’t keep them in-stock, they’ll order a larger quantity now. Jazwares isn’t Hasbro or Mattel. They don’t get dedicated peg space by default. Even those two are fighting for shelf space because the toy aisles are so small. They have to earn it. Sellouts mean they did. I mean it sucks for consumers who want to get these figures in-hand but can’t find them. However, I kind of wish I didn’t own Series 1, and probably 2 when all is said and done, because they’ve put out better figures of everyone but Jericho already. So as they become more available at retail, you’re going to be getting the updated/better version of guys.

I never collected as a kid (and seeing these weird retro PoSs that people seem to obsessed with, I get why) so this was my entry into the hobby. I still have not seen a figure on a shelf and have paid a premium for every one. If I had known, I probably wouldn't have bothered to start, but I hope eventually I can go to a store and expect to see figures to browse and look for chases and what not. Not much to do at the moment. (still going fig hunting tomorrow )
