Didn’t listen but he mentioned something about unmatched allowing them to do legends, hasbro types and LJN types. There was already a listing for Darby allin and Cody LJN style for unmatched series 3. So a line that was supposed to get more talent out will end up being full of figures of people in different forms. Hasbro style is one thing but trying to do 2 other styles while maintaining your current roster and legends is a lot to balance.

Hasbro style is one thing but trying to do 2 other styles while maintaining your current roster and legends is a lot to balance. Definitely feels like they're biting off a lot. Especially when you factor in that they still haven't really build a parts library, so there's still a lot of new design work that has to happen for even basic parts. On the flip side, for ages Bill was the designer for Elites, basics, and 2-packs. So two lines plus UFC for Magic to design may not be as much as it looks to someone on the outside. And it's definitely a way to stretch value out of legends. If you sign someone like the R&R Express, you can probably expect one release and a repaint. With the retro styles, you can probably do 2 sets, LJN, and Hasbro styles, and have 8 figures that have strong collector demand and sell well.

He also mentioned legends in regards to Unmatched. Basically sounded like the plan is for Unrivaled to remain the core line, and Unmatched to be mostly those same type of figures, with the ability experiment with LJN style/retros/legends/throwbacks (wasn't totally clear if "throwbacks" was referring the already mentioned retros/LJns or throwback attires).

found this on fwoosh
a writeup
Jeremy hopped on the Major Wrestling Figure Podcast's Boozin' With the Toys last night and provided some information.
The Unmatched line is a second SKU and essentially serves as a cheat to get additional pegs at retail. The figures are exactly the same as Unrivaled though. I guess some people thought Unmatched would be like a basic line.
The Series 1 rereleases with corrected skin tones will require retooling because of the factory change. It doesn't make sense to me but it's what he said. He insists it's still going to happen but I remain skeptical.
Series 4 may already be shipping from the factory. He wasn't certain of this but said he thinks they're already on a boat.

I feel like they are doing a lot with this line that people didn’t ask for....like we literally just want figures on the shelves that’s it. No LJN, we just want them to work on getting product to us then we can go from there.

“The figures are exactly the same as Unrivaled.” Except the ones that aren’t because we might experiment with LJN or whatever the heck else.

Here in NZ our stores seem to operate on a system of ‘we dont order anything new until existing stock is gone’ one retailer got stuck with unsold Fabulous Moolah figures for 2 years - on clearance for 75% off. A few years later, a different retailer picked up the line (we had missed about 10 or so series by this point) and the same thing happened when they introduced the LJN figures

Thanks for all the info! I think it's smart to do LJN instead of Hasbro, because I do think Mattel is going to go back to the Hasbro retros...

Same -- esp. since AEW's fanbase is younger. But they seem to think there's demand...
