Y’all need to stop this. Have you ever considered that retail workers are people too and not your slaves? Perhaps they collect too? Jesus Christ. If I get a job at Target and I find an AEW chase stocking the shelves that crap is mine, and considering the bs workers put up with, they deserve more than rare toys. I think there’s a lot more collectors around in areas that people just aren’t aware of or think about. I’m sure sometimes they do buy and resell things but I’m sure it’s more regulars than workers

There is a Joe collector that posted on one of the Joe site and Instagram about a target manager who has been watching the Joe collectors line up and opens the door only to take the new Joes to the register and purchase them right in front of all the collectors Considering how rude and entitled some collectors are I’m not sure I blame them. |

OMG - I worked at KB Toys for 7 years (99-07) and have collected figures (Star Wars/Wrestling/McFarlane/other random) for 25 years now and in our area, Hot Wheels guys are the worst. Two specific guys actually.
STORY 1:
He was an every morning outside the door at Target, and regularly harassed the employees at Target and Walmart. But the worst story is not 100% substantiated, but based on all evidence is considered fact around here.
He has a son who works for Walmart and worked his way into being a supervisor at the Distribution Center. Supposedly, they have the ability to randomly check the boxes to ensure the contents are correct. Well, the story goes that he would inspect most of the Hot Wheels boxes, and would pull the Treasure Hunts, and swap them around. Specifically, he would load up one case with all Treasure Hunts and then ensure that case went to a specific store, where his father would go in, get that case from the toy manager, and buy the entire case, all 72 being Treasure Hunts. I am not a Hot Wheels guy, but besides this guy, there are 4 others that are big-time into this, and they all have stories of this one guy opening his trunk and seeing like 10 or 11 of the same Treasure Hunt, which seems way more than would have shown up here in our town (at the time 2 Walmarts, 2 K-Marts, Target, and KB - and I know none came from KB).
This guy was also a heavy smoker, and he passed away about 5 or 6 years ago, so I am not sure how the climate has changed since then, but he was the worst.
STORY 2
This involves a different HW guy, who also branched out into McFarlane Sports figures, which I did collect (NFL). We had our second Walmart open up in the area at the end of January 2005. This other collector was working for the Fire Department. About half a week before the store opened, he was on the group that was doing inspections for the fire department. Apparently, he went to the toy aisle, took the 'hot toys' (NFL variant and certain Star Wars figures) and 'hid' them in a different area, so when the store did open, and the toy people went to the aisle, the figures were gone. He went to a different aisle, dug those out of hiding, and bought the good toys. I was there when he somehow bought the good toys but didn't see where he got them from, but based on the common stories in the area, that sounds right. He did have a habit of using his Fire Badge to 'inspect' back room areas, and eventually lost his job at the fire department over it - and then he went to work at the same Walmart that opened in 2005.
Those are the two biggest stories in my area. Not 100% certain those are true, but based on my experiences with those two people - I believe it.

If I worked at Target or Walmart and had to deal with as many idiots as they probably do, I would totally use my discount to buy harder to find figures and sell for a profit. I worked Meijer for a year and got first dibs on any figures that came in. This was back in 2007 though so I mainly traded on here what I didn’t want.

I don't buy em all, but I do reduce them on the shelf. If there's 3 facings, I will put 1 in each slot.  you mother ers always ing the aisle up to buy your molded plastics. You guys are worse than kids! |

The argument is that the figures sometimes never even hit the shelves, which is unfair to the customers. Semantics really, as the employee could buy it on their break as long as it's on the shelf. But at least go that route and not directly from the truck to your locker. You're working for the customer, not yourself. |

In L.A., it's rare to find people who care about WWE let alone WWE action figures. So I think it's possible but unlikely.

Nothing you can do to stop that, just have to hope that not all stockers are collectors or resellers but can’t blame someone making minimum wage to see a “1 of 500” sticker and snag it...

I see it happen a lot with the super treasure hunts and popular castings with hot wheels a lot. An employee goes through the box before putting it on the shelf and pulls out the good ones or chases and either steals them or buys them before they even make it to the shelf. Or they put them aside for their friends (scalpers) to buy up...pisses me off You’ve seen an employee steal STH Hot Wheels? They will go through the cases and pull out all the supers and popular castings before putting the cases up on the shelf and either take them for themselves or put them aside for their friends, aka scalpers to come in and buy them and they will put them up on ebay or take them to flea markets and sell them for $10-$20 bucks a pop. |

This kinda stuff happens all the time with any toy line that has any chase pieces. How do you think these people at flea markets have all the good stuff marked up at crazy prices? It's an inside job. Either they are the employee working at the store and do the flea market thing on the weekends or they have a friend that works at the stores.

That is a well known thing about retail I’m sure they do, I’ve never actually seen it though because I’m sure it’s done behind the scenes/after hours. Statement 1: I hate all scalpers across the board. Let that statement be recorded.
Statement 2: I do not work in retail and, outside of 2 weeks in college, never have
Statement 3: The idea of retail workers nabbing figures before they get to the shelves rubs me seriously the wrong way
Statement 4: Were I a walmart employee, I have a pretty good hunch I would be exactly this sort of jerk. Not for resale, mind you, but I would take first pickings for my collection.
Final Statement: It happens. I wish it didn't and it sucks that it does, but I cannot in good faith condemn people for doing something that I, if put in that position, would likely do myself.

Does it probably happen at times? Yes.
Is it as common and widespread as people in the toy community postulate sometimes? No.
