My brother and I usually like to touch base with older wrestling games. Recently we have been getting into playing the older ECW games. I remember playing the Acclaim series as a child and always hated it because it seemed hard to play and the controls were clunky. As an adult replaying the games and better understanding the controls its actually kinda fun to play and relive that nostalgia.
Has anyone else been into playing the Acclaim games lately or has been a huge fan of them? War Zone, Attitude, ECW Hardcore Revolution, ECW Anarchy Rulz, etc.

I too have been playing the ECW games recently, only on the Dreamcast port. Gotta say the improved visuals and faster load times make it worth the hassle of getting my ass beat in 3 on 1 matches in career mode. That being said, while I have a soft spot for Warzone and Attitude, I enjoy Anarchy Rulz the most due to the extra match types and easier controls.
Fun fact: the PS1 was the only console to have all 4 games ported to it, with Warzone coming out before the Dreamcast's launch and Anarchy Rulz not being ported to the N64 due to the console's lifespan ending around that time.
P.S. Anyone know how to pick alternate outfits on the Dreamcast version? I know on the PS1 port you have to hold back buttons, but with Dreamcast, I've only found out how to pick attire 4 by holding down the C button.

YOU LISTEN HERE BROTHERRRRRRRRR!
Although I must agree, Anarchy Rulz revitalized the Acclaim series with the new style matches and made the overall game play more fun for me I feel the likes of Attitude and War Zone had more of the characters relatable and nostalgic to myself since I'm more into WWE over ECW.
All that being said, gameplaywise I definitely am all about Anarchy Rulz.
Complaint on the other hand I always hated how the games all shared the same character creation vault for the most part.

I agree on the creation suite. I remember making tons of characters on my old memory card for attitude but now it's just hard to make a character I'm happy with. To think on newer games I use CAWs more than the in-game cast where as on these games, I rarely use CAWs if at all. Also, your brother talk is taking me back to when I made a Hulk Hogan CAW with Kurgan's voice on Attitude.

I know the Acclaim games has a reputation of them not seen as good wrestling games, but man I think they are underappreciated. I never grew up with those games but I think they are fun once you learned the controls. My favorite from the Acclaim games is ECW Anarchy Rulz for to reasons the first is because it offers way more then last games in terms of matches, and the second is just the fact ECW was even able to have a video game.

I am happy to see some people are actually going out of their way to try the older games still. They may not have aged well, but when you look at it from the lens of what it was for it's time (more so the WWF games as they were just before the N64 boom), it's easy to appreciate it and how it was essentially a stepping stone for the simulation style games that followed vs the cartoonish games released around the time (Ex. WrestleMania the Arcade Game) Even though the ECW games came out around the time the Smackdown series took the world by storm, I still agree entirely with your opinions on Anarchy Rulz; definitely the most complete Acclaim experience overall.

I had Warzone as a kid, one of the first games i remember player other than WCW nitro and WCW Thunder. I always hated the button combinations just to do random move. I remember just spamming kicks or punches because its all I could remember to do.
Also i thought it was hilarious how the guys would lay face down pretty much dead lmao

This was also my experience as a kid (still enjoyed the games as I just loved them, couldn't tell you why). I have played Thunder a few times but never really got into it. That game also required some strange button combos for moves and 90% of the time the computer would just break my grabs. The wacky characters were legendary (I'm looking at you Starfish!)

Like the laying down full plank mode, the stupid wind up punch you do after being knocked down and attacking while getting up, the stunned mortal kombat stance, the stiff punches and kicks, and then that awkward carrying animation. Its all soooo bad but so good. And yes thats literally the same experience I also had as a kid trying to play these games.

There's charm they have that modern wrestling games seem to lack now in days and that's coming from somebody who's first wrestling game was WWE svr 07. I started getting into the classic wrestling games so can extend my wrestling video game library and man was it worth it.

Well all else aside whether you played games or not while they were hot its awesome that you get to partake in the history of what is wrestling games. Honestly to me the most fun to play games range from smackdown to here comes the pain but thats besides the point lol.

On a random note, I always liked the custom/ non-wrestler themes in Warzone and Attitude. Idk if it's true or not, but someone claims that Jim Johnston himself composed those songs as well.
This is the one area where the ECW games fell flat although to their credit, they did a pretty good job of making knockoff versions of the talent's licensed entrance themes. Most notably RVD, Balls Mahoney, and Sandman.

I just finished my career in Hardcore Revolution with Raven. I pretty much memorized his whole moveset after the second day I played as of late. Easiest way to learn is to play a match vs the cpu, pause the game when in each possible position (ready, tie up, behind tie up, ground legs, ground head, corner, top rope, low health/ finisher) and practice/ try out the moves. At least with Raven, I noticed a lot of moves were similar or shared the same directional inputs but with different attack buttons.

I can remember playing through career mode on WWF Attitude just to get to those rare Superstar shows & hearing that sweet 5 second theme song on the calendar, hearing: "Heh heh, yeah... *random screaming* SUPERSTAR!, YEAHHHH THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE.. SUPERSTAR!.. ha ha ha!".. The one i remember most is the one before Wrestlemania, the last match of career mode, all those 3 on 1 handicap matches i had to plow through to get to that point.. worth it! <;'}
Me & a buddy of mine used to have a stradgety guide book for Attitude, we knew most of the regular combinations seeing as alot of the basic moves had similar inputs but when it came down to the actual finishing move we'd have to pause the game briefly to look up a certain superstars finisher, i can't remember if the game didn't show move lists when you were in a 4 person match so that guide book was kind of handy in a way..
I'm pretty sure it was the same for all four Acclaim games but if you play a four man match you lose out on the entrances for some reason, that kind of soured the experience for me & my friend because we'd always play tag tornado matches with us teaming up, i still believe these games get alot of unnecessary hate, when you take the time to figure out the basic inputs, you can have some fun with these games unlike WCW Nitro/Thunder, i never was a fan of those. The only saving grace they had going for them was the rants & the 5 second intro clips..

I also felt that desire to hear the Superstars snippet every time that title shot came up. Probably the biggest adrenaline rush as a kid, winning my first belt as The Big Red Machine Kane. And yes, those rants on the WCW games are another example of the charm these less popular games had over other games. Almost a sort of time capsule of the actual talent themselves.
