Try to keep it at 1 per series. No more than 2. Unless it is an exclusive that I want or an Ultimate Ive been waiting for (Edge,Macho, Flair), I will be waiting for prices to drop. Wont pre order any regular line figures. Never bought scalped figures, will continue to not buy from scalpers. Figure out my focus of my collection. I have a very full attitude era collection and a growing Golden and Ruthless Aggression era collection. I think I want to keep it at just expanding legends and RA. I really love collecting, it genuinely makes me happy. The distribution does suck though but I've gotten this far without buying from scalpers so I will continue that way.

Actually will probably end up cutting back a bit this year. Without the tracker sites working I doubt I will find much at retail.

Preach it friend, this is exactly what has happened in the last 18 months. Doesn’t help that one of the people in charge is a podcast investor type person (I’m sure Jeremy’s a nice guy but y’all know what he’s doing with AEW is for resellers and ebay markets). Mattel ain’t saints either. They gave out Decade of Domination to a ton of “influencers” while everyone else had their orders cancelled Amen my brothers and sisters. The hobby, which was once a source of casual joy and pleasure for me, turned far more into an obligation in 2020. You are exactly right with the lines selling the notion of "Missing Out" and it's awful. It's not a hobby anymore, it a job, and somewhere along the way, collectors (and by far kids) stopped being the target audience. Now, these figures are sold with the intention of building hype and going the figure version of VIRAL.
There's a lot that can be said for the horrible concept of influencers and their kind. I remember in the 90s when everyone, outside of maybe a few professionally run businesses, bought their BCA and TTL figures at KB just the same. There were no "perks" or "influencer samples" for action figures. Nobody was sending toys to housewives to post reviews for in an issue of Good Housekeeping.
I almost became an influencer, once. For tea. I was on a large tea-review website posting detailed reviews for everything I drank daily. Soon, companies started sending me free tea.
I stopped posting on the website. That's how much the "influencer" market has come to disgust me.
Because, here's the thing. When companies, the manufacturers, developers, and producers of a product start to send you stuff for free, you can't help but think it's because your opinion matters to the community. And it isn't a large leap in thinking from there until you reach "Well, maybe I'm just more important than these simple retail-hunting folk." Influencers, more often than not, have a huge head on their shoulders about their chosen field and the current business practices only encourage their crap and feed their egos.
The dark realization of all of this has led me to two resolutions for the new year.
1. Stop hesitating on buying the things you want. If there's a figure you like, get it. Due to the current market and crap surrounding it, these things aren't getting any cheaper. Spend that 40 dollars now so you don't feel compelled to spend 70 later. Also, I need to remember that my shelves are poorly lit and in a dark corner. Stop aiming for perfection. Not ever figure needs to be Mint off the card. Short of excessive paint rub and figures with missing or damaged parts, there's no shame in having pre-loved figures. You're poor, Shanie. Suck it up and realize that if you want a DM Crow Sting figure, you're either paying 60 dollars, or you're getting one that's slightly worn. And you know what? There's no shame in either of those options.
2. But don't waste money on items you feel obligated to collect because "the community" tells you it's good. You know what, if I had Mattel shoveling figures for free into my mailbox every week, I'd go online and say that Mattel was the best company ever to exist as well. They're not, and stop treating them as such. Be more discerning, pick out only the stuff you want, and stop shelling out money on figures you don't really care about. Yes, this includes buying exclusives and chases when you see them just because they're "Rare". Just because something is hard to come by doesn't make it good.
Sorry for the long post/rant. I'm in a mood tonight.
Interesting perspective, you don’t much get to hear the insides of how influencers and companies interact. I worry about the future of wrestling figs, it’s getting hit pretty hard by influencers trying to squeeze its audience for all its worth. Obviously MWFP created a weird cultist fanbase that buys all these worthless pieces of merch trying to get shoutouts on the show. Now you’ve got Cardona trying to use his wealth and influence to shape the hobby around his vision, just look at the micro brawler community or the constant pandering to Jeremy/Jazwares botched release after botched release. Then you’ve got kids sending in their collection to MDT and he opens up and gives a big “thanks little timmy for the awesome figs!” Idk man, if some kid sends me their toys trying to get on my youtube channel, I’m sending that right back. Even the niche-est of hobbies are getting hijacked by these wealthy influencers trying to dictate the market around their tastes and capitalizing off their young and impressionable audience. Sad times.

What event is the attire on the hall of champions Warrior from? I think its from this picture, but he wore a similar attire in matches against the Undertaker If they ever revisit this era of Warrior, I would love for them to do the similar attire of this from his match with the Undertaker:

Some sad stories in this thread... and sadly, I think there is a common theme, with some of the longer term collectors feeling alienated from the products they have supported for quite a long time.

This thread certainly took a turn that I wasn't expecting when I opened it.
Anyway, I'll probably try to go on with what I've been doing: Only buy figures I really want in my collection long-term,. I know that sounds like a "no duh" statement, but I feel like at times it's easier said than done. Also, I plan to really invest in setting up a nice display this year.

My issue is space to store what I can’t display. The shelf in my closet is almost full. I don’t think asking my gf to use the shelf on her side of the closet would get me anywhere lol.

To tidy up the collection. I've bought a lot of figure bundles and spare parts to customise my collection into only the characters/outfits that matter to me, and it's resulted in a drawer full of extra nonsense I don't care about. I need to finish my projects and sell the junk.
Really should get around to buying a Shield Seth Rollins. Conspicuous by his absence on the shelf right now.

I got (back) into collecting Summer of '19...and was over the moon happy with availability...now he we are and it's an absolute depression.

To stay away from them as much as possible and sell off what's left. I still get a kick out of seeing upcoming figures and collections but my days of collecting is over. It was real fun while it lasted.

To be more patient and not get new figures on eBay right away. Also to be a little more selective and not buy ever flashback.
Also echo a lot of the sentiments about the influencer path the hobby has followed this year. It’s made it a lot worse and I don’t care how much those getting the perks shout that it’s better.

Honestly just to get what I want with minimum of fuss. Thankfully with help from PJ I rarely want for anything. That's something I'm eternally grateful for. Few flashbacks and tag team guys on the horizon I'm looking forward to. Paul Ellering WM series (great set) Street Prophets WM Andre RR Warrior, Austin & Umaga FB Beefcake DOD Kane FB Lawler UE Hogan all on my immediate radar for now...

Decided to get rid of my 'modern' Elite collection and just focus on the 80s / 90s / 00s. Just have to get everything together, figure out the best way to price them and hope I can something.
