Now that we've gotten Elite figures for Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund, Iron Sheik, and Billy Graham, shouldn't we be getting some of the older WWWF and WWF title belt designs to go along with them? Just seems like we have a lot of gaps in the title belt accessories and could use some more old, old school title belts. Does Mattel have the rights to use the World Wide Wrestling Federation designs from back in the day? The one worn by Billy Graham was a really cool, unique design of like we really haven't seen since: And then here's Bruno Sammartino's title: IMHO, not the best or cleanest design, but I think it'd still be a neat addition to the line. Here's that really big circular one held by Backlund, Sheik, and Hogan. Another unique design. This is another Hogan title belt that has not yet been realized in toy form by Mattel:

When they made Bruno, Bill said he tried to get the rights to the first WWWF title but couldn’t do it. It’s probably hard to figure out where to go to get the rights to those old trophy shop belts

That’s probably the exact same question they were asking. I have no idea, I don’t know if anyone knows at this point.

I also don’t think making a mound for a belt that will be released once only will be a wise economic decision based on the info they give us on costs.
Just my two cents.

They’ve done it for the Internet Championship and I guess now the Up Up Down Down Championship, so at least there might be a chance

I think Big Green and 85 are needed. I also want the green IC. Any of the WWWF belts would be cool additions but don’t care one way or the other if they ever get made.

It wasn't until the late 00's that WWE started making it a condition that they own the rights to belt designs for belt makers to get the contract. Before that belt makers retained the rights to the designs, and made the majority of their income from making copies of the belts for collectors/fans. But the older titles were made by mom and pop trophy shops. Odds are that records are lost, and those stores (and their owners) are long by now. Tracking down the proper party to license the designs from is probably next to impossible. I doubt that we'll see any of those belts mass produced at any point unfortunately.

Why..... are two men kissing each other on Bruno's Title belt??
I am guessing they are supposed to be grappling but they look like they are holding each other and kissing.

If the belt designs aren’t copyrighted and no one is claiming ownership of them then wouldn’t they be public domain for anyone to use?

If the belt designs aren’t copyrighted and no one is claiming ownership of them then wouldn’t they be public domain for anyone to use? I think belt designs would fall under the same category as art, so the copyright to the work is automatic and doesn't need to be filed/registered the way a trademark would. US copyright laws are sort of insane - I think it's something like the life of the artist plus 70 or 90 years. So even if nobody claims them, and there's probably a 0.0000000000001% chance anybody would claim them, the remotest possibility of getting sued over copyright infringement is probably enough for Mattel/WWE's lawyers to make it a no-go.
