I watched Dark Pheonix again yesterday & I have to say...I enjoy it more than Apocalypse. If you take out the bizarre alien stuff, Dark Phoenix might be the most "X-Men" X-Men movie. It's not as bad as people say. I haven't gone back to watch the first three X-Men movies in a while. I'm kinda scared tbh. I had fun watching them in the theaters and while I know they're not perfect, it'd suck to find that they're as bad as the recent ones. Recently watched X1 & X2 back to back. It was really enjoyable. 3rd one...whoo boy. Ratner gets too much blame for it. Lots of stuff Fox & internet darling Mathew Vaughn settled on is still in there... |

I really liked First Class when I saw it in theaters and when I re-watched it I absolutely hated it. Not enough Chuck & Erik so when they go their separate ways, it doesn't feel earned. Those sequels feel even more rushed and cramped. |

I don't mind First Class BUT I don't worship at the altar of Vaughn so I don't grant it immediate masterpiece status.
I was always lukewarm on his Hellfire Club & I felt he painted outside the lines too much. Especially disliked the casting of Jones as Emma. Nearly as bad as Singer going to cast Sigourney Weaver as her in his aborted X4.

Churning up some feelings here.
It came out the week my fiancee broke off our engagement. My best friend thought it would cheer me up. It didn't.
Have never rewatched the first one
