Wouldn't the whole point behind MOC is to one day sell them? If you have no plans to sell them, why keep them MOC? I collect MOC with no intention to ever sell. I just enjoy the whole product and think the packaging adds to the product. That being said I may start to open a few of the more standard elites as a space saving exercise. Pretty much how I feel about keeping MOC. I just like it. Selling is not something I want to do. I could see a day down the line where I just have WAY too many and open ones I don’t care about that much, but we’ll what happens over time.

Problem with this line is packaging is all over the place. If you collected Classic Superstars or Black Series or Hasbro WWF then it’s a nice uniform mint collection.
I look at my mint in box/on card figures all the time and am trying to downsize to just my Defining Moments, Ringside Exclusives, and the few others I keep an unopened version of.
What even started me keeping some stuff mint is that RSE Scott Hall sold out pretty fast and I only was able to get one for normal price before it quickly shot up. After that I made sure to get doubles of the Wolfpac figures.
Just think of this if you have a large collection. You can display 6-7 loose figures in the space that one box takes up.

Wouldn't the whole point behind MOC is to one day sell them? If you have no plans to sell them, why keep them MOC? I guess it's knowing the value that makes it hard to willingly destroy that. I don't know, some stuff looks cool in the boxes, I like the photos and art on the boxes. Maybe taking photos like some have suggested would satisfy that. I think this does play on my mind, I don't buy or collect with the intention of selling I do it for the nostalgia factor. I only collect figures of wrestlers from Mania 1 through to around 2002. However, I guess knowing a figure is worth a lot more than I paid for it partly scares me opening but also I quite like the idea of having valuable collectables even if I have no intention of selling...maybe thats conflicting but there lies my problem! I guess my thoughts are the vast majority of figures aren't THAT valuable and I'll get more enjoyment and hopefully free up the room that is currently just full of boxes. Those that I can't bring myself to open I'll keep MOC and maybe keep my eye out for loose doubles but even those are expensive (Macho & Warrior DM from Wrestlemania 7 for example). I dont know how many figures I've got to be honest, probably wouldn't be classed as a 'large' collection to you guys but definitely not a small collection and with the amount of flashbacks and legends coming out (some big wants) I've not intention of slowing down! The other thing that has encouraged me to collect loose is cost. As a UK collector its just so much cheaper to pick up loose figures of those that we dont get over here from US sellers, especially with postage etc Some great pictures, would love to see more so feel free to share! I do worry about dust and also, I'm a bit of a psycho and worry about losing accessories etc especially stuff like IRS glasses Surprised I've not had more people telling me not to open, quite encouraged, thanks guys! Not too many seem to have the stands either which I was surprised about.

When it comes to elites you can always save packaging. They go back into it very easily. Won’t ever be “NEW” again but if you change your mind you could always put it back in the box and display it that way.

I think I've decided to go with wall mounted shelves to display.
Those who display their figures loose on shelves...do you have any recommendations for the best tired steps to display them on?? Guessing three tiers is best but any particularly good ones at good prices? how many figures fit on etc?

I was MOC forever. I had all four walls in my room completely covered from floor to ceiling and loved every second of it. Now that I am a loose collector I really enjoy the amount of free space I have

You're probably going to regret it, once their arms and legs start breaking/falling off...

You're probably going to regret it, once their arms and legs start breaking/falling off... That’s never happened to any of my figures bought new and only ever once to figure I bought used.

Haha! *touch wood* thats not going to happen but it did cross my mind that if I come across any that have manufacturing faults when I open them, I'm screwed as I can't get take them back to the store or whatever I've currently got 25 figures open, I've not counted my MOCs yet but I'm guessing at least 170+ - biggest issue I have is trying to work out what shelf type and the size then what is best to do in terms of risers...how do you work out how many figures can fit on each shelf? pretty hard given their varying sizes and accessories/room for posing....very stressful!

I don't envy you having to open that many figures. When I was a kid it was fun opening toys; now it's an irritation with the way they're compacted into the bubble with bands around their arms and legs and accessories that sometimes seem impossible to extricate. I preferred the days when the bubbles practically fell off the cardback on their own. That said, I hope it's a joy. This kind of opportunity doesn't come along often.

One of the nicest displayed collections I saw was someone had all the boxes displayed on shelves sideways with the figures standing in front. Had multiple bookshelves and it looked amazing.

Treasure this moment. All that opening happy
Treasure it. This level of joy is once in a lifetime
Do it man. Huff them figures. Smell that new fig smell.

I have a room that is wall to wall to wall figures...you dont regret opening them...
However, if you do have MOC ones that are worth some money, you may want to look into selling those and buying loose. If you can sell DM Macho Man for $150 for example and re-buy it loose for $65, that's profit to buy more figures with.

I've always been a loose collector and have gotten alot of my figures out of box but recently I've come into possession of an elite 20 Cody Rhodes and haven't been able to open it yet. This has been the first time I've ever had this problem. My most valuable boxed figure I've purchased previously was the Demolition Crush and I opened it right away but that was last year and even that one had doubled in value since then. It will be interesting to see if I actually open this or keep it in the box.

Open them up!! You can appreciate the figure more even if just on display. I’m of the opinion that if the card design and shape was consistent then it adds appeal to me collecting full sets. Both elites and basics have changed too much for me to display them MOC with a same consistency or esthetic.
Ringside figure stands are lifesavers but sometimes annoying for me. I’d like something more square and flush with the figures width but that’s just me

Loose is the way to go since these these are three-dimensional products! I only display a small number of mine and keep the rest in bins, because I mostly use mine for photos and posing. Shameless plug for my Facebook figure photo page and blog below in my signature! lol

Shameless plug for my Facebook figure photo page and blog below in my signature! lol That's why they shouldn't have scrapped the back view window, the early elite boxes had. Also, even if they are three-dimensional, products, you can still only see the front, when they're stood on a shelf - especially if they're all bunched up together. I've always been a loose collector and have gotten alot of my figures out of box but recently I've come into possession of an elite 20 Cody Rhodes and haven't been able to open it yet. I know which one of the two, I'd keep in the box.

My problem with cody is it's the oldest figure I've gotten in a box and he looks really good in the box.
