Put it this way: a tattoo is like a permanent bumper sticker. That's why political tattoos exist. Side note I guarantee anyone who has *Insert unsuccessful presidential campaign with that election year* tattooed on them is suicidal now.

Same goes for sports fans who got "Super Bowl Champions" or "World Series Champions" with their team's logo when they just ended up losing!

My "Perot/Stockdale '92" tattoo says otherwise.* *I don't actually have a "Perot/Stockdale '92" tattoo.

I’m late to the party, but I wanted to add my two cents.
As someone who has had to spend a good deal of coin in tattoo cover ups, I can tell you what my thought process is now: cool, but meaningful. I don’t want to say that all of your tattoos should have meaning, but, bigger pieces should. There’s nothing wrong with a cool looking, funny, non-offensive piece of flash to put on your body. But, I wouldn’t advocate getting a whole back piece devoted to Sanrio on a whim. And I wouldn’t recommend something “trendy”. I got a tribal that went from my right elbow up my arm to my shoulder and then over onto my chest. It was the 2000s, don’t judge me. I’ve spent a significant amount of time and money having that covered up.
I wouldn’t recommend getting a girlfriend’s name tattooed. And I generally tend to shy away from portraits, as I’ve seen some real nightmares out of portrait tribute tattoos.
My first tattoo was a band logo that I got 20 years ago. I don’t regret that choice still to this day. Since then, I’ve got a half sleeve on my left arm, a full sleeve on my right, both shins, my chest and my right pec.
The only other recommendation I would give is to stay away from face/neck/hands as you want to make sure you can cover up for anything important. Most tattoo artists I know won’t even tattoo faces/necks/hands for anyone who isn’t already covered in tattoos.
So, yeah, just my two cents.

Getting a girlfriend's name tattooed? That would imply I'm not lonely lmao. I want to possibly dedicate a leg to different logos and what not, basically make my leg look like a decal covered laptop. What band logo did you get tattooed on you?

As most have said here, try to make it something important to you. Don't be the guy that just picks something off the wall. I myself, have 2: the insignia of the Rebel Alliance on my right arm, and further down the numbers 04, 07, 13, and 18 to signify the Red Sox recent championships. I love Star Wars and I love the Red Sox. Thinking about adding an In Flames Jesterhead somewhere at some point.

I've only managed to get one so far and it's of classic 8-bit Mega Man if he were a Chicago Blackhawks player. It has several relevant meanings to me.
It's hard for me to say this is the x/y/z parameters for which you should get a tattoo, but there should be some thought process and consideration time before getting the ink done.

Now THAT is good crap pal Edit: Wow, the censoring is weird. Normally on sites that censor the "bad" words just put one of these * to cover a letter.

Presuming most of the members on this forum are my elders to some degree I have a difference of opinion on this. Currently I have 4 tattoos (averaging 18+ hours altogether) & am also planning my 5th before the end of the year. So far I've got a half sleeve on my right forearm (black & grey realism skull with sandtimer & draining blood, connected into a reverse spiderweb covering my elbow, barbed wire band wrapped around my left forearm w/ dripping blackheart, & the Linkin Park Hybrid Theory cover artwork on my left thigh.
Considering a ripped skin piece on my chest & grotesque clown on my shoulder, potentially a graveyard scene with a Raven on my right arm also.

Worst place to ask about this kind of thing. Well yeah but I have no other options, my social life is dead as hell. Well, I’d just make a list of things you like. Then look a variations of it, like animated or black and white or really colorful or something. Think of how you could make it cool visually. Understand you have 100% full creative control on this. I decide on what I want first then decide on the location of where I get it and that dictates the size
