While I (like probably many here) would like to see more FTITL, I think realistically Mattel's breakdown is pretty good. Maybe too many AJs and Rollins, but I really don't think they go overboard. Plus, given the lead time they need and the WWE's penchant for stop and start pushes, it puts them in a bit of a damned if they do, damned if they don't situation. Look at Nakamura. When Mattel went all-in on including him lineups, WWE had positioned him as a major star coming out of NXT, booked him in the upper mid-card and main event, had him win the Royal Rumble by eliminating John Cena, and put him in a WrestleMania title match with AJ. However, by the time the figures started coming out, WWE had long since torpedoed the push and people endlessly complained that he was only made because he was "Bill's favorite." He won by eliminating Reigns, but otherwise you're correct. Ha damn, my memory is going on my old age.

I think Mattel have made huge improvements in their mainlines and if the rumours stay true we are expecting a huge 12 months for NEW faces in the Mattel line, I do see at my local stores their are still Seth/AJ/Reigns On shelves but understand if you were finding WWE product for the first time those are the figures you want so makes perfect sense to me.
I do think Mattel are doing a great job at producing WWE talent and the figures themselves are getting so much more lifelike with amazing detail (just picked up Otis E76 and he is one of favourites so far this year). I know the timing of releases are a little frustrating for us as in how long sometimes it’s takes For someone to come out but I think Mattel have made improvements to that as a little quicker as well, The Fiend came out a lot quicker then I thought it would.

I personally do not buy nor want NXT figures but I do think the brand should get more figs for those who are fans.

Right now he's got a million dollar gimmick where he comes out dressed like an idiot and cuts boring promos with jobbers standing next to him. They'll sell for sure.

I dunno, man, if they made a bare chested, one gloved, leather/fur jacket, man bun Rollins figure, I'd buy it for the insanity alone. I would love to have a figure on my shelf that screams that loudly for an intervention, just so someone can ask me "Who the hell is that idiot" "Man, that's the Monday Night Messiah!" "...."

I think we're overdue for a Candice LeRae. Would love another Takeover line with her, Karrion Kross, Kushida, and an NXT Corey Graves.

I think anyone reasonable can understand that they need a constant stream of revenue with top guys getting duplicates because they sell like crazy, but how AJ still gets consideration for a new figure when I have travelled to numerous Targets in different states now and only seen his top talent warming pegs 2 years after his initial release in excess of 6 or more at each store, that's beyond me.
