I think the ring scenario is just up to the person and that is wonderful there have been and still are so many options outside of the small spring rings. Each ring has its pros and cons.
Jakks Hardcore Ring
Pros: Nostalgic, plenty of accessories for it, Not too small, not too big. Good to have on a smaller table or on a shelf and also good enough for those superplex spots.
Cons: No distribution for it since 2002 which makes it rare/expensive along with the accessories. Still small enough for certain posing/animation/pic fed/play options.
Jakks/spam RSR
Pros: Semi Nostalgic. Great size ring, metal posts, many variations between the Jakks and spam variations. So many accessories including MITB, Blue Cage, HiAC, EC, as well as Ultimate X and Modern cage (spam).
Cons: Fabric Buckle pads can rip, The first RSR pre adjustments was easily collapsible as the posts were not screwed in, Skirt and canvas are mostly attached as one piece which leaves limited amount of customization provided by the manufacture. The inability to swap posts without using a screwdriver and properly swapping out posts if you want to change from white to blue, etc. Resale outside of spam is fairly expensive.
Mattel/WCT/Jazwares ESR/ASR
Pros: Accessible and currently provides a lot of variations between WWE and now soon AEW. So many options of skirts between classic WWF, Attitude Era, WCW, ECW, current Raw, smackdown, select PPVs, NXT and now AEW. Huge ring which leaves a lot of space for whatever you use a ring for. The ability to change posts colors quickly.
Cons: THE TURNBUCKLES!!!! (lol) The size is said to be too big by many, posts being different colors than the sockets and legs if you use other colors than black (This isn't bothersome to me but I do know people who aren't a fan of that.) The initial WCT versions had very loose ropes. Resale is beginning to increase and will continue since WCT no longer will produce WWE rings presumably.
Mattel Raw/Smackdown Main Event Rings
Pros: Most modern style of the ring with the light up features, easy enough to build. Size of the ring is equivalent to the Jakks/spam RSR rings, so those cages for the RSR like EC and HIAC do work just fine with this ring. The turnbuckles are plastic so just hook the rope on. The mat is clean and has a bright look to it. Each ring came with a figure, a table, two chairs and 2 clear poseable stands for high flying spots.
The Cons (My favorite part lol): Ropes are not in scale with the figures, wayyyyyy too short. No accessories like extra skirts, aprons, etc. Have to buy one or both to have depending on the show you want. The bases are a little warped for a few days due to the way it was packed in the box (Just thrown in there..lol) The skirt and canvas are one piece, there were only 2 of these rings and they resale is going up for them as we speak.
Now as some that has at one point had all these rings and preordered the AEW ring, I will say just stick with whatever you guys enjoy the most. I may no longer have my RSR rings but I do have the Raw Light Up ring and use it as a display and for that it looks good. As the main ring I use, I enjoy the ASR. The buckles become easier over time and I am also someone that has always got my own ropes from rolls of Elastic and just tied them together (3mm 1/8th Elastic Cord, any color you want.) The skirts I also really enjoy from WCT as they are a nice vinyl like material. (Also along with being a proud customer/friend to naparo01 who makes the best skirts.)
