Our entry this time is Bill Murray. He started his comedy career with Second City, went on to be on Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell, and then given the order to try to replace Chevy Chase on the other Saturday Night to finally getting into the movies with 1979's Meatballs. From there it was no looking back for Murray who had a string of hits in the early 80's and it wasn't until the flop of his passion project in 1984, The Razor's Edge, that Murray took a hiatus from acting that stopped his momentum. He would not be in a starring role until 1988. So wrestlingfigs...what's your favorite performance by Bill Murray in the 80's?

Stripes is great but ruined by one of the worst extended cuts of all time, which the studio seem to have fallen in love with. Its pretty much the only version available now.

I Can't narrow it down to just one. He's great.
Caddyshack Stripes Ghostbusters Scrooged
Sooooooooooooooo good. And I know it's in the 90's, but Groundhog Day is one of my favorites as well.
I love Bill Murray.

Comedies usually don't work at two hours and this is a great example. The theatrical cut has only been released on blu ray once in the world. It was a little known release in the States in 2016 that was overshadowed by the steelbook which was the extended cut. Any copy outside of that one release is the extended cut. But yeah the theatrical version is great.

I haven't purchased any dvd of it.

The extended cut messes up the flow of the film. It adds nudity and an entire subplot where Ramis and Murray do LSD and go AWOL. It's interesting to see, just to see it, but it drags the film down. The extended cut was released in 2005 and there was a big movement online at the time to get people to buy it on DVD in hopes of getting Ivan Reitman and Columbia to release the deleted scenes from Ghostbusters. The one scene that everyone wanted from Ghostbusters was the Fort Detmerring scene. But really all it did was make Columbia think that the extended cut was what the consumers wanted, which is one of the reasons it's been re-released over the years while the theatrical cut is harder to come by. And that Fort Detmerring scene from Ghostbusters finally saw the light of day in 2019.

In my mind's eye, 80's Murray is Caddyshack & Ghostbusters. Caddyshack is by far his funniest role.
His cameo in Little Shop of Horrors is so underrated. It's a small role, but he puts so much into it.
Great poll! I spent too much time debating in my head. lol

Oddly enough Bill Murray was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Tootsie.
