No they aren't. Legends contract include fees for appearances (ie Axxess) and global merchandising rights for all licensed properties (DVD's, tshirts, video games, trading cards, figures, etc). Steve is probably blue in the remote face from the number of times he's repeated the fact that just because someone has a Legends or merchandise deal doesn't mean they're available to his team. I'm gonna take his word for it. You're welcome to go read the contracts for yourself. There are many examples publicly available in court filings.

I'm not one to complain a lot about Mattel or the way they handle things... but the complete lack of transparency on this combined with the lack of communication with Target on timing for this really does leave a sour taste. Some folks stayed up late only to be rewarded with the figure they wanted being cancelled, a day after designated preorder day. Given there was an ad made, this couldn't have been THAT last minute. While I still supported and grabbed a Valentine and Heenan, and I get that plans change, this is definitely a situation where several companies could have communicated things better. I agree. I share similar disappointment and frustrations. No one here should be shamed for expressing this. This is where we should be allowed to express such things.

Sting was the only one I planned on getting. At least we got the highly requested Beach Blast ‘92 Sting....oh wait.
It’s interesting as Sting has been unusually active on social media over the last week or two.
For what it’s worth, I think the Flair situation has been resolved because WWE has released some Flair merchandise recently. Hopefully the Sting situation is resolved quickly as well. I’ll be very disappointed if it’s not.

I understand the let down from Sting, but why are people still complaining? Did the PreOrders go up? Yes Were you able to easily obtain and Preorder what you wanted minus Sting because of unforeseen circumstances? Yes Will you now be able to have those said figures delivered to your doorstep without pulling your hair out looking all over creation for these figures and you got them at store cost? Yes Relax and enjoy the fact that this was actually able to happen and stop complaining. You're still getting your toys and supporting the return of a great line 1. The pre-orders did not go up on their announced date. You had official verified blue check mark accounts that said Sunday, May 10. That did not happen. 2. Fans were likely staying up or constantly checking for May 10. Lack of communication from Target, Mattel and WWE. It was a WWE Universe account that posted May 10. So they are at least partially responsible as well. 3. Sting is a popular wrestler. Fans were expecting Sting for this wave. Sting was announced for this wave. 4. As of April 4, Steve/AFA with Mattel said the Sting figure was still getting released. 5. Fans have a right to criticize and complain with things they are not happy with. Just because you are happy with what we've been given doesn't mean people should be quiet with their own complaints, frustrations, and disappointment. As a result, people being let down and confused here is more than reasonable.

At least two giant companies failed to properly communicate with the consumer here.

I’ll be very damn if it’s not. Problem the Flair situation caused that UE figure might not get in the line until 2021/2022 depending on when it was resolved. If Sting resigned tomorrow it might be a while before we see it unless a hole opens up in the line up.

Those are fair and valid points for a rebuttal, but I feel as though we don't have all of the information and maybe people at Mattel don't either. I agree with you, honestly, but I'm just happy that we even got the Legends series back and don't want to complain about it. And I'm sure Steve didn't know about Sting until the day of, because that's typically how WWE runs their programming and everything is generally super secretive when it comes to Merch and behind the scenes stuff.

Based on Cody's response on Twitter, certainly sounds like Sting is AEW bound.

Slightly worrying that Sting is unavailable and we're now starting off the line with a Greg Valentine, Bobby Heenan who has had releases in recent times and another Razor (similar story).
Really hope this doesn't have too much effect on the continuation of this line...

Second, I should be allowed to express my disappointment here, and others as well. I'm not the only person upset with how this was handled and the lack of communication here.

I’m surprised Mattel was able to pull Sting. I would think these are in production already

I'm gonna take his word for it. You're welcome to go read the contracts for yourself. There are many examples publicly available in court filings. Imagine a world where not all contracts are equal: Start off by saying super thankful you take the time to answer these questions. I don’t mean to ask this as a “can you make x wrestler” but I was just curious behind appearance like what the headbangers had a while back? When you see appearances like this, do you reach out to WWE about getting rights to make the characters or do they inform you regularly of who is able to be made? I assume headbangers were just one off appearances and were not under contracts that enabled merchandise and figures. Thanks again and I hope you guys are staying safe out there! Both. WWE informs us of updates and and we have contact with them via emails and phone calls throughout each week. Talent appearances are a totally different thing then merchandise agreements though. Even within merch deals, you can have a lot of variations like just shirts, just dot com, figures, etc. For us to make figures, we need deals in place that allow for figures.

Case in point, someone asked AFA in his Q&A thread about it yesterday. But we still had no inkling before the ad that Sting wasn't getting released. Last month, AFA said he was still coming.
