15+ years. Stumbled across the site looking for a Walmart Exclusive RA John Cena figure in white/black Chain Gang shirt.

e-feds seem like they had a long lifespan. I thought they were only around for a few years.

I don't even think I was online in 2002. Was that the year the site launched? The site went up in December of 2001. It's funny, the sort of detail I can still remember about when I first registered an account here. I just crossed 19 years registered here last month. It's equal parts so astounding and confusing and kind of even stupid how much this site has remained a part of my life. When I joined up, I was 16 years old. I'd only just gotten my driver's license three months prior. Looking at the date and time now (February 4, 2002 at 7:00pm), I had only legally gained the ability to drive without an adult in the car that day (my state, at the time, had a 90 day window during which a newly licensed driver under 18 had to have a licensed driver over 18 with them). Knowing what I did in accordance with that new freedom in my life, I can, at least in general frames of time, map out what I'd have done that entire afternoon up until the point I would have registered the account. I was in a school production of one-act plays at the time, specifically in The Philadelphia by David Ives. I played Mark. We were down to the wire, so we were rehearsing almost every afternoon into the evening after school. I specifically remember telling my director that I might a few minutes late for rehearsal that day (we usually had roughly a one hour window from the final bell to when we were due to the auditorium) so that I could ride the bus home, get my 1992 Ford Tempo that I'd recently bought for $1,000, and drive back so that I'd be my own ride home that afternoon, finally being allowed to drive on my own. I did exactly that. Rehearsal would have run til around 5 or 6, which means that I probably came home after, ate dinner with my family, then went downstairs and decided to register an account on WF instead of doing something responsible like my homework. Sometimes I wonder WTF is wrong with me that allows me to remember stupid details like that. I'm 35 now. I have a wife and a kid, my own house, a career, and a car that's not even as old as my account here. Here I am, working (kinda) from home, still surrounded by more wrestling toys than any man, 16 or 35, could possibly ever need.

I minored in history, so I have an almost fanatical devotion to the history of things (as an aside, can you believe 20 years ago now the FBI uncovered a plot to kidnap Russell Crowe by Al-Qaeda right before 9/11? Most fascinating.) Anyway, in December '01 my family did not even have a computer and I would not have discovered an interest in wrestling until roughly 5 years later. I like to try to remember what I was doing on a given day at a given time as much as I can, but often to no avail, it seems as though you have to be born with an ability like that. Then again, I do have landmark memories that could help me guess more or less what it most likely was. Anyway, thank you for giving me the timeline, now I can't help but wonder what would be different if the site had waited until January 2002 to launch?

I feel like I found the site in summer 2003 and signed up in fall 2003. At the time I was going into 7th grade, now I'm 30 with a Bachelor's Degree, substitute teaching high school and thinking about going back into teaching (my original career path). If not, I'll probably be starting my career soon now that I have my degree (I had smaller level jobs and took my time through college). It's kinda crazy. When I signed up Bush was two years in to his presidency, everyone either hated or loved him and the Iraq War. Now both sides look back and dislike Bush, with right-wing populism and Trump leading the way for the GOP, and the Dems kinda split into two camps - mainstream Obama/Biden Dems and Sanders progressive Dems. Bushism and Clintonism are both basically dead (even though everyone thought Hillary would be W. Bush's successor, and then later Obama's); one could perhaps argue the Romney Republicans (very small) are the continuation of Bushism. So basically, my life has changed a lot as has US Presidential politics. And everything else in the world.

Jack never made with the full details promised in this thread last year, but a lot of the long timers here were active on another board called Action Figure Reesource (AFR)/WrestleWorld (WW) that crashed/shut down shortly before WF went live. If I remember correctly, Jack was an admin there. It was run by a guy named Matt Pearson, and a lot of what is here, at least infrastructure wise, kinda carried over from there. I'd say the biggest difference between the boards of today and back then kinda gets drawn whenever it was that WF was bought up by RSC. Before that, it was a bit more "wild west" here...boards getting hacked, certain folks with power getting drunk and creating late night spam boards, etc. All that obviously sort of went by the wayside when there was suddenly an actual business in place relying on this board to be an extension of itself. I can't remember a time when my family didn't have a computer in the house. My dad was in IC layout, so it was always a part of our family, I guess. I'm fairly certain I've been through every OS since Windows 3.0

I remember browsing figure sites as a kid in the late ‘90s, ordering from Ringside for the first time in early ‘01, and then sometime in mid-‘02 I signed up here under a different account. I didn’t post regularly until late ‘04 after I got back into collecting Jakks figures. There have been periods where I’ve drifted in and out, but for the most part, I’ve considered this my home base. The positive experiences far outweigh the negatives. I’ve gotten to know most board members by their usernames, avatars and post habits. I can’t think of any other site I’ve belonged to for that length of time. It’s really kind of remarkable that the look of the boards hasn’t changed all that much in almost two decades. I don’t know where I’d go to find that same source of comfort if WF ever went belly-up.

J'Dinkalage Morgoone No, that wasn’t me, but the name sounds familiar. My original username was @lilman. Some of my fellow mods might remember a story I told of losing a rap battle on the Freestyling.com message boards when I was 13. Lol well that was the catalyst for me leaving there and spending more of my time here in the summer of ‘02. Little did I know that WF would ultimately win out in the forum wars of my adolescence. The paths we take in life, amirite?
