Trump knows he picked up a number of votes on the back of disaffected Bernie supporters in 2016.

I guess as a cord cutter, I don't wind up seeing a lot of the ads these folks take out, but man, do some people take that barrage to heart. My dad (a staunch, hard right, Trump lovin' Republican) usually finds one Dem candidate to really grind the axe against each cycle, and for reasons I still can't quite wrap my head around, it was Tom f'n Steyer, of all people, who managed to weasel right under his skin this time around. I remember going over there the day after Iowa to pick up my son, and he said, almost wistfully, that he doesn't much care who becomes the nominee, but he was just so, so, so glad that Tom Steyer did very poorly in Iowa. Like, I could get Bernie, or Warren, or Biden, or Mayor Pete...but there was unequivocally, indisputably zero risk that Tom Steyer would ever clinch the nomination, much less find himself seated in the Oval Office come January 20.

I actually liked Steyer. He was probably my second choice. Oh, and humor is all I can do to mask the pain anymore so here's more. I've got a whole stash:

There is. You have to be at least age 36. JK. I know what you mean, though. I am not sure I want another president over 70, but we are going to have one. One never knows how their health will hold out and you do not get an election for a VP getting the job if they cannot manage it. I can’t for the life of me think of a reason to work after you are eligible to retire. How about the need for more money to live on in retirement?

Jesus, is that "the belt"? My mom was going on and on about this the other night. I'm glad to see that it's as trivial as she made it out to be. I think Warren drops this week - maybe tomorrow. The easy answer would be a line in the sand and an endorsement for Bernie, but honestly? I think if anyone's got an axe to grind, valid or otherwise, with Sanders, it's her, and I wouldn't at all be surprised to see her throw in behind Biden just to f*ck him. I think there's a VP spot for her in it to try and make a play toward a unified front, and she'd be a fool not to take it. I'm not a Warren fan in the least, but I've honestly got a lot of mixed feelings on the old gal at the immediate moment. I think she kinda came in with an unfair stink applied to her, maybe that she didn't necessarily deserve, and I'm as guilty as anyone for having gone along with it. Maybe I owe her a Mich Ultra.

After the fiasco in 2016 between the DNC-Clinton-Sanders and how Trump completely steamrolled & embarrassed Clinton in the election, I really thought the Dems would step back and regroup, possibly even "refocus" the direction of the party and come together as one.....Nope, they're on pace to not only lose this election but likely the 2024 and I wouldnt be surprised the 2028 at this point. Its like there's multiple parties inside of the Democrat party whereas the Republicans fall in line and support the person thats chosen.
On top of that I think racial/gender difference also hurt the Dems. African Americans turned out in numbers for Obama but dont show up when some old white person is running for the same policies for the same ticket.

Warren dropping out. Official announcement is expected later today. She went from arguably the frontrunner to out of the race in less than two months. I can't really describe it as shocking because it was gradual, and to me very obvious why it happened, but that's not what I would have predicted in early-January when she had a lot of momentum. I think she has two paths forward right now: - Endorse Bernie, reclaim the Democratic Party as the party of FDR, 50-50 chance of winning the primary. If Bernie wins the primary, I think he has at least a 50% chance of beating Trump.
- Endorse Biden, Biden loses in a landslide to Trump.
Of course, she could play it safe like she did in 2016 and wait until there's only one candidate left (which would probably be Biden) before endorsing, but I think that would be unwise. Use your power/leverage within the party while you still have it. But she's shown a lack of good political instincts throughout this primary, so I suppose that's possible too. The next couple of days will be very interesting, to say the least.

It would be irresponsible for Liz to say nothing like in 2016. That's a direct endorsement of Biden, and further alienates her voters come the General. Her smartest play would be endorsing Bernie, with the notion that she'll try to bring her supporters behind whomever is the nominee, while aiding the loser in integrating their so far apart electorate with whichever side.

I am absolutely mind-bended as to the dislike for Warren. I don't want to blame it on the country still not being ready to vote for a woman, but I don't think the country's ready to vote for a woman, still. I seriously could give a rats ass about what beer she drinks or how she appears while doing it or whatever. If she webcast herself drinking beer upside down in a diaper I would still have voted for her. Had she lined up a bunch of shots on a counter, taken them all in a row and shouted with a fist pump there'd be people coming out of the woodwork going 'HAHA THIS BITCH IS AWESOME!!!' Stupid reason to decide a vote.
My great grandmother back in the day openly told family members she would go to the polls and cast based on who had the most balloons at their both. It isn't the 1940s or 50s anymore and we have treasure troves of accessibility and information where these types of decisions shouldn't even be made.
Obviously people have personal preferences from a politics perspective but the fact that we're still factoring in these weird, shallow details in judging who should or shouldn't win almost 250 years after the country started is kind of crazy.

I agree that sexism is absolutely a factor in a lot of the criticism of Warren as a person. The same is true for Hillary. With Warren, my beef with her is that the moment she became the frontrunner, she pivoted to the center instead of staying on the far left with Bernie. Her Medicare-For-All plan became this weird Rube Goldbergian plan that was going to take three years and would resemble the public option that Buttigieg was promoting more than the Sanders plan. I think that cost her a ton of the support she had. And her (campaign's) reaction to dipping a bit was to go after Bernie instead of continuing to go after milquetoast centrism that the other candidates were offering. She still would have been my second choice in this race, but she was closer to third than first for me by then.

In not singling you out hopefully that was clear, but really your joke has legs for a reason from my perspective. I knew exactly why you were referencing that right away. People do make these decisions based on those types of factors on a regular basis and that was what I was trying to call out.

Fair points and definitely an achilles heel of sorts here in that she pushed too hard to try and appeal to too many who were otherwise closed off to what she was proposing.

Honestly, I'd make the same joke if she had a penchant for High Life (my go-to) and made a crack about poppin' bottles every time she cracked one (a strange habit of mine). I know I'm better than the implications and I don't tend to suffer suggestions to the contrary. I still can't utter Marco Rubio's name without making a crack about Poland Spring minis, but tiny beverages aren't the reason I passed over him with my vote.

What’s she to do? She’s painted herself in a very different corner. She can’t endorse the guy that she said said that a woman couldn’t win. I’d actually respect her if she didn’t endorse anyone.
