I would just let this Unrivaled set go for about 4-5 series. See how things are selling and if its rational to branch out. Geez louise this series one doesn't hit til August. I'm more curious of how often new set will hit rather than creating more lines

I think legends figures are almost inevitable. A legends line much less so. Even if they hit a home run, establishing a second line in this retail environment is going to be tough.
AEW has a fairly small roster, and use a fair amount of pay per appearance talent who may or may not be signed to merch deals. Even with repaints of the top guys, it's not too long until you're looking at making figures of QT Marshall or the Beaver Boys, and that's not a great spot for any toy company. They have some iconic talent under contract, and those figures help stretch out the line.
But I do think we'll see some external talent signed to individual deals. Cody and Tony Khan are huge pro wrestling fans, and have already done some excellent tributes to wrestling's past. Jeremy has a history with a legends focused line. And right now there are some in-demand talent among collectors who are unlikely to sign a WWE merch deal either because of how restrictive it is or politics. I'm sure Jeremy is aware of that, and how AEW could exploit that space to their advantage.
Obviously the focus will and should be on their current roster. But unless one party is completely opposed to it, there are just too many reasons why it makes sense not to incorporate a legends/flashback component into this line. They'll have an instant audience among adult collectors, even if they have zero interest in AEW.

Jeremy still owes Tazz a good figure release, that doesn't screw something up.

I think Legends for this would be best sprinkled into the main line. Given that the vibe I get from AEW is that they wanna be loosely associated to NWA/WCW, I think they’d be best sticking with those types of guys. Some examples: DDP, Dustin Rhodes, Rock n Roll Express, Arn, Tully, Malenko. Then maybe you can branch out into overall Legends of that area depending on availability like Midnight Express, Ole Anderson, Luger, Sting, Flair (don’t know his deal), Andre, Steiners, Doom, Freebirds, Von Erichs, Muta. Again, I’m not sure of who is available, but I would say there’s a type of legend they should lean toward.

I don't see people like Sting, Luger, etc leaving WWE's merch world, simply because of the sheer volume of product they sell. Without Hogan, Rock, Austin type anchor talent mixed into the main line makes the most sense. Off the top of my head, I think all these names could be possible: Arn Tully Malenko (I may be the only one, but I'd love to get Joe and Dean as a 2-pack) Taz JR Schiavone Earl Hebner Road Warriors R&R Express Midnight Express (hope the beef with Cornette wouldn't kill this) King Kong Bundy Jerry Lynn Tommy Dreamer Steiners One Man Gang Maybe some classic wrestlers like Ernie Ladd, Buddy Rogers, etc? It's worth noting that there are probably some personal relationships there from the folks that were involved with Classic Superstars. I think Jeremy negotiated and in some cases physically got those contracts signed. So I wouldn't be shocked to see some of the same names pop up.

AFA said he thinks WWE will keep Dusty Rhodes’ estate signed after the next deal is up but somehow I don’t see that happening. If they can find a way to make old looks of people like Lionheart Jericho that’d be cool. Sign Raven for a new figure just cuz. Jeremy can do whatever he wants after everybody current gets a spot as far as I’m concerned

I have a feeling if anything they'll be sprinkled into the main assortment, most retailers aren't going to give up the peg space until the figures have proven to sell. With the talent they have, they could do classic/legend versions of any of these guys and it'd be cool as hell: Arn Anderson Dean Malenko Dusty Rhodes Dustin Rhodes Christopher Daniels Diamond Dallas Page Luke PerryWTH??

I don't really watch wrestling like I used to but this company - especially with the track record of Jeremy I have faith Legends will be in play! I love Mattel's scale size and it seems like Jazwares is every bit as passionate. The good thing about working with WWE is they have tremendous resources to get most what they like ... but I think they can be very dismissive of their past and difficult to work with too. They love to retire wrestlers before they are done and give them some love once a year during the Hall of Fame but even then they don't have figures. I truly think Jeremy's clear passion to get Legends - find them - sign them ... without as many restraints ... will take place. So for example the WWE inducts the Rock and Roll express into the Hall of Fame ... but no figures. I feel Jeremy will get them. The Steiners are probably the most wanted figures but the war with WWE is too great and I think Jeremy could pull it off. And what kind of publicity and buzz would that do to all of the collector's. All of the lawsuits against the WWE ... where the wrestlers own their name ... Boom! One Man Gang etc ... I look forward to it.

All of the lawsuits against the WWE ... where the wrestlers own their name ... Boom! One Man Gang etc ... I look forward to it. WWE has the resources, but they use them as they see fit. Certain legends are ignored and we're told that "it has to make financial sense for WWE" while a guy like Stevie Ray gets signed clearly as a favor to his brother. Not saying he's not an amazing figure, but obvious there are politics. The Legends deals aren't great financially and require the talent to sign away global marketing rights to their name and likeness for years. As with the CS line, I could see a lot of talent who are more than happy to sign a short term figures only deal that allows figures to be made for a price that wouldn't be cost prohibitive for Jazwares/AEW. Nothing is guaranteed, but any smart business is going to look for opportunities to exploit openings in the market. And right now that is a wide open opportunity with certain figures collectors are clamoring for. There's money to be made, and my impression from these early interviews is at the very least they are aware of that and considering it. And that's all we can really hope for.

I think Mattel who is larger and WWE who is larger have advantages but also disadvantages. The disadvantage is this new market for both AEW and Jazwares aren't a $$$$ target. For a wrestling legend to be immortalized this might be their only way in - probably for a smaller price point to be sure and as you said stc13, a individual toy deal could make this far more viable than signing away everything. If this works and sells - they could change the game. I look forward to it and will support both lines. Where the legends are is where I $$$$$ as long as I can get them in stores. Not doing the bay 250 dollar stuff.

Jeremy runs this correct? If so he’s always been super fan friendly and given the fans what they want. I’m sure he’ll do classic/legends figures.

if they could get the NJPW license like they did with TNA, that would be fun. Of course Super7 has the license for that scale it seems, but they're never going to do Inoki or Misawa or Tiger Mask or anybody not currently on the roster. If they could do Wrestling Classics, they could get wrestlers in the gray area that aren't on legends deals and are blacklisted from wwe like The Steiners, Benoit, or Owen Hart

Imagine how this board would explode in rage if Jazzwares was able to sign the Rock N Roll Express, but only released 2019/2020 versions in the AEW line. They’be certainly been on the show enough to likely merit inclusion later on in the line. ROCK & ROLL!!!....ROCK & ROLL!!!....ROCK & ROLL!!! Make it happen....PLEASE!!!!!

In the Cody interview he said he'd like to do a three-pack with him, Dustin, and Dusty, and he said he believes he has the right to make Dusty figures now (but says himself he might be wrong about that).
