Was thinking about No Mercy and something popped into my head. How was Ken Shamrock included in the game? From what I remember the game was released well over a year after he left so it's kinda weird that they removed Big Show who was still under contract and were able to keep in Shamrock.
He was even removed from Smackdown 2 which was released around the same time.

He was under contract when development started. There are plenty of examples during that time of talent showing up in games signed to other companies. Big Show was removed as punishment so they didn’t have to pay him royalties.

^ I think this was pretty much the case. Shamrock would have been under contract when they started developing the game, and they never removed him. Kinda the same story as WarZone from a few years prior - Acclaim started developing the game when Bret, Bulldog, Ahmed, etc were under contract, but by the time the game released in late 98, those guys were all LONG gone.

pretty sure Shamrock had the UFC clause in his contract, where if he wanted to return to REAL fighting he could at any time.
