Sort of in the same vain as mein main mensch ET had AIDS's question, but maybe a bit different... ...I recently maxed out my 500GB PS4's hard drive - shocking, amirite? Anyway. I'm aware that within the past couple years, Sony expanded support to allow for external HDDs with the PS4, but I'm a big dumb dumb when it comes to electronics, so here's my question: If I hook up an HDD to my PS4 and move, say, WWE 2K16 and all its expansions over, should the urge hit me tomorrow to relive the greatest moments of ol' Stone Cold's career, will I be able to play 2K16 without having to go through the trouble of moving the game + expansions back over to the PS4, assuming I leave the HDD hooked up?

I don’t know if this will help or not but I have an external HD on mine and while you can play the game you need to move the data back to the system storage to get all the created data and save universes...etc. but other than putting a disc in and playing I have no clue to these things. lol I would say ask @ham because he was the one who helped me with mine.

If you set up the external hdd to be the main drive for you system (this is done while formatting it when you first plug it in), then you can play directly off that without having to constantly swap back and forth. I have a 4tb external drive on mine that I install everything to and it works perfect. I THINK dlc is still stored on the internal drive even if you have the external as your main drive, but it doesn't cause any slowdown or crashes.

Movies and music are also stored on the OG HD too, same as the Xbox. The external only gets formatted for games and apps, like Netflix and Twitch and crap, if I'm remembering correctly.

Yes, once you have the game downloaded to the external drive, you can play right off of that without needing to move it back to the system. It even works with apps like Youtube or WWE Network. The only thing that you don't have a choice with is the save data, system data, and any captured videos/screenshots, as those are stuck on the system, unless you copy them to a USB drive.
DLC and game data updates can also be stored on the external.
The External HDD feature saved my life!
