And it likely devalues the non-variant/more-represented version because everyone (being us obsessed enough with this stuff to spend time typing about it) will want the gold one because it's the "variant". I'm guessing you weren't collecting when Mattel started because variants are not new to the Elite line. We've had several types of variants throughout the years, Dibiase, Jericho, to name a few, as well as packaging variants. I think this small minority of hyper-collectors are overestimating the impact of this figure. Most people who see these in retail won't even know it's a variant and probably won't care either way. I think it would have been wiser to produce variants of a more desirable wrestler than legit jobbers in Hawkins and Benjamin. My prediction is that they'll be warming shelves. Perhaps THAT's why they're 1/4 cases... the reason lesser popular guys get variants is to help their portion of cases sell. popular wrestlers dont need variants or chase figures. they sell well without them. look at how much more attention hawkins and shelton are getting by having a variant. But is it really worth it economically? Mattel has to nearly spend the same budget to produce a completely different figure. So they spend a bunch more for the same amount of money they would have made otherwise? The wholesalers are paying the same for a case whether or not it has the variant. While it may engage a few collectors, will it make a noticeable difference at retail? Like I said above, I don't think the majority of consumers will even have an awareness for these variants. Of course on a wrestling figure forum we'd be talking about the figures regardless.

At least we're discussing facts as reported by real, paying customers. It's not like we're talking of "fake news" here that's going to be deleted and banned for. Banned no, deleted is likely. Not guaranteed but likely. And I agree, it's 1000000% scalping. But still, it doesn't let us talk bad about its precious

Of course on a wrestling figure forum we'd be talking about the figures regardless. its a known fact that things like variants help get lesser popular figures sold. it's smart business. they know a Sting or Reigns or Rollins will sell well so help guys that arent as popular by having some of them be variants. now they know 25% will sell well and they have to focus on 75% of it instead of 100% of it. It's always been like that. Guys like Bill won't publically admit to it because its all behind the scenes sales tactics but it's been stated by plenty of well known makers.

They aren't going to do a second Gold Standard elite Shelton Benjamin. This is essentially a flashback figure with a significantly lower production run from other figures. They may make more elite Sheltons and improve upon the first bringing that figure down. Hell, at some point they may make a pre-gold standard initial singles run Shelton, but another Gold Standard elite? In the words of Gorilla Monsoon "Highly unlikely" I really doubt the Gold Standard version is going to in the long run end up running below at least initial retail. Matter of fact, I don't see it going lower than 10-15 more than retail in the long run. 2004-5 singles run Shelton (beating Triple H three times in a row, IC Champion) Benjamin was the best imo. The gold standard was so awful, jobbing mainly and being racist on ECW - it was not a high point in his career. If I wanted a Shelton Benjamin figure, I wouldve bought his Jakks RA Team Angle figure back then. Considering how Bill loves his USA attires, Im surprised that wasnt the variant. The Gold Standard was pretty much a Natural Butch Reed ripoff.

It was much much easier to come across 3-4 cases of Elites at Kmart and tons of those Dibiases and Jerichos. Now a days I only see shelfearmer leftovers of series 8 months behind at Walmart and Target. Rip Kmart and TRU. Plus those were solely attire color changes. This is , again, a completely different era and gimmick of Shelton Benjamin. One that's highly short packed and they'll never make again KMarts not dead yet...

This one has a ladder lol Even the variant has a variant! Mine didn’t have a ladder, guess I gotta drop $35 more since I collect all including package variants. Mine variant to the chase variant should be here Tuesday-Wednesday.

My Kmart is still open but had nothing worth buying for years!

THIS is why variants are stupid. These will sell for $15 shipped TOPS after the initial ‘cool to have it first’ factor wears off. The only ones that like these chase figures are people that can price gouge and/or control the area by scalping or works stocking them so they never make the shelf. Never been a fan of ‘variants’, due to this very reason. No single elite made by Mattel is worth $50 shipped ... especially a poorly done one, with different paint apps 🤣 Cool for the ones that want it, but what Mattel is doing with these ‘special/1 per case/variants’ is what kills lines and makes people say forget it. You really think the Chase Gold Standard Shelton is gonna be selling at $15 at any time ? I highly doubt that. It's literally two different eras of his career. Plus he's the first Chase they've done. It's been confirmed that he's about 25/100 and even the current Shelton is probably gonna be the hot seller of this set. The Hawkins variant won't even go that low. When you find the Chase variants for $15 anywhere retail or online please let me know. Until then please don't be so exaggerated. Screen capped for when it does 👍🏻

But mine are either closed or have nothing decent WWE wise. You really think the Chase Gold Standard Shelton is gonna be selling at $15 at any time ? I highly doubt that. I think $35 is a fair price for a chase elite! $10 difference for a chase? It’s a no brainer to me.

I bought 2.....I figure the time & gas & frustration i would save myself, it would be worth it. I love hunting for figures, but nowadays, with the crappy infrequent restocks at my local Targets & Walmart’s, I’d rather just pay a little more
