I am currently in a position that I have not been happy in for a long time and have been trying to find a job for nearly a year at this time in my field, which is customer service and tech support, but I've also been trying to find something outside of my field, but just not getting any hits. Is anyone else here looking for a job, and if so, what do you do now and what are you trying to get into?

I'm currently trying to get a part-time job for the days I'm off college. Can't say I've tried that hard though lol. Still cranking a CV/resume together.š

Currently looking for an accounting internship for the summer. I think my problem is that my resume isnt the greatest. I thought about paying a website to re-do my resume. Although I don't think that will help in my case. One place turned me down supposedly because I had too many jobs on my resume and it show stability. Which I don't completely agree with, because while I've had a few short stints, I also had a few 1-3 runs with different companies. I recently altered my resume to take out some of the shorter length jobs to see if that would help.

I'm a graphic designer. I design labels and packaging for dietary supplements but I'm trying to break into brand identity or advertising/marketing design. I've applied to a few graphic design firms so I'm hoping I hear back.

The only thing I'm looking for when it comes to a job is that it pays enough that I can pay ALL of my bills, on time, aaaandd have a decent chunk of money extra each and every month. Even just $400 extra after bills would be nice. $8.25 minimum wage here does NIT cover bills and basic needs, let alone leave any for savings, leisure, or unexpected expenses.
Pretty much sucks. Has made it very hard to have a "decent" living, for some 3-4 years now.

Donāt pay a site to write youāre resume. Iām an accountant and I fell for that trap. Paid like $700 and ended up having to put in a complaint with the Better Business Bureau to get my money back. It was worthless. What Iāve also realized at this point is most of the people that get your resume are so flooded with resumes that they donāt actually read it until they glance at it right before the interview. The best advise Iād give for resumes is to limit to one page max and only include the most relevant work experience that you can talk a lot about. I couldnāt get an internship when I was in college. Instead I ended up working for a bookkeeper with a bunch of mom and pop type clients. I literally worked out of my bossā basement, but I was exposed to some quality experience. It sucked that getting my paycheck was always like pulling teeth, but it was a stepping stone. One that I no longer have to put on my resume. After I graduated and got my Masterās degree, I quickly learned an MBA isnāt impressive in larger companies anymore. I spent the next two years interviewing during the day and working at a restaurant at night. Finally I interviewed at a small private company. The first (and really only) question I was asked was āWould you be available to start tomorrow? Weāre short handed.ā I said yes and they hired me to do budgeting for the company. I had no clue how to do budgets in an industry I had no experience in. Luckily, a couple weeks later the person that was helping with inventory management quit. I ran up to that personās manager and asked if I could fill in since budgeting was kind of seasonal. That company was a mess but all their flaws meant opportunities for me to pick up new skills. It led to LOTS of stress, but I gained lots of experience and I learned how to play the office politics game a bit. I left that company a few years later for a job where Iām making almost double the money and doing a fraction of the work. Moral of my story is donāt be afraid to look at small companies that seem to be in turmoil. Like startups or companies clinging to life. You have to deal with a lot of crap early on but it pays off when youāre more battle tested than the people coming from big time jobs. Experience has shown me those people get nervous more quickly and have trouble hanging when things get tough. Plus having āwar storiesā is always fun when you hang out with others in your field.

I'm at a crossroads and it sucks. I still don't really know what I want to do with my life, and I'm "all grown up". I've thought about getting into pharmaceuticals since I have a lot of knowledge already, and I think the school process would be a breeze. But even then, I have some reason for pause.
I'm looking for a shitty retail job in the meantime. Everyone is hiring.

Somewhere that isn't in a kitchen, never again.
Ever.
