The following is a transcript from a recent podcast ranking the top ten WFWF wrestlers:
The Hickenbottom Report
Welcome back to the podcast. It's time to move on from our review of El Grito de Dolores and get into our semi-regular rankings of the top WFWF wrestlers. As usual, this list is my opinion... keyword OPINION. You're welcome to disagree and you can feel free to tell me all the reasons I am wrong in the comments below. I may or may not read them. I probably won't respond to them. 'Cuz this is the Hickenbottom Report, I'm Mike Hickenbottom, and you're not. Get your own podcast.
So let's do this.
#10a - Chris Priceless
We like this guy despite his so so record so far. He has all the tools to go far. It's mainly his inexperience that is holding him back. The longer he sticks around, the better he will get.
#10b - Ryan "Needles" Payne
Needles is an intimidating man who loves violence. It's too bad he doesn't love winning. He could be doing much better for himself if he wasn't losing so much but he shares the #10 spot because he doesn't look the loser coming out of his matches. If he gets his head on straight the rest of the roster better watch out. We could have another Trace Demon on our hands.
#9 - Tugarin Zmey
When you're seven feet tall and over four hundred pounds, you are a constant threat to the entire roster. Now we realize most of what Zmey has done in the WFWF recently has not happened in between the ropes in a sanctioned match but it's hard to ignore the man who has laid out David Brennan on multiple occasions and beat Drakz so badly that Drakz had to resort to a steel chair, taking a DQ loss rather than let the beating continue. We have to wonder what this monster could do if he got out from under Kyzer's thumb and focused on his own wrestling career.
#8 - Shuggy
"What's a Shuggy?" That's a question Shuggy is answering with his performance in the Vanguard Tournament. He's a happy go lucky high flying risk taker with an odd fetish for aliens (no probing jokes in the comments please, we run a PG site), a shocking contrast to his famous friend Joe Bishop. One more win and the answer to "What's a Shuggy?" will be "WFWF Vanguard Champion".
#7 - Ante Whitner
The self-proclaimed redeemer came up short in his "Golden Opportunity" against Frank Lynn but he remains a top contender for any and every title in the WFWF. It doesn't matter if you buy into his born again status or not, he is a veteran with all the skills necessary to become a champion once again.
#6 - Tyler Draven
First off, he needs to get over the whole Trace Demon incident. It does him no service to talk about how he snuck up from behind and bashed a man's head in with a baseball bat. Instead concentrate on the fact that he is undefeated. He has the talent. All he needs is the focus and the opportunity. Damn shame he wasn't in the Vanguard Tournament but whoever wins, Mesh or Shuggy better be looking over their shoulder for this guy.
#5 - Mesh
The blue haired pixie. Smurfette. The annoying little girl. Call Mesh whatever you want but you better not forget the most important description: winner. With the lone exception of Frank Lynn, nobody has solved the puzzle that is Mesh. We like her chances in the finals of the Vanguard Tournament. The sky is the limit for Mesh.
#4 - Kyzer
The sickest bastard on the block but nobody can seemingly do anything about it. Kyzer is a force to be reckoned with. It's made even harder because where goes Kyzer also goes Tugarin Zmey. That could be the tipping factor in Kyzer leaving London as the champ... as long as Brennan doesn't bring his adopted Thai orphan assassin with him. Kyzer might rate higher if his focus was on winning titles. Truth is, he only seems to care about destroying the last remnants of the New Epoch. He wasn't nearly as focused in his match against Frank Lynn earlier this year and lost as a result.
#3 - Drakz
Debate all you want that Drakz should be above Frank Lynn after beating him but that's one match and it was no easy affair for the arguably greatest wrestler in WFWF history. He didn't look so good after Kyzer had his way with him following the match. But this is Drakz we are talking about. Let's be honest, if he pulls off the win in the triple threat against Brennan and Kyzer then he will once again be THE MAN and return to his customary #1 spot on the list.
#2 - Frank Lynn
The reigning International Champion is riding high after beating Ante Whitner. It was a career defining match that cemented his claim to the title despite the questionable circumstances behind him winning it in the first place. Frank Lynn has shown that he is no Dex. We don't know who is next for him but we're sure whoever it is, they won't be looking forward to getting in the ring with the lethal weapon. He's on fire right now.
#1 - David Brennan
Yes, the reigning WFWF World heavyweight Champion has gone through some tough times recently with Kyzer and Tugarin Zmey but he still holds the most important belt in the wrestling world and nobody has come close to taking it away from him. It should be interesting seeing how he fares when he has to face TWO of his deadliest opponents in London. One on one Brennan would be our odds on favorite but against both Drakz and Kyzer at the same time... we don't like his chances. If he comes out of this match with the belt then you have to consider him truly one of the greatest of all time.
There you have it, the latest and greatest Hickenbottom Report Top Ten. Top that Ichabod Slipp, if you can.
