CM Punk was recently asked if he is still doing MMA training in an interview with spam.com.
Punk fought Mike Jackson in a welterweight bout at the UFC 225 pay-per-view event on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. As seen in the fight, Jackson dominated it and Punk showed a ton of heart but was winded after the first round. Jackson was able to pick up the unanimous decision win.
Here is what he had to say:
“Yeah, of course. From January until my fight, I was inundated with offers to do all kinds of other stuff, but focus had to be on the fight and the camp and all that stuff. So, what I’m doing now since my fight is I’m finishing all these other projects that I’ve been doing. Today’s my first day off from a four-week movie shoot. It’s week three, and this is like the first day that I’m off. Prior to that, I was up in Toronto working on a Soska Sisters remake of the legendary [David] Cronenberg film, Rabid. It’s a film I’m working on now. They’re kind of futzing with the title, but I think they’ve settled on Girl on the Third Floor. And there’s a whole bunch of other stuff in the queue I’m kinda just working on and working my way through. As soon as I wrap here, I’ll be right back in the gym.”
All I can think is maaaaaan Mike Jackson must have hit him way too hard. There's a fine line between not giving up because you have "heart" (which doesn't win fights btw) and being too stupid for your own well being.

He trained for about a week and a half after getting his ass kicked back in June and then stopped to film a movie

At this point Punk should just stick to his day job: being AJ's husband.

it’s too bad, I’m a big fan of punk but to say he didn’t tarnish his reputation and stock value with that bad performance in the octagon would just be blatantly untrue.
i think he can repair his image, if that is something he’s inclined to do. but mma is not going to be the way he does that.

My favourite thing about this thread is that nothing WWE/wrestling is related to it lol

I respect his persistence. But the definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Either he really likes getting hit in the face, or he truly thinks he has a shot in MMA still. He’s 40 freaking years old. If you really wanted to do this you should have started a lot earlier in life. Sorry but the ship has sailed on that endeavor. Go back to do the thing that you were actually good at instead of constantly being embarrassed by it, yet still taking money from fans pockets that still want to see you.

My favourite thing about this thread is that nothing WWE/wrestling is related to it lol You have a good point. I honestly wonder what qualifies anymore since we have threads about retired or passed away wrestlers pop up all the time when they had nothing to do with WWE for years i.e NWO members like Nash and Hall, Macho Man, etc

Well obviously it won’t be in the UFC so I don’t get why anybody would have a problem with it.

Idk. Ryback and Big Cass end up here so idk where the grey area is any more.

Getting your ass beat for millions of dollars ain’t so bad. With the increasing amount of knowledge that we have about CTE, it's not worth the risk. He's getting ready to turn 40, and he clearly doesn't have elite-level fighting talent. He should hang it up and worry about his long-term health.

He actually didn't say he was going to fight again. He just said he was going to return to training again after he finishes his movie. This was his response to taking another pro fight:
I think he'd be right up Bellator's alley. He's the kind of thing they love because of the eyes he'll draw. He's about to be 40. It's obviously his life, his rules, but I don't know why he wouldn't just do movies, tv, hosting gigs, and what not and just relax. To each their own. Nothing wrong with trying and failing and moving on, though. It trumps the 98% of people who never try at all.

There is nothing wrong with CM Punk wanting to fight in MMA, but he shouldve started in a regional promotion. But because of CM Punk, fans had to watch 3 fights that should not have taken place inside the Octagon, 2 of them being on the main card of a PPV, 1 of which shouldve never been sanctioned by a state athletic commission.
