Micah "Own"ings is more like it. Love the thread title. Would love it even more if it was the "Official Clay Bellinger and Chuck Knoblauch Thread," *sigh* but that will never happen.

too bad owings is a pretty mediocre pitcher who's on the verge of losing his rotation spot, or maybe i could take him more seriously.

Look out for me at the Yankee Game on YES, I'll bring some signs. Don't know where I'll be sitting though, so, I might hold them, but it depends on where the seats are. I'm deciding to bring one that says "Jeter/Cano > Reyes/Castillo" and something about Michael Kay, cause that'll make TV time for sure

Oswalt and Lee hurt
Just great, one of the few that actually contribute in a positive fashion.
Rotoworld says troy patton may be called up, I wanna see how he fares myself.

Joe Crede will be 30 years old to start next season and a FA with Scott Boras as his agent. He has some pop, but is usually around a 250 hitter with 20 or so HR. He isnt worth what Boras will ask for him, and Josh Fields projects to be a much much much better player. The rumor last offseason for Santana/Crede was the worst move ever on the White Sox, they should have done that. Crede might come back from a back injury, and be like his 2006 season, actually he will because its a contract year, but theres a good chance he does not come back. Therefore you alienate Ryan Sweeney, the White Sox best prospect, Brian Anderson the best defensive OF the White Sox have and Jerry Owens, your version of pre-injury Scott Podesednick if you move Fields to LF, sign Rowand and keep Dye. The White Sox are half rebuilding and half contending, some of Williams's moves have been awful, like he hasta make up his mind. The team, even with Rowand is a 3rd place team in the AL Central, and dont think I am bashing you Nashy, but the team cant contend with Detroit or Cleveland unless they make up their mind and deal their prospects for places of need (SS, rotation help, bullpen help) or they should have let Dye walk, traded Crede last year and went with the kids. Teams that cant make up their mind on rebuild or go for it now usually wind up in 3rd place It's impossible to rebuild and go with youth when you have a $109 million payroll. It just doesn't make any sense to pay that much money for a crapteam. That figure shows just how much Williams has handcuffed the team for the near future but they really don't have any other choice but staying in win-now mode even though they don't really have the talent to compete with the other top teams in the division. Not to mention the White Sox really have to tread lightly when it comes to rebuilding. We're talking about a franchise that lost probably half its fanbase 10 years ago with the White Flag Trade. If the fans feel like the team is blowing itself up only two years after winning a World Series you worry about alienating all the fans and losing the momentum you've been building recently. And with the Cubs starting to play well again it might be years before you ever start to build the fanbase up again. I don't know why you keep bringing up Brian Anderson, he is a backup OF at best with the Sox, he had an entire year to prove himself last year and didn't hit at all then or this year in the minors. The only prospects with starting potential right now are Owens and Sweeney, Owens probably locked up a starting spot for next year. It would be too big of a risk to rely on both him and Sweeney to start right away next year, I'm not sure Sweeney is ready yet. I think the Sox are making the right decisions recently, at least for the situation they are in currently.

Pretty much spot on right there krush. They really have no choice other than to try and win now. They showed that yesterday by signing Dye to a 2 yr deal. But its not enough. They need to make atleast one blockbuster trade in the offseason if they want to finish any where near the post season.

Do you guys think that the Yankees should eventually make Joba Chamberlain the closer when Rivera can't get it done anymore....which is going to be sooner than later.
I know the Yankees want him to be a starter, but just like the Red Sox realized with Papelbon, he is more valuable as a closer. The ability to get the last 3 outs is such a difficult task that is so overlooked by a lot of people, and if Papelbon was a starter the Red Sox would not have as many wins because a lesser caliber closer would have blown some of those leads.
Before the Red Sox got Gange, who arguably has done more harm than good, if Papelbon was moved into the starter role, the closer was set to be Joel Pinero....which would have been a disaster for the Red Sox.
So my point of view is that once the Yankees stop treating Joba like a baby and giving him 2 games off every time he throws 10 pitches and actually let him pitch back-to-back games, he would be more valuable as a closer.

I'll never understand why you whine and bring up silly things when the Yankees are winning

I'll never understand why you whine and bring up silly things when the Yankees are winning Who is whining? All I said was I think Joba has closer stuff and actually gave Papelbon props for being unhittable in the process......sooooo I don't see where I whined about anything. All I did was state the obvious, that Mariano Rivera isn't going to be able to play baseball forever so it would be smart to have a successor, even though it's hard to replace the greatest relief pitcher in the history of baseball, but Joba has better stuff than Rivera ever had....but come talk to me in 11 years and we'll see who was better, Joba or Mo.

Santana strikes out 17 in 8 shutout innings while giving up only 2 hits, both to Sammy Sosa.
