Aight. So there was an issue I had to deal with earlier, and this isn't the first time I've had to deal with it.
Sometimes, trolls and other people of the like think they're so clever they'll PM you their insults and think they can get away with it because you can't report PMs like you can posts.
But AHA! FEAR NOT! Abusive PMs CAN be reported. But there's a certain procedure you have to go through to do it.
Step 1: Receive harassing PM. This step should seem redundant, but it's really not. Just because someone sends you a PM that's disagreeable, that doesn't mean it warrants a warning. HOWEVER, if you DO receive a PM that's harassing, threatening, or anything you'd normally report if it were posted on the forums, proceed to step two.
Step 2: Forward the PM in question to the admins. If you're accessing the site through Tapatalk, you have to go to the mobile version or desktop version for this. From there, open the PM, and you'll see a drop down arrow somewhere around the timestamp that says actions. Click that, and click Forward.
Step 3: Forward that pesky PM to us admins. Our site tags are admin and halo. You can also search for us by usernames Jack Specific and Negan, either way we'll pop up. Once you have us both as recipients, say in the PM why you're reporting the PM and send it to BOTH of us. This is just to make sure one of us doesn't miss it, because we both get a lot of PMs naturally. We're popular. Or unpopular. Opinions may vary.
Step 4: When one of us gets the forwarded PM and decides to take action or not, we will let you know. For confidentiality purposes, if a punishment short of a banletion is given we cannot say what it was. Will just say "Got it, thanks!" or something to that effect.
WHAT NOT TO DO:
DO NOT: Post a quote of the PM in the Lounge or Support or anywhere else and tag us and ask us to handle it. This has happened. And it hasn't ended well. We have procedure for a reason.
DO NOT: Just quote the PM and PM me and Jay and paste the quote. It's not that we don't believe you, it's just that it is very easy to change around words or "frame" a member for something they didn't do. Again, this doesn't happen often, but it HAS happened before.
DO NOT: Send us a screenshot of the PM. Much like the above, screenshots can be, and have been in the past, doctored. We believe in trust, privacy, and integrity, but it's been abused in the past so that's why these measures have been taken.
We want everyone to feel safe on WF. We have ToS and WF specific rules, whether they are common sense and decency rules, or rules implemented by our parent website Ringside Collectables. We want you to have a fun time on this website. That's why we're here, and I made this post read like a Fallout video game tutorial for those of you who are gamers.
However, seriously, the rules of WF are here for a reason. And they don't just extend to posts. They extend to PMs too.
So here's your how to. We hope you never need to consult this, but here it is just in case someone decides to turn full heel in a private discussion.
