Thats like sayin it wouldnt be a big deal if Jeter became a free agent and signed with the Tigers because his family lives in Michigan. Nothing is ever a big deal until the Yankees get involved. If Jeter actually does something like this in 15 years then it prob wont be a big deal if he lives there already and is spending time with his family. and hey mike In that sense, why didnt Houston fans make a big deal about Pettitte signing with NY?? When Pettitte signed with Houston he said it was to be closer to his family.....Just like Clemens did

There was WAY WAY more of a unhappy uproar about Pettitte than signing Lee
I would know as i frequent the Astros MLB Boards aswell as have friends from Houston
and TRW makes a good point

I stand corrected then. To me Pettitte comming back to NY was more of him comming "home" then actually comming home. I can see why Clemens could have returned to Houston but at the same time i can see why he went back to NY and honestly i dont think the money was that big of a deal. NY threw all the money in the world at him last year but didnt give him the breaks that he wanted and he went back to Houston. Now his friends are in NY AND they offered him his breaks and he took the deal. I also see why you, being a Stros fan is upset about it but from baseball fan to baseball fan i guess im just tryin to giving reasons (other then money) why it does make sense. I mean if Bagwell or Biggio came to NY then yea i would be steamed if i were you!!!

That's it! I've had it! The Yankees buy all the good players! The one they didn't out bid us on was Dice K and it's turning out to be a good move on their part because he sucks! Now they get Clemens because they didn't waste the money on him! He didn't even listen to the Sox counter offer but no no no it's not about the love of NY! This isn't fair! I'm tired of only leading the div for the first half of every season at most! Ortiz should have been MVP last year! Manny's being Manny so lol!
It's just not fair! Last year when we had all of our injuries our team just flat out sucked! The Yankees have had practically every valueable piece of their team miss time except A-Rod and they still are within a hot streak of sending Boston back to no playoff wins since the last World Series victory!
waaaa

You all know Dice K is a 26 year old pitcher who is going to be fine, hes pitched 5 starts in the majors and he already sucks according to Pipe Fitter and The Bad Trader, yet Clemens is 44 years old and you getting 20 starts for 2.8$ Million.
Are you kidding me? Do you see the difference?
You guys know why Clemens didnt listen to the Red Sox counter? BECAUSE THE YANKEES MADE THE FIRST AND "TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT" OFFER TO CLEMENS AND IT WAS A RIDICULOUS OFFER.
Clemens agents didnt ask for 28$, THE YANKEES OFFERED IT BECAUSE THEY ARE DESPERATE!
When Clemens gets signed we get all these clown Yankee fans, its sad.

For the amount of money spent Clemens to Yankees is a better choice because 28 mil for a future HOFer that can still play in the major leagues is a better bet then a unproven Japanese player for 103mil....Now in the long run (or by the time the season is over) will that be the same? Who knows but up front Clemens is a better choice for NOW then Dice-K (now as in this season, present....Not 3 years down the road)

How is 28$ million better for 20 starts as opposed to 100$ million over 6 years for a 26 year old starter?
He is unproven, but Pipe Douche said he sucks, you know who sucks....Kei Igawa, Carl Pavano, and MARIANO RIVERA! GASP!
Why do you all of a sudden come here, where were you when the Red Sox were beating the Yankees?
Oh, I know where PROBABLY RIPPING KIDS OFF

Let me finally say my piece on Roger Clemens.
Roger Clemens is my favorite pitcher ever. He is arguably the best starting pitcher of all time, when you take into consideration the era he played in. However, he has regressed to a pathetic hired gun. Nothing more. The way he left the Red Sox wasn't his fault, Boston ran him out of town, and practically embarassed the man. However, post 2003 the way he has strung along the Yankees, Astros, Red Sox, and even Texas Rangers, has been a joke. Clemens doesn't care about being closer to his family. He cares about 3 things- His wallet. His records. And himself. The family and the rings are secondary. I wish him nothing but luck. I feel he will finish about 12-7 with a 3.80 - 4.30 ERA, and a bunch of strikeouts... but I honestly don't even view the Yankees as a playoff team right now. Its not even the record, the team has looked bad and old.
I am probably one of few Yankee fans who isn't overly thrilled with this signing. Am I glad that I will likely get to see him pitch again- Yes. Am I glad that he gives us an upgrade in our pitching rotation over Kei Igawa and our #5... No. He is not an upgrade over Wang, Pettitte, or even Mussina at this point in his career, and time will show that. He is a 5-6 inning pitcher. If you're lucky, you'll get seven. He will boost the attendance even more, as if we needed it, and will sell more merchandise. Aside from that, the postives really aren't that overwhelming.
If you think he is going to come and dominate as he did in the NL, you are in for a rude awakening.
Roger Clemens is going into the hall of fame with a dollar sign on his hat.

I kind of agree with most of what you said, except for him being a 5-6 inning pitcher. I'd gladly take 5 or 6 innings than 3 innings from Igawa. Clemens as a 4th or 5th starter is a huge boost for any team, no matter how you look at it. The main reason this signing is an advantage is because he's not even going to be looked at as the first, second, or third best pitcher on this staff. All he has to do is throw 5 or 6 strong innings of 2 or 3 run baseball. The Yankees aren't asking him for 7 inning shutouts every time he takes the hill.
I really don't see this working negatively at all for the Yankees. Worst case scenario, he's still better than Igawa, Wright, etc.

Buster Olney even went so far to say that he will go into the Hall of Fame as a Yankee, just because "he will work something out with MLB because of his love for the Yankees" which essentially means "Him or Steinbrenner will pay tons of cash to get that NY on his hat"
The way Clemens is slotted, he could be the #1, 2, 3 pitcher in that rotation, especially if he comes back against Boston
