if the yankees get swept does that mean their season is over? If the Yankees get swept against Toronto and/ or Boston, I think any possibility of them winning the AL East is over. What else is there to possibly say about this team? All I know is that right now, Clemens' return puts the organization in a very tough situation. If he wasn't coming back because of how much he loves Joe Torre, there's no question in my mind that Torre and Cashman would have been fired already. Steinbrenner really can't (and more importantly won't) do that to Roger now, so I'm pretty sure that regardless of what happens, Torre finishes the season as the Yankees' manager. I'll give the team until mid-June...if the deficit in the East is still 10+ games and the Wild Card is still 8+ games, I think it's over.

i know it's early and all. but,i think the AL East is Boston's for the taking. I mean, they've lost what, 15 games? It'd take a reallllllly big blow to the team to make them fall and give up their spot on top. I mean, they're already like 10+ games up on the Orioles who are second. The only way anyone can overtake them is if Boston absolutly blows for a long time such as 10 games, (which i never see that happening) and someone like Toronto or Baltimore, or New York go on a complete tear. Kinda obvious.

The Yankees could realistically still win the division, but I don't see them all of a sudden snapping out of this horrible start. They still have 10+ games against Boston, but the only way I see them really winning the division is if they win all of their remaining series against the Red Sox and playing .700 ball the rest of the season. So, it's not IMPOSSIBLE...but it's pretty God damn close.

They'd need to get really hot for a while and the Sox would have to almost implode. If the Yanks get hot and the Sox struggle to play .500, they could catch them. Highly unlikely though.

The Yankees are going to finish in 2nd place, regardless of what happens as far as the postseason goes. Eventually, the team will wake up and start scoring runs again, but if they wait until July to do it it's going to be too late. Everyone has been saying for weeks that this team could get back into the race if they "turn it around tomorrow." Well, each game comes and they just dig themselves into an even deeper hole.
I thought that if anything was going to get this team going, it would have been the series win against Boston. Now, I have no idea what'll happen.

The Yankees arent dead, but it would take a monumental collapse from Boston and I dont think that will happen and heres why: You would need Beckett/Schilling/Matsuzaka to lose 3 in a row, or 5/6 whatever...the way Beckett was pitching, Schilling back to normal tonight and Dice K when he doenst have a tummy ache....when they are all on, will not lose 3 in a row. The wild card still count, what Lorenzo says

The Red Sox are going to lose games. I honestly don't believe their rotation is as good as most people think. The problem is that when they lose games, will the Yankees win their's? And if they even do, how much ground can they expect to cover with a 3 or 4 game losing streak from Boston? If that happened at this point in time, the Yankees would still be 10 games out.

Well Curt Schilling shut down the 2nd best team in the American League tonight and I fully expect Beckett to do the same tomorrow, but think what you want.
Yankees shouldnt even worry about Boston, they look like they are playing for ping pong balls right now

The New York Yankees might have the most fans, but they don't have the best fans. So says Angels shortstop Orlando Cabrera.
"They don't appreciate good baseball," he said. "They just appreciate the Yankees beating up on everybody."
The Yankees are on pace to lead the major leagues in attendance for the fifth consecutive season, with fans spoiled by a team that has won 26 World Series championships and has not missed the playoffs since 1993.
But those fans can turn venomous toward opposing players — and even toward their own, when performance is not in line with expectations.
Cabrera played in Boston, another city with a loud and loyal fan base, before joining the Angels. He gives Red Sox and Angels fans high marks for supporting the home team through tough times and applauding great plays by the visiting team.
"In Boston, they admire baseball," Cabrera said. "In Anaheim, those fans are some of the best in baseball. They know you care there. They know you can't do it every day. I appreciate that.
"These people here, they're mean. And they're really mean to the other team."
Cabrera said the hostility in the stands has increased this season, with the Yankees below .500.
"When we came here last year, they were in first place, so it was OK," he said. "Now they're just looking for an excuse."
He is not bothered, he says, by whatever language Yankees fans direct his way.
"When people say [stuff], they only motivate me," he said. "They're bad losers."

Agreed, Yankee fans are some ignorant cocky jackasses only fans worse are the White Sox fans who give new meaning to the word "Idiot"
Anyway, until the Astros hit .500 I shall refer to them as the "Brian Dinan Express" because no matter what they are called they still stink...

Well, if you don't have the balls to take it, don't wear an opposing jersey to the stadium. As long as they aren't physical, I have no problem with people making it uncomfortable for opposing fans in the stadium.
