Bison Wrestling Academy in Baltimore, Maryland

Brandon woke up from a near 24-hour rest in the office of his pro wrestling school. He had fallen out of his desk chair and bashed his head on the paper shredder behind him.
Brandon Bison: Son of a bitch.
He slowly stood up, grabbing hold of the desk to pull himself up. Slowly, he walked out of the room and into the training center. The lights were off, but one ring was lit with a spotlight on it. Brandon screamed out to the person in the ring.
Brandon: Hey! Who’s there?
The man in the ring came to an abrupt halt. Nervously, he looked around and noticed the light shining through the door. The man breathed a sigh of relief as he realized it was Brandon.
Jervis Weaver: Hey, Brandon! I was wondering when you were going to wake up.
Brandon was also relieved when he realized who it was. He walked over to the ring and climbed up the steps.
Brandon: How long have you been here? How long have I been out?
Jervis: I’ve been here almost an entire day; same time you’ve been knocked out. Remember? We came here to train. You said it’d be fine if we closed the school for a week or two so I can prep for my big match coming up.
Jervis had a world championship match for a promotion he had been working in for a while, Pro Wrestling Battlegrounds.
Brandon: Is that right?
Brandon stepped through the ropes and leaned against the turnbuckle.
Brandon: Why don’t you get to work?
Jervis: I’ve been training for hours; I think it’s about time you get to work. Don’t you have a match coming up in WFWF?
Brandon: I’ve given up on that dream for the most part. WFWF looked amazing to me when I wasn’t there. Now that I’ve made it this far it’s not as appealing to me. I can’t do sh*t there with the caliber of wrestler there.
Jervis: You’re telling me that the guy who would watch wrestling for hours on end, dreaming of becoming WFWF Champion, has no desire to even partake in the business anymore? What’s gotten in to you?
Brandon: Reality. That’s all it is. I went from being the big prospect, the man that was supposed to lead the charge into the future, the man that was supposed to take the reigns as the face of WFWF, to being the opener for the old guard I was supposed to replace.
Jervis: Is that really what you think? You believe that that is reality? You’re young, man. You’ve got years ahead of you. Those guys are decomposing while your growing and developing. Everyone goes through ups and downs in their career, and most of the time they get out of it and reach their peak. That’s what’s gonna happen to you, man. You’re gonna get out of this slump and reach levels you never even thought about reaching.
Brandon: I know you don’t want to hear it, but I’m not feeling too good about my future in WFWF. I might be on my last legs in the promotion.
Jervis: You’re not on your way out, you’re speeding up to catch up on the guys in front of you in the race. All you need is a little bit of strategy and preparation. Find yourself in and out of that ring. Don’t let anyone, not even yourself, stop you from reaching what you want. Don’t let anything get in your way.
Brandon: That just might be what’s getting to me, man. All the stuff going on around me. Attempting to run this school and keep my actual career moving forward is finally catching up to me. It was a bad idea.
Jervis: If you feel that way, there are tons of people around you that can help you through. Every person that walks through those doors at the front and steps in the ring in here is willing to help you. They want you to succeed. They want you to represent every single one of them. They want you to be what you want to be. They’re here for you. I’m here for you.
Brandon stood up from the turnbuckle and walked over to Jervis. He held out his hand and Jervis accepted.
Jervis: You need a hug, man.
Jervis pulled Brandon in and squeezed him.
Jervis: You’ve got this, nothing’s gonna get in your way.
Brandon stepped back and bumped fists with Jervis.
Brandon: Let’s get out of here and get this settled.

Brandon and Jervis' Appartment in Baltimore, Maryland
5/20/17
Brandon was running around his apartment while Jervis looked on.
Jervis: What the hell are you doing, Brandon?
Brandon: If I told you, you’d be mad.
Jervis: As long as you aren’t quitting WFWF I’m not gonna get mad at you, man.
Brandon: Trust me, you’ll get upset if I told you.
Jervis: Bro, just yesterday we were on the same page about your future in WFWF. Did you really change your mind that quickly?
Brandon: No. In fact, you were the one who inspired me to do this.
Brandon grabbed his suitcase from the closet.
Jervis: You headed off to a WFWF show or something? I figured you would’ve told me.
Brandon: No. I’m not competing for the WFWF for a while. I told them a few months ago that I’d be on hiatus.
Jervis: Then where the hell are you going?
Brandon: I’m going back home.
Jervis: No, no, no! No way. I am not letting you leave when you’ve got a school to run.
Brandon: That’s the thing. As of right now, the Bison Wrestling Academy is yours.
Brandon placed the keys to the school on the coffee table.
Brandon: Technically it will still be mine, but you’re running it while I’m gone.
Jervis: So you’re just driving off back home? What about everything else you’ve got up here?
Brandon: That’s it. I have nothing else here. This city is home to my dad and my school. One of those things is dead and the other is going to meet the same fate or you’re gonna take these keys and run that bitch while I’m gone.
Brandon walked over to his computer and printed a plane e-ticket. He put the ticket away in a folder and put the folder in his backpack. He grabbed his suitcase and placed all his belongings in it and zipped it up.
Brandon: So, you doing it or what?
Jervis: Have fun, bro.
Jervis picked up the keys to the school and put them in his pocket.
Brandon: Jervis, this is going to revitalize my career. I’m going back to Islamorada and focusing purely on wrestling, this is it for me.
Jervis: If you feel that this is going to turn your career around, I can’t be against it. Good luck man.
The two shook hands with a firm grip.
Jervis: When will I see you again?
Brandon: To be honest, even I don’t know the answer to that question.
Brandon’s phone blinked and vibrated.
Brandon: My Uber’s here.
Jervis: I guess so.
Brandon: Catch you later, Dizzy.
Jervis: Bye, man.

Flight from Baltimore, Maryland to Miami, Florida

Brandon had a pair of headphones on trying to watch a show on the TV in front of him. There was a father in the seat next to him trying to control his child who was kicking, screaming, and bashing his fists on the window. The father was being pushed around by the child, who was screaming about how he didn’t want to be on the plane. He tugged the front of his hoodie over his face in frustration.
Brandon: Jesus Christ…
Brandon stood up and walked to the back of the plane to the bathroom. He walked in and splashed water on his face. Brandon stood there looking in the mirror for nearly five minutes before a passenger knocked on the door.
Brandon: Oh, sh*t.
Brandon opened the door and noticed a kid, about 14 or 15 years old.
Brandon: Sorry about that, man. I must’ve been daydreaming or something.
The kid looked star struck.
Passenger: H-h-hey I know you! Y-y-you’re Brandon Bison from WFWF! You’re me and my brother’s favorite wrestler.
Brandon: No way.
Passenger: No I’m not lying. We think you’re awesome. I try to defend you when me and my friends talk about wrestling. They say bad things about you, but I think you’re amazing! I love the Bison Bomb and your awesome matches!
Brandon: Is that true?
Passenger: Dude, of course! You’ve done so much! What happened to you, though? I haven’t seen you in months.
Brandon: I’m taking a little break. I figured that’s what I need to get back on the right track, you know?
Passenger: Aww, well I hope I see you on TV soon. Can you come see my brother? It’ll be awesome if you do. My name’s Chris, by the way.
Brandon: Sure, Chris. Anything for a fan.
Brandon followed the boy down the aisle and was led right back to his seat. The man was still fighting with his son, trying to hold his arms and legs down.
Brandon: This is your family?
Chris: Yeah, this is my dad and my brother Charlie.
Brandon: I’ve been sitting here with them the whole time!
Chris: And they didn’t tell me? Dad, Charlie, look!
The boy looked over his dad’s shoulders and saw Brandon. His eyes lit up and he stopped moving.
Charlie: Dad! Dad, that’s Brandon Bison!
Brandon stood there in awe. The children’s dad looked at Brandon as well. He was shocked.
Chris and Charlie’s Father: Hey, you're right Christopher! It is Brandon Bison! How did we not see you there? Must’ve been really distracted. The name’s Charles, by the way, it’s nice to meet you.
Brandon: How you doing, man?
Charles: You’ve been here. It’s been the same thing since we got on the flight.
Charlie: Dad! Dad! Can Brandon Bison sign my cap?!
Charlie pulled up a backpack and took out a cap with the WFWF logo on it.
Charles: Only if you ask him politely.
Charlie: Mr. Bison can you please sign my hat?
Charles held out the hat and a sharpie and Brandon signed it slowly, still amazed at the fact that people were actually huge fans of his.
Charlie: Thank you!
Brandon: No, thank you. All you guys are awesome, thank you for everything. It's great knowing I've got such passionate fans.
Brandon and Charles talked for nearly an hour before the plane touched down and they got off. Charles and his sons met Brandon outside after they retrieved their bags and belongings.
Brandon: Hey man, I want to give you my phone number in case these guys want to chat it up with me. Is that all right with you?
Charles: Not at all, Brandon. You’re a great kid and I’d love for them to have a role model like you.
The two exchanged phone numbers and goodbyes.
Brandon: You two are awesome. I’ve got a cab to catch, but this won’t be the last time I see you guys.
Charlie and Chris: Thank you! Bye!
Brandon looked back and waved as he was walked away.

Brandon stepped out of the cab and looked at the front of the house.
Brandon: It’s good to be back.
Brandon grabbed his stuff and walked into the house.
Damn, I am so glad I did this.
He meandered through the premises, checking up on all the things he’s been away from for so long. He went through the training room, the bedrooms, and the rest of the house before dropping down on the living room couch face first.
Why did I ever leave?
…
6/21/17
Brandon spent hours touching up the training room. This was going to be his home for a long time, so he made sure it was as comfortable as possible. He set up a table in the corner of the room, on that table he placed his sewing machine. On the opposite side of the room was the workout equipment. His treadmill, weights, and bike were all in the one corner of the room. In the center of the ring was the center of his universe, the squared circle.
Brandon exited the training room and went to his bathroom. He swiped the shaver off the vanity and turned it on. Brandon stared at himself in the mirror.
I hope this works. I hope this takes me to the levels I am supposed to reach. I hope I can make my dream happen. I hope I can reach the top of the ladder.
Brandon shaved off all his facial hair in a matter of minutes. This was the first time he had been clean shaven since high school. He stood there looking at himself until he heard his phone ringing and went to check on it. He quickly glanced and noticed it was Jervis, but he didn’t bother to pick it up. Instead, he began training.
Brandon was in the training room for hours, if he wasn’t in the ring practicing, he was watching matches on the TV he had installed in the room. If he wasn’t doing that, he was reading up, learning everything he could about the sport he loved.
The phone buzzed again. Brandon let it go to voicemail and listened to it.
Charles: Yeah, Brandon, I was just calling to say that I’m so thankful for how awesome you were for my sons on the plane. It was great of you to talk with the guys and I just wanted to say it again. I wish you the best of luck in everything you do and I hope you get back on your feet and start killing it in WFWF.

Brandon: Years of struggle and turmoil would have an effect on me, too. I’ve gone through times and perhaps they weren’t as traumatizing as yours, but I can understand your stresses.
The Sickest Man in the Business… You are a product of the Sickest Man in the Business. That alone should send shivers down a person’s spine. You take that to another level, though. You turned on the man that trained you in a way that was as violent as he would have loved.
You don’t scare me, Tyler. I’ve faced worse challenges in my life than a man that looks more like a kid that spent his entire allowance on Blackcraft Cult clothing than a pro wrestler. The façade you put on to look scarier than you actually are… it’s not going to get to me. I’m not one of your backyard wrestling friends. I’m not going to cower back and shake in my boots at the sight of you across from me in the ring, no matter how terrible your past made you.
It’s sad, truly. It’s sad what happened to your family. I’m sincerely sorry in that regard, but this is WFWF and I don’t care about your family when I step in that ring. I care about my family, my well-being, my future.
Tyler Draven you’re going to walk into WFWF, you’re going to look around, breathe in the atmosphere, soak in the lights, and absorb the aura, and as soon as you’re done with that I’m going to kick your teeth in and send you on your way back to Los Angeles.

I’d love to give you the opportunity to get big in WFWF, but the fact of the matter is that this place is dog eat dog, and to get ahead you have to do or die, and I’m not dying. Not when I know now that I have people that look up to me. There are actually kids out there that look at me and want to do what I do because I do it. That gives me a feeling that I just can't explain. That's why I'm taking you out at New Day Rising.
