Elite only, cut down on a duplicate of a figure - however that is tough because different versions have their pros and cons. Get a larger display room. I am running out fo room and I have a ton of space.

Going broke seems to be helping me so far.

I cut down A lot in the last 2+ years. Now I avoid getting Multiple of the same person (Cena, Roman, Dean ect) and now I just stick to First timers and occasional Exclusive. If I kept up my pace from day 1 in 2010 I'd need 3 rooms for my collection LOL

I basically only buy Rollins, Jericho or Finn now. With the odd elite thrown in here and there. I trim it every now and then as i only havw space for around 30

I like to think I'm less frivolous now. But I'm probably not.

I really only get the ones I want, which are mainly Elites. First-time in the line stuff for certain Basics as well.

I only buy basics if I doubt they'll make an elite or don't care to get an elite version of a wrestler

I'm planning on having a figure fed, and have been planning to do so since 2013. I'm going insanely in depth with storylines and archs to the point I've literally created a big alternate universe by accident. So this is what I've been doing to help cut down on stupid purchases:
1. I have seasons 1-4 basically sketched out, which means I know my main events for Wrestlemania and the players involved. This trickles down to each of my championship divisions. Having a great idea of the figures I *need* to make this happen helps immensely. Then I can focus on attires. For instance, Seth Rollins is in The Shield seasons 1 and half of 2, so I need his Shield gear. He later joins my version of The Four Horsemen, which leads into his Black & Gold 2015 attire. He later captures the IC title, and I'd like him to have his White Summerslam attire for that entire title run. Rollins then gets a World title push where I will switch back to his Black/Gold and save his Black/Grey for big matches as World champion. That's a four season arch where I know what figures I want. Also should note I only buy multiple attires for my key characters.
2. Writing out my divisions/roster helps, too. Tag teams, Cruiserweights, mid-carders, women, managers, etc... After I get a big list of potential bodies, I try to make storylines for them. The ones I can't make anything up for, I eventually end up cutting from my list of figs to hunt down.
3. By the time I get to purchasing or figure hunting, I have a very great idea of who I'm looking for, and how badly they're needed in my universe. Recent example is MVP. Creatively, he's essential to my fed, so I was willing to buy him loose with all the accessories for $50 without blinking. Same deal with Low Ki's TNA figure, the RAW World Tag Team titles (repurposed as my World Cruiserweight Tag Belts), and other pricey items on eBay. When I go into Wal-Mart or Target looking for figs, I have a priority list in mind. I'm a big fan of Harlem Heat, but I don't need them in my fed, so I'm not going to impulse buy their Elites "just because". I'm looking for an essential cog to my Cruiserweight division like Finn Balor or Sami Zayn. If I run into a Sasha Banks and an Elite Rusev, I'll get Sasha Banks because she's a basic (and cheaper) and look for a manager type like Heyman on the rack to stretch my dollar -- even if I do need Rusev as well.
4. For the figs I don't own yet still on my list, waiting around tends to yield good results. I'm not jumping head first into a debut Kevin Owens elite that has a ton of issues, for example. I can wait around and take my pick of what I think is the definitive KO for his character in my universe after Mattel irons out the problems. I can also Frankenstein parts from fodder on ebay to make my own custom versions with better headscans etc. I keep a list of the series numbers with notes on part swaps with series numbers as well. Evernote saves my butt with this lol.
These figures aren't cheap, so I'm not too keen on ending up with a few "meh" ones I just use for display. Every figure I buy is getting used for a purpose in play and I'm going to try to do so in the most efficient manner I can. Before I started this, I was just buying whatever figures I liked here and there. I remember one weekend I just blew maybe $150 on figs and they were all impulses lol.
