Rebuilding the roster has been the biggest bitch of all, because there's a severe lack of mid-card guys and bigger guys. Just to address some of the things you mentioned.. - Claudio was only a couple of months in but had been touring Europe. He's probably my most unrealistic of picks but, hey-ho. I feel as though he would fit in this era. - Kazuhiro is Kaz Hayashi. - Anderson hadn't debuted no, but was in training. WCW can still sign him up. - Hoyt and Mesias, again, lack of bigger guys in 2001! - From what I've heard, Super Crazy, RVD and Super Dragon were all signed up, whereas guys like York, Matthews, Daniels, Corino and Cash were all widely known to have signed. I tried to add some realism at least! Still think it's waaaaay too early for Claudio and Machine Gun, especially a Machine Gun that wasn't anywhere near finished training. WCW did some silly sh-t when it came to signing wrestling school students, but I don't think they'd sign a guy who wasn't finished training. Yeah, it dawned on me who Kazuhiro was about five seconds after I replied. Mesias isn't a bigger guy, though. He's like 6'1 and was working more of a cruiserweight style around this time. He didn't really evolve into a heavyweight worker for a couple of years. Bob Sapp was at the Power Plant around that time, he would be a pretty good pick for a big heel. Abyss was working around this point too, could have easily brought him in as Prince Justice. There's also guys like Bison Smith who you could build up as being a big deal. Doesn't have the height (I think he's the same height as Mesias) but he's much bulkier than Mesias. Scott Norton was still capable at this point, as was Vader and the latter had more than enough name value to make him worth the time in 2001. Rasche Brown is another relatively big guy you could bring in as well. As far as midcard guys go - there were a ton of ECW guys that would fill the midcard well. Tommy Dreamer, CW Anderson, Justin Credible (though by this point he was probably headed for the WWF), Jerry Lynn, Danny Doring, Roadkill and Chris Chetti just off the top of my head. If you wanted bigger dudes you could also go with Balls and Axl. I wasn't criticizing dudes like Corino, Kid Kash, York, Matthews, Daniels, etc. They're guys that actually had deals or were in the process of getting deals before WCW got bought out. All that said, give Steiner his World Title back and push Low Ki. I never said I'd revealed the full roster. Who knows who'll show up later on. As for Bob Sapp, I couldn't stomach the screams.

More WCW details revealed at AOL Expo. March 29, 2001 | New York City, NY | At an event hosted today in connection with AOL, WCW President Eric Bischoff was on-hand to reveal more details on the relaunch of WCW. Featuring at the expo. was a giant 20ft poster for the upcoming "Big Bang" pay-per-view event.
Bischoff announced that the event will feature a match to determine a brand new WCW World Heavyweight Champion, and will showcase several old favourites as well as brand-new, exciting talent.
A promotional "brochure" was handed out to attendees and contained a roster that has since been updated to the WCW website. It is noted that this is not a final roster. There is also a pay-per-view schedule, naming three brand-new events - "Redemption", "Undeniable", and "Greed".

Always strange when someone redoes a fed and wants to "save" WCW but then guts a ton of the good stuff that WCW had going on for a bunch of ROH and ECW leftovers. Your diary of course.
I like the poster.

The Big Bang06/05/2001 | Las Vegas, NV @ Thomas & Mack Center
A montage begins our show featuring the greats throughout the years and the biggest moments they brought us in World Championship Wrestling. The voice-over ushers in a new era, naming Booker T, Scott Steiner, Jeff Jarrett and Bill Goldberg as the future. And it all starts tonight, with a “Big Bang”!
Eric Bischoff opens the show in the ring, the fans excited by the possibilities tied to tonight’s event. Bischoff thanks the fans for coming out and for breathing new life in to WCW when it needed it most. He promises something different, more vibrant and exciting then the fans have seen in previous years. “It’s purely about substance, in the ring and on your television screens”, adds Bischoff. Tonight, we’ll see plenty of fresh new talent, and we will crown a new WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Following this match, going forward all decisions on WCW belts will be made by the brand new “Championship Committee”. With their consultation, Bischoff has set-out the plan for this evening. Because Scott Steiner technically didn’t lose the title at SuperBrawl Revenge he will automatically be a participant in the match. However, later tonight there will be a Triple-Tag-Team match in which the winners will be added to the main event to battle it out with Steiner! Booker T and Jeff Jarrett team to face Goldberg and Sting, and Sid Vicious and Diamond Dallas Page! Bischoff once again thanks the fans and tells them to enjoy the show!
We skip to our lead announcer Tony Schiavone alongside Scott Hudson, who hype tonight’s title picture, featuring some huge names, before running down some other matches for tonight. Rey and Kidman will take on Totally Buffed, Lance Storm goes up against Rob Van Dam, and you’ll see Apollo versus Mike Awesome!
Jamie Knoble defeats Elix Skipper, Super Crazy, Yoshihiro Tajiri, Cash, Shane Helms, AJ Styles, Low Ki, Volador Jr., Dragon Kid, Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, Brian Kendrick and Naruki Doi in a Cruiserweight Open Gauntlet. Knoble eliminates Helms and Tajiri before lastly pinning Doi with a Double Underhook Powerbomb from the second-rope. Very good reception from the crowd for this one.
“Mean” Gene Okerlund shows up on the TurnerTron ready to interview his guest, Jeff Jarrett! Gene questions Jarrett on his frame of mind tonight and asks how confident he is of leaving Las Vegas with the WCW World Heavyweight title. Jarrett says the tag-team match is a formality, and he’ll put Scott Steiner down with the Stroke, and wipe-out Booker T with his “acoustic equaliser”. Expect Double J to leave tonight your new champion!
Monty Brown defeats Rick Steiner with the Pounce. Brown is an impressive 270lbs tank, and a former linebacker for the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots. He calls himself “The Alpha Male” and he does a lot to back up his claim here, knocking-off the former U.S Heavyweight Champion and WCW mainstay, Rick Steiner. Brown finishes the match with his signature move, the “Pounce”, irish-whipping his opponent before hitting a devastating shoulder-tackle.
The video-feed cuts to the parking-lot where a limo has pulled in. Out steps Midajah, followed by “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner. He’s guaranteed a title shot tonight, but against who?
Schiavone and Hudson are discussing the evening so far when they’re joined by a familiar face - Cyrus the Virus! He runs down Schiavone, Hudson, and everyone connected with the company, especially those paying at home. Cyrus says he will introduce “ratings” to the company and a voice that fans will pay to hear. He joins Schiavone and Hudson at the announcer’s desk, much to their displeasure.
Rey Mysterio Jr. and Billy Kidman defeat Totally Buffed (Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell) when Kidman nailed Luger with the Shooting Star Press. What a shocker! This one lasts just 21-seconds, with Bagwell not even getting in on the action! Mysterio escapes a quick attempt at the Torture Rack before connecting with a stiff roundhouse kick to Luger that sends him to the mat. Sensing an opportunity, Mysterio tags in Kidman who immediately climbs up-top and performs a majestic Shooting Star Press to pin Luger. The fans pop big, and Luger looks pissed!
The announcers discuss what’s just unfolded. It seems Mysterio and Kidman are out to make a major statement for themselves in the new WCW! Up next, we have that huge tag-team match, with the winners advancing to a Triple-Threat later tonight with Scott Steiner, the winner emerging as the new WCW World Heavyweight Champion.
A video package covers many of the great WCW World Champions of the past including Ric Flair, Sting, Vader, Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan, Goldberg, and the final champion Scott Steiner.
Goldberg and Sting defeat Sid Vicious and Diamond Dallas Page, and Jeff Jarrett and Booker T in a Triple-Tag Team Match when Goldberg pinned Booker T with the Jackhammer. Surprisingly good quality for this match. Jarrett and Booker seem to be the favourites here but it doesn’t quite work out. Sting flies from the top turnbuckle to the outside onto Sid and Page, taking them all out of the match. Jarrett keeps pushing Booker and testing his patience, tagging himself in and talking trash about his performance. Finally, Booker snaps and kicks his teeth down his throat! However, he doesn’t see Goldberg stalking him and falls victim to a Spear. It’s Jackhammer time! 1-2-3, and it’s all over. It’ll be Scott Steiner vs. Goldberg vs. Sting for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship later tonight! We get an uncomfortable stare-down between Sting and Goldberg to end the segment. Interesting to note there were a few “We want Flair” chants that broke out.
The announcers discuss what’s just unfolded and what we can expect in tonight’s title match. Schiavone then hypes the return of Nitro tomorrow night at 8PM on TNT. You’ll get more WCW action featuring stars featured tonight and even more new stars! Plus, more information on WCW’s next pay-per-view event, “Greed”, live on June 10 from Houston.
Backstage, we see an angry Eric Bischoff finishing a phone call. “I don’t care, remove him! I want him out of the building now!” Who is Bischoff referring to?
Still to come graphics.. Rob Van Dam vs. Lance Storm, plus Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire against a new team in WCW, Christian York and Joey Matthews.
Apollo defeats Mike Awesome with a Full-Nelson Slam. A Puerto Rico native, 260lbs Apollo looks a tough opponent to beat. Even Mike Awesome would tell you so! Not a long match, lots of brawling between these two big-guys. Apollo escapes the Awesome Bomb and nails a Full-Nelson Slam to pin the former ECW Heavyweight Champion.
We cut to backstage, where Sting is in the locker room recuperating after the victory alongside Goldberg in the Triple-Tag Team Match. He is approached by “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, who gets a nice reaction! Dusty congratulates Sting on reaching the main event and the chance to challenge for the WCW World title. As a former champion, Dusty says he knows when he sees a fellow champion and Sting is the very embodiment of WCW. He must remember back to the night when he pinned Ric Flair to become World Heavyweight Champion 11 years ago, and channel that energy into becoming champion tonight.
Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire defeated Christian York and Joey Matthews with a Double Superkick to York. A good showing from the newbies especially when you consider size/experience compared to Palumbo and O’Haire. But it’s business as usual for the former World Tag Team Champions, isolating York and putting him away decisively.
We’re back with “Mean” Gene and this time his guest is the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Scott Steiner. Gene asks Steiner for his thoughts on tonight’s title match. Steiner flips and says that Eric Bischoff is a moron and made the biggest mistake of his life by taking the WCW World title away from him three months ago and that he shouldn’t have to fight for it. Tonight, Steiner will show why he is the true World Champion!
Rob Van Dam defeats Lance Storm (with Mike Awesome) via disqualification when Steve Corino hit Van Dam with a Superkick. Fast-paced, back-and-forth, and the fans love it! RVD impresses on his debut against Storm, with Schiavone noting that both should be firm title contenders to the U.S belt. Awesome attempts to interfere with a steel chair but has it kicked straight back into his face! With Storm down it’s time to wrap this one up with a Split-Legged Moonsault. Mid-move, he’s kicked straight in the jaw by Steve Corino! The referee calls for the bell but Van Dam is out-cold. Corino stands on the apron with a sick smile on his face as Schiavone questions why Corino has done this. Cyrus, obviously, is ecstatic.
Security are seen at the backstage entrance to the arena. Eric Bischoff has arrived at the open doorway, calling out to someone on the outside. “Stay out of my arena you parasite!” Bischoff threatens to have this person arrested if they come back, before instructing security to keep a tight guard on the building.
A video package airs. The Yakuza are coming to WCW.
We’re back to the announce team discussing the evening so far and once again hyping Nitro. As revealed by Eric Bischoff at the start of the show, a Championship Committee will rule on WCW title affairs, and they have done. Starting tomorrow night on Nitro, following the success of the opening contest at The Big Bang, will be a tournament to crown a new WCW Cruiserweight Champion.
A graphic hypes our upcoming WCW World Heavyweight Championship Match. Scott Steiner faces Goldberg and Sting, who earned their way into the match earlier this evening.
We cross over to “Mean” Gene with his final guest of the evening, Goldberg! Gene asks how Goldberg feels having pinned Booker T to get here, and how he sees the match panning out. Goldberg says that quite simply, whether he has to break Steiner or crush Sting, he will be World Champion for the second time at the end of the night.
Goldberg defeats Scott Steiner (with Midajah) and Sting in a Triple-Threat Match with a Jackhammer to Steiner to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. This one gets around 12 minutes, not too long for a main event title match. Steiner takes advantage and Powerbombs Goldberg through the announce table! With Goldberg seemingly out of the match, Steiner and Sting battle it out, with the Stinger no doubt relying on Dusty Rhodes advice from earlier on. However, he is overpowered, and finds himself in the Steiner Recliner. He holds on, resisting giving-up, and verging on blacking out. Sting’s resistance gives Goldberg time to make a miraculous recovery. He nails a huge Spear on Steiner while he still has the hold locked-on Sting! He calls for the Jackhammer, and with Steiner a sitting duck, lifts him to the roar of the crowd and drops him with tremendous force. It’s all over! Goldberg is the champion!
Eric Bischoff makes his way out to the ring to present the WCW World title belt to Goldberg. He raises the champion’s arm in victory and parades him to each side of the crowd, each giving a resounding cheer in approval. Bischoff gives him the ring out of respect and makes his way up the ramp. However, the crowd is stunned when Goldberg is cut-down by Rhino! A massive Gore almost tears Goldberg in-half. Schiavone near enough craps himself as Paul Heyman follows Rhino out of the crowd, laughing manically as his Man Beast stands over Bischoff’s champion. Bischoff is pissed. Could this be who he tried to remove from the arena?
The Big Bang concludes with what can only be described as the dawn of a new era in WCW. Rhino and Paul Heyman have arrived, and they’ve targeted World Champion Goldberg! We’ll see you tomorrow night on Nitro!

- Loving seeing the cruiserweight division grow. I can tell this is gonna be massive already. - Monty Brown? YES!! Please push him to the moon. - I love the way you set up the triple-threat match. That's absolutely brilliant. - I feel like Palumbo and O'Haire would be an excellent tag team in this era. Hope they are. - Holy crap. RVD and Steve Corino in WCW? I'm loving this diary already. I hope Corino and RVD have a wicked feud. - Excited to see who the Yakuza are. - Glad that Goldberg won, even though I absolutely love Steiner. He was a monster in WCW, hope to see that continue. - RHINO!?!??!?!?!?!!? DAAAAYUMMMMM I'm fired up for this diary. Super pumped to see what you do with it.

I thought the Big Bsng was an interesting show. I've always enjoyed Monty Brown and think he could be a valuable face for WCW moving forward. Knoble winning is a great choice, I just hope Tajiri is used to his fullest as he could have been a great character at the time. I don't like Apollo. An interesting victory for Rey and Kidman. Goldberg winning the strap is exactly what needed to happen and should have been champion more than once. Rhino coming in with Heyman is awesome. A feud between Rhino and Goldberg will need to see Rhino get over as a threat to Goldberg. I'm all for new, refreshing ideas. Solid debut.

wow, the PPV was very awesome man. I think all the matches were pretty great honestly. I'm glad all the ECW stars are coming to World Championship Wrestling like Rob Van Dam and Rhino. I wonder who else is going to join them. But a Goldberg vs Rhino match at WCW is probably great for business, Rhino's got the gore and Goldberg's got the spear. Which finishing move is dangerous. I really like Goldberg as the WCW World Heavyweight Champion as well. Hope you keep up with this diary man. Now the only thing remains is that Paul Heyman is in WCW. But wait a second he should be commentating the WWF at this year. Ohhh well it's needed.
Note: Check out my WWF 1994 Diary. I've improved a lot with it as well.

"Both Lex Luger and Sid Vicious have quit World Championship Wrestling following The Big Bang pay-per-view, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Luger is unhappy that he was made to job to Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman in a squash match and was very vocal backstage that he was above that sort of "treatment". Eric Bischoff tried explaining that it was the right thing to do but that Luger was free to leave the company if he wished. Luger has not shown up for Nitro and it's thought he is now done with the company.
Sid has also quit under similar circumstances. According to our sources the former World Champion fears he may be used in the same way down the line, and having made no impact in the Triple-Tag Team match last night, it appears WCW will not be going in the direction that favours him.
As we understand it, Paul Heyman and Rhino are backstage at Nitro tonight and will feature in the show. Reports that Ric Flair is in attendance remain unconfirmed."
