Hey guys so I decided to film my very first YouTube video, and to anyone on here who uploads YouTube videos like it's nothing are receiving a silent clap as you read this, because it's very freaking hard for me. I thought it was as simple as point, shoot, upload and watch, but no, it is way more complex than that. The part I'm having the most trouble with is upload times. My video is filmed in 3 parts (not by choice) and I'm still uploading part 1. I started at 12 A.M. Eastern time and as of now, 12:09 P.M. Eastern time, it's only at 51%. The video is 4:58 long and 1.31 GB. Is this normal? Is there a way to make it faster? The camera I used films all movies in MOV format. I YouTubed faster ways to upload but they all seem to promote different programs to download and I never feel comfortable with that but if one of you guys use one let me know. I maybe way off with that comment so any tips or anything will be appreciated. I have 2 more videos with times of 1:54 and 7:52. And one is 508 MB and 1.15 GB. At this rate I will still be uploading this weekend. I need to have them all uploaded in 5 hours though because as soon as I hit the upload button it lags my nephews Xbox live and he freezes in place. Like he plays battlefield and he can be running around the map but as soon as I hit upload he freezes in place and can only spin around but not move. Im on a Windows XP computer but my girlfriend brought her Windows 7 labtop if that info helps at all. The 12pm to now download is on the labtop. Any help will be appreciated because I'm way in over my head on this one.

No, that is not normal at all. I regularly upload videos around 1GB-2GB in size and an hour in length, and they only take a couple of hours to upload. I think the problem is probably the MOV format. I recommend a program called Format Factory to convert your files, and see if that helps. Another issue may be your internet speed.
Also, when you say "4:58", does that mean 4 minutes and 58 seconds or 4 hours and 58 minutes?

Thank you for the fast reply! I'm on a mobile device so I haven't found the option for karma but if it's still here when I get on a computer +1 for you dude.
It means 4 minutes and 58 seconds. So there is no way my 5 minute video could be a GB. Could the frame width and height play a factor? The camera I used automatically makes them 1280 width and 720 height, and that's for all videos. I downloaded a video converter program Tuesday that converted it, changed the size, and had a couple of other features on it like bitrate. It ruined the quality of the video you couldn't read anything on it. I'm going to look up the program you recommended.

Nah, the karma system was removed a while ago.
Yes, the frame width and height probably does play a factor. Seeing as it is 1280 x 720, that makes it HD, and HD files are really big in comparison to their length. I'd advise you to download Format Factory and convert the files to AVI or MP4, and half the size to make it 640 x 360. Then try it and see how it goes.

Okay I am downloading it now. The only problem I might run into is I couldn't get the videos on my computer. I did a test run Tuesday and got that one on my computer. Yesterday it filmed in 3 parts but I could only put one of them onto my computer. The got onto my girlfriends labtop just fine. I'm not sure how she will feel about me downloading the program onto her labtop but I am on it now on my computer. Do you know an easy way to get them to mine? She tried uploading them onto photobucket but they were to big.

Have you got a USB stick or external USB hard drive?

I'm not sure I'm willing to bet someone in my house has one. I do have to wait for them to get home. Assuming they do I just download the videos onto it then upload them to my computer? So I finished the download for format factory and I'm converting the one video that made it on my computer. It didn't give an option to change the size so do I do that manually in the program or do I do it outside of the program?
I just want to say thank you so much for helping me.

When you add the files to convert, before you click "OK", there is a button labelled "Output Setting". One of the boxes is labelled "Video Size". Simply type your preferred size into that. No problem, happy to help out.

Oh my, you sir are a genius. I went ahead and uploaded the second video without changing the size but it still uploaded within 25 minutes. The third one, which was over a GB, was reduced to 183 MB with the size reduction and changing the format. It didn't change the quality at all! I'm uploading it now and it only has 39 minutes left give or take. Its at 40%. I knew coming to wfigs would help my problem and you knocked a home run out of the park. Uploading videos wouldn't be possible for me if it wasn't for you. Again thank you so much and God bless you sir.
