Hey guys....so the other day I was browsing Mattelshop and found they had the Flex Force High Flyin' Playset on sale for under $15.00. I'm a sucker for cool wrestling figure playset stuff and I was curious as to how good or bad this set really was. I don't collect Flex Force (besides Punk) so that wasn't going to sway me and I don't play with my figures, I just like stuff for displaying & taking pictures.
Decided to take a shot and ordered it. It came in yesterday and I got it all together so I thought I'd do a little review.
After unboxing you see that everything is laid out nice and clean...very easy to assemble and organize. My only real complaint with what you get is that there is only one ring apron sticker, seems kind of cheap to me. Especially since this thing retailed for almost $50 in stores. Even just some plain WWE logos would have been nice for the other sides.
Took me about 10-15 minutes to assemble everything. Not bad, and the instructions were very easy to follow. This is a perfect "Christmas morning" gift for kids because you could set it up really quick and it looks cool all together.
The main reason I was interested in this was for the stage piece. I've been wanting a cool display to take figure pictures on...and I'm tired of waiting for the Kmart RAW stage to go on clearance. The stage itself has 7 pieces total: Ramp, 2 scaffold poles, screen frame, 2 screen pieces and top piece for figures to be "launched" from.
The overall setup together is about 18" tall. Pretty cool looking and while not in scale, provides a nice platform for any figure to stand on. The top plastic piece has spaces for the feet of a figure, the idea is that you can "launch" any flex force off it that has the jumping ability. The piece can also be transferred to a ringpost.
The stage was easy to put together. Snap the scaffold poles into the ramp, screen frame snaps onto those (from the back) and the frame pieces fit in easily. They seem pretty sturdy even though they are supposed to "break" when you launch a figure into them. However the screen could be easily covered with printouts.
The ring is your standard spring ring. As sturdy as it can be, and not in any kind of scale. I really like how tight the ropes are though and the overall look is appealing. Once again, incredibly easy to assemble. Snap the 4 posts in and stretch the ropes to each post, after putting a small WWE logo sticker on each turnbuckle spot.
Kind of funny that a figure standing outside is almost as tall as the ring! Big Show actually is taller than it!
The launcher is easy to assemble, just a couple of parts to snap together and is incredibly sturdy. I'm sure kids would have a ball playing with this, you can launch anything that will fit in the claw.
The extra accessories you get are cool. A breakable table, breakable ladder & a chair.
The chair is your standard Mattel "steel" chair. Same one you'd get in any other set.
The table has a nice surface finish, and breaks in the middle. It's actually pretty sturdy when put together as well so you can use it multiple ways.
When it folds up the legs jut out still so laying it completely flat on the ground is out of the question, but who would do that anyway?
Table breaks not right across the middle like in fantasy world, but jagged diagonally...like a real table would
The ladder is constructed to be able to bend & break for maximum effect.
The ladder has multiple ponts of articulation....or breaking points. 4 total and the top actually separates easily so you can use both sides as individual parts
The ladder is taller than the E20 Cena ladder, but shorter than the E16 Slater ladder
Buying the ladder for sturdiness is out of the question, it will stand easily on it's own but snaps just as easy. You're not using this to stand a figure on.
Punk was tired of me reviewing this thing so I had to take care of business
I noticed it's not on sale anymore but my suggestion to anyone is that if you can get this set for a reasonable price DO IT. It's a simple, but fun set with a perfect variety of accessories that a kid or an adult will find a way to enjoy.
Hop you guys liked the review. Comments/Thoughts always appreciated
