This is what he said...
"Dad - They don't sell WWE figures at Target!"
We went in tonight, excited, hoping to find some new figures (Honky Tonk Man for me).... only to find a row full of empty pegs, again.
He's right, I don't think they've ever had any WWE figures when he's been with me.
Burned by Target, yet again. Won't be shopping there again, for a while...

Smart kid. This is why I don't even bother with Target anymore.

I hate Target. Both of the stores in my city are out of the way from anything else I stop at. Every once in a while I think "I'll check them out again. I bet they'll finally have something." Nope. Just a waste of my time and gas to ever go to Target. The only things I've ever found there that I wanted were B23 Kane and Santino.

I keep hoping because that's where I found my Antonio Cesaro - but that day, I just happened to ben in that area (it's out of the way) and went in right when they opened (I had to work later that day). Normally, I'm working at that time and can never go in then.
But if they only have figures for a few hours after they put them out, which is probably once a week at most, it's just not worth checking.

I found the Kane/ Daniel Bryan 2 pack at Target this week on sale for $14.99 and it was literally the first time in the last 10 visits there that I've found anything at all worth buying.....or anything on the shelf for that matter

I would like to know just what is going on with Target and the Mattel WWE line. All the stores are pretty crummy near me, but Target is atrocious. Are they just waiting until their Basic figure sale is over to actually stock Basic figures?

Target makes no sense to me. Why would you not put product out? Seems kinda backwards.

I've filmed four figure hunting videos at Target and everytime I've went, nothing has been there. Really been a couple disappointing months around town. I actually had to buy the Prime Time Players from Ringside because I got so frustrated I couldn't find them locally.
The blame can be placed three ways:
Mattel- Needs a larger selection of figures per set and increased quantities of figures per case. There's no excuse for empty pegs. Cutting BS gimmick toys like Brawlin Buddies, Flex Force, Power Slammers and Rumblers could greatly increase the space needed to put more Basics or Elites into a set.
Scalpers- B27 Ryback came three per case and the idiots around here bought all of them. I was lucky I found one. That really shouldn't have been that hard to find but the scalpers made it that way.
The Stores- They need to buy more product from Mattel. Plain and simple. They have to say "We got burned with Power Slammers. We don't want to carry them anymore." If enough stores say that, Mattel will be forced to cancel the line, which makes more room for Elites/Basics. Their distribution needs to be better as well. No excuses.
What I would do with the Elite line is make jobber figures easier to find. Put it in the fans hands. Make people search for the good guys. If Cena, Mysterio, Barrett, Miz, Big Show, HHH, Orton and Brodus Clay are harder to find it makes the figure hunt better for people. The Elite line is the collectors line, isn't it? Then have a monthly poll on WWE.com asking the fans "Who do you want to see in E--?" And then have like 30 wrestlers to choose from. Let the basic line be for the kids. If they let the collectors decide the Elites, then WWE and Mattel can rape the shelves with all the Basic Cena/Orton/Mysterios they want. It's really not that hard.
(inb4 TL;DR)

Unfortunately, it's not as easy as saying if they cancel Power Slammers then they'll have more room for Basics and Elites. Most likely, they would put another line of product that has no shelf space in the store in its space instead of more WWE product. Plus, Mattel is a company that makes toys for kids. Always has been, always will be. I hate Power Slammers as much as the next guy, but it's the way it is. If it's not Power Slammers or Flex Force, then it will be some other gimmicky line. Jakks did they same thing. Look how many gimmicky kids lines they had that only lasted one or two sets before they moved on to the next one.

When it comes to selection, it depends on the store. The closet Target had literally little to no Basic or Elite figures last time I went, only the Flex-Force 2-packs and possibly some Battle Packs. Another Target I went to had E20 Punk and Rhodes with Basic 25. I even found PTP in a Target for $14.99, but I already had them.Last time I bought a figure from Target was Basic 23 Hunico back in November. When the WWE Mattel line started, I recall getting a good chunk of the early figures from Target, nowadays there are some Target with a decent selection, but not enough for me to buy anything.

Between my brother and I, we only seem to find one figure at a time during every visit to Target. One week it was E20 Cody. The next week it was E18 Rey. Last week it was the PTP by themselves. Part of me wants to find e21 at Target like others have, but part of me wants to wait it out until they hit Amazon for 16.

Targets in my area are like...
miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, hit (barely just somebody's leftovers) miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss

And when they do get figs, they're already picked over. Unless Scalpasaurus just left droppings at the CS desk, which is bleakly, more realistic.

Most Targets generally only receive one case pack of Elite figures per series (unless it's Holiday/Toy Season) .. which sucks, I know.
So if by chances you see a certain series on the pegs (for example, say you see an Elite 20 Cody Rhodes by it's lonesome) -- that means that particular store has already received it's case pack for that series, and you should check other Target stores in the area for that series if you're interested. To my knowledge/experience, it's highly unlikely stores will receive more than one case per elite series. Basics may be a little different, maybe two or three per series at the most.

I love the logic of retailers like Target
"Lets put our WWE figures on sale for 2 MONTHS so we can clear out the stock" ::puts figures on sale:: ::figures sell out:: ::no re-stock, ever::
"well that's good, we got rid of those damn Cena's!"
