A few months ago, I accidentally broke the screen on my laptop. I've been using my TV as an external monitor ever since, and haven't had any serious problems up until now. I turned on my computer earlier tonight to find that Windows wouldn't start. I can't make out much on the broken screen, but I know it goes to "Startup Repair".
Would anybody happen to know if it's possible to force VGA output while it's booting up? It normally only goes to VGA when an OS is loaded. Luckily I installed Ubuntu a few weeks ago, so I can still use my PC under that OS, but I have so many files, programs, and games under Windows that I need to be able to retrieve and use. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

a "FN" (Function) key should be on your keyboard, then you just have to press one of the "F" keys and it'll switch monitors.
